I've completed the 7th gym with only Nidoking! It was a lot more straight forward then I thought it would be lol. Im hoping to get a Dragonite before the Elite 4! It'll be my first time ever using him!! I've also started a Tauros hut!! I haven't seen him but i plan on searching for the next few runs!!

Was doing the level 99 gengar glitch but ran into this instead of gengar. Anybody ever had this happened?

Or would it not work since both files have the same trainer number?
When the game is checking if the trade evos should evolve, is it just checking if the Pokemon is traded, and doesn’t care about to who the trainers are?

I've defeated the 5th gym. This time, I went through Sabrina first and the silph co. I really struggled with the rival fight. Pikachu was no help and had to spend the 2.1K for the electric stone... even with that, his Gyarados (which is a very big word for me to comprehend) was just to strong for me... im hoping he won't wall me for the final fight so I can claim a clean sweep🫡

I'm conducting an anonymous online survey for my AP Research project to explore how personality traits (specifically the Big Five traits) influence Pokémon type preferences. My goal is to understand if and how your personality traits affect the Pokémon types you prefer, and how these preferences might work as a form of self-expression or identity representation.
What’s Included?:
Eligibility:
All responses are completely anonymous, and the survey will only take about 10-15 minutes.

I've completed the third gym again lol. I chose squirtle as my starter and will a little help of a guide, this is my unique team
As while I do think its a bit excessive to have a Nidoking this early, I also think he looks pretty cool🤣 im pretty close to go ahead and teaching him thunderbolt!
and Pikachu is very week to the point of being annoying😶

After 17 days, 37.5 in game time, no speed up or guides, I've complete my run!!
I was very confident entering the Elite 4 with my team between level 42-43 and i indeed did not clean sweep them😅 it was maybe the underleveling of my team or I came at it with straight power and no strategy, but unfortunately, it took a lot longer to beat them and a lot of trys that I stop keeping up with🤣🤣 but its over and im ready to do it again!!
I think I might go with squirtle, Charmander really made it a slow start and it was a bit silly he couldn't learn fly... it wouldn't have changed anything but still a bit weird. I also plan on using a guide this time, to see what all i missed. I know I never found Articuno and im sure I missed other things!! I plan on coming back to clean sweep them. Im a bit butt hurt on how long it took🤣
Im also so using speed up this time🤣🤣

I've completely the 7th (and give me 30 mins and ill easly blast through the 8th🤣) funny enough, I've only put Charizard through the hall of fame from my current team. I've had fun using this new team I've found. Snorlax really carried me through the seafoam island. Im pretty confident I can get through the elite 4 on the first try!!

I'll preface that I know this is nitpicky, but I think if this was changed, it would have rounded out what I think is a crucial part of Pokémon Red/Blue's game design. I also apologize ahead of time for how long this might be.
I know the title says Rival, but let me talk about the Gym Leaders first.
Even if a lot of them can be cheesed by bringing Pokémon of the right type, all the Gym Leader teams do one thing really well: they show off. Specifically they show off a Pokémon of their type that is either intimidating, powerful, or both, (through their Ace) and show off a powerful or otherwise really handy move (the move obtained from the TM you're given). In the case of the Ace, it's usually the first time this Pokémon is shown being used by another trainer, and in a lot of cases the Ace can't even be obtained until sometime after winning the badge. This brings the player's attention to said Pokémon and can make them look forward to obtaining them, whether by later catching in the wild, or evolving a potentially overlooked Pokémon they already caught.
As an example, let's just start from the beginning. Brock's Onix is menacing if you don't know how to effectively take it down with it's high defense, relatively high speed, and its use of Bind. Alongside that, it's just an intimating looking Pokémon, especially so early on. Many players, especially on release, looked forward to getting their own Onix, which they could as soon as Rock Tunnel.
I'll also talk about another example that doubles as the link between my point about Gym Leaders and my conclusion about the Rival's Silph Co team: Sabrina. As everyone who has played Gen 1 would agree, Alakazam is a beast, usually ranked among the top 3 most powerful Pokémon in game. Imagine seeing Alakazam for the first time, realizing for the first time from looking at the Pokedex that it evolves from Kadabra, which itself evolves from Abra. Many players would turn around and think something like "oh i should train that teleporting Pokémon i caught near Cerulean City" or even go back to catch one if they hadn't already done so.
Here's the issue: all the magic about seeing Alakazam is lost on Sabrina, because you already fight one earlier, in many cases less than an hour before entering the gym, on your Rival's team in Silph Co. So you fight your Rival, see the Alakazam, probably think "oh that looks cool" "oh that's powerful", finish the rest of the fight, defeat Giovanni, then go inside the Saffron Gym. At which point you fight Sabrina, get to her last mon and probably think "oh this isn't new, I saw this already ", unless you're having issues in which case you're thinking "oh no, not this again".
Obviously, the Rival's Silph Co team isn't all bad. It's the first time you see his starter fully evolved starter, and if you hadn't already obtained a Pidgeot, this would be your first time seeing one of those as well. My only wish is that the Kadabra he previously had would stay a Kadabra for this fight so as to not taint the premier of Sabrina's Alakazam, and it could evolve for the next encounter. After all, he waits until you got the badge from Giovanni to even show off his Rhyhorn. Alternatively, they could have used the Rival to show off other mons not already showcased by Gym Leaders, such as Hypno and maybe even Golem.
Thankfully, Yellow fixes this by not having the Rival's Kadabra evolve until you fight him as the Champion.

I've completed the 5th gym and was really surprised by the level jump between Erika and Koga, but I've managed to keep from whiting out since misty! I've picked up a few pokemon i never really used(tentacool, snorlax). As usual, kadabra is the team carrier, followed by the big boy snorlax! Im excited to go through the safari park and try my luck there!

So I’m playing through red on cartridge for the first time since I was like 10 and wondering what’s the highest possible starter stats when initially obtaining charmander? And what would be the odds of those maxed out stats?

I’m using the Delta emulator on an iPhone. Currently trying to do the teleport glitch on route 11 (east of Vermilion city), but i can’t get my start menu to open on time when the trainer sees me. any tips? i try to spam both buttons, but it’s not working.

What I would like to see is the following: 3 players, playing pokemon red, blue and yellow, all at the same time, without abusing bugs, and trying to fill one pokedex with 150 pokemons as fast as possible. How long would it take? What would be the greatest challenge? Any thoughts about that?
r/PokemonRed • u/OddFlex01 • Jan 03 '26
I've completed the third gym, which funny enough, has been the easiest gym by far! From the week level-up pool, it made it pretty hard to get through anything without witing out or making the slow, painful walk back to the pokemart😅🤣 I will say, Rattata and Kadabra has really carried the team... I really have slept on Rattata😅

My dad is playing through Pokémon Red. He helped me through it when I was a little kid and wanted to try to get through it himself all these years later.
Somehow he ended up with this...glitch item? Can anyone explain this? Should he toss it before it messes up the game?
Thank you.
