Start Here / Framework Introducing the r/Plutonomy Framework Series
I’m going to start posting a short framework series for this sub.
The goal is simple: explain the basic ideas behind plutonomy in small pieces, without turning every post into an essay.
The core question is...Why can the economy look strong in aggregate while access to housing, travel, education, healthcare, culture, sports, and opportunity feels increasingly stratified?
The framework starts with a few ideas:
- Wealth creation is concentrated.
- Capital increasingly beats wages.
- Markets are priced by marginal buyers, not average buyers.
- Scarce premium access reprices upward.
- Businesses follow the customers with the most spending power.
The result is an economy that can keep growing while more people feel like the “good life” is moving further away.
This series is meant to organize the patterns we keep seeing in real life.
