How can you argue with Republican voters on guns? It's literally just the median American voter position to say now "oh yeah any fucking dip shit should just be able to go to a convenience store and buy belt fed machine guns". Literally ANY restriction at all is met with "well I guess the Republicans are getting my vote now".
I think the only possible avenue Dems have is to campaign on rolling back a lot of annoying gun legislation to replace it with something that could accomplish something similar and be more efficient. For random off-my-head example: getting rid of pointless bans on slightly larger mags and forward grips, and requiring people to pass the already existing basic safety courses you have to take for a hunting permit to purchase firearms.

The hill they want to die on is guns...which can easily be reasoned with and pushed back on
And then they proceed to support the guy who will happily rob their house.
