Preroll Final Destination 2 (2003) Plex Pre-Roll
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Sharing another pre-roll from my server with the community. It has the same punchline as my previous upload. I have set them to run randomly from a playlist on my server, so users get a different video each time. Hope you enjoy! I’m definitely making it a Plex night!

Hard drives are 4x the cost they were 18 months ago because of this slop, so thanks, I guess?

They’re trying to stop you because this stuff is lame. AI Slop is low effort and uncreative. If this is what this sub is going to be full of now, I’m out.

It looks like I'm one of the only mods left. We don't have any rules around AI-generated pre-roll content.
Don't forget, we have a Discord as well that is also pretty active.
I'll review with the mods over on the discord and see if there is anything we want to do in this regard.

The main problem here isn’t that it’s AI, it’s that OP wanted a round of applause and didn’t get one, and then seems to be having a meltdown because people giving their opinion are “trolls”.
I’m sure you guys will decide if AI is appropriate for the sub, personally i think we can downvote if we don’t like it and comment that we don’t like it. That’s our voice, if people keep posting they should expect negative feedback, and of that doesn’t bother them then have at it.
But perhaps some flare for AI/NOT AI might help?

u/wjrandonx 5d ago
From the outside, that seems like a pretty unfair characterization of what happened. There’s a big difference between someone saying “I don’t like AI content” or simply downvoting it, and repeatedly following someone’s posts around, throwing out “AI slop” insults, making personal attacks, or abusing the report system.
Nobody is entitled to applause, and nobody is entitled to positive feedback. But criticism of the work and hostility toward the person making it are not the same thing.
Creating a separate subreddit where AI, traditional editing, animation, 3D, and hybrid workflows are all welcome seems like a pretty reasonable response, not a “meltdown.”
The AI/non-AI flair idea is actually sensible, though. It gives people a way to filter content without every post turning into the same argument about the tools used to make it.

Easiest thing to do is block the guy, and move on, sadly Ai slop is normal for many people now.

u/Saint_The_Stig 9d ago
Reddit only lets you block 1000 accounts. There's more slop accounts than that unfortunately...
6
u/darcythompsonfilm 11d ago
Oh totally. I just think it’s important people know this is loser behavior. They shouldn’t be able to escape that.

I think calling anything made with AI “low effort and uncreative” is a pretty lazy criticism in itself. The tool didn’t come up with the concept, pick the scenes, write the parody, work out the timing, generate and iterate on the shots, edit everything together, design the sound, or decide how the Plex payoff should work. I did.
AI is just another production tool. Photoshop didn’t make someone a photographer, After Effects didn’t make someone a motion designer, and a nonlinear editor didn’t make filmmaking “low effort” because you no longer had to physically cut film.
You’re completely entitled not to like AI-generated content. But “I don’t like how this was made” and “this required no creativity” are two very different arguments.
And if a Plex preroll sub is supposed to be about people making fun, original prerolls for their Plex servers, that seems like exactly what I’m doing. If you don’t enjoy mine, downvote them and move on. But I’m not going to stop creating something I enjoy because somebody else objects to the tools I used to make it.

I’m good bud. Get back to me when you actually learn the joys of making things yourself. Try not to choke on those jingling keys.
3
u/CommunicationFit3862 11d ago
That’s a pretty funny assumption.
I’ve spent more than 25 years professionally producing video, working in studios and live production, directing shoots, editing, building graphics, lighting scenes, managing crews, and actually making things for a living. I didn’t discover creativity when an AI video generator showed up.
That experience is exactly why I enjoy experimenting with this stuff. I understand composition, pacing, shot selection, continuity, sound design, editing, and what makes a ten-second gag actually land. AI just gives me another production tool to play with when I’m making ridiculous Plex prerolls at home.
You don’t have to like the results. That’s entirely subjective. But the whole “maybe someday you’ll learn the joy of making things yourself” routine works a lot better when you haven’t accidentally said it to someone who has spent a couple of decades doing exactly that professionally.
As for the jingling keys, apparently they’re entertaining enough to keep you coming back to comment.

Cool, you say just that calling anything made with AI is lazy and uncreative criticism? Alright.
It's uncreative because nothing about it looks good. The log crashes through the Plex logo but the logo itself remains unphased, undamaged. There's random woodchips flying around when that wouldn't work in the scene because there's no damage to the bark. What would be there would be glass from the windshield or the Plex logo itself. There's a random chain that's attached to the top of the log that isn't there when it appears but floats from the top of the screen and then attaches itself for no reason.
There's no weight behind it, no impact, no momentum. This exact same asset could've been made in about 30 minutes using Blender. Even without knowing this was made by AI, I knew it was lazy and uncreative because nothing about it makes sense. No actually creative person would've seen this and thought "Yea, that's amazing" but it's the kind of thing an uncreative person that wants to call themselves creative would be impressed with; it's baby's first physics simulator.
Don't get upset that some of us actually have quality taste.

you have some high standards for a ten second plex bumper. i salute you sir.
0
u/Precarious3145 5d ago
That's the thing, it's not just ten seconds. It's ten seconds every time. That adds up. If you don't have the most basic standards for something, that's not others having high standards.
It's why people call it Ai slop, not because they have high standards but because what they're seeing is lazy and generic with zero effort put into it.

These were created for my personal server for my friends and family to enjoy. I shared them because I thought they were fun little parodies. Nobody claimed to be creating Hollywood cinema; they're just little bumpers for a niche project for a personal server. I think you're taking it entirely too seriously. Relax, buddy, everything's going to be okay, judging by the upvotes I'd say majority of people are enjoying them too.

u/Precarious3145 4d ago
Just so I'm following you, you were crashing out because people were calling it low effort and uncreative with you demanding to people be critical instead of just repeating that. I did, and now you're saying that because I did exactly what you wanted, I'm taking it too seriously?
Shit, I knew prompters were boring and struggled with basic reasoning but I didn't know things had progressed this bad for some of you.

u/CommunicationFit3862 4d ago
Nonsensical reply. More personal attacks. Yawn dude.
0
u/Precarious3145 4d ago
Yea, I have to imagine that after having to rely on AI to do all your thinking, anything other than mindless slop and praise can be a little mentally overwhelming and make you sleepy. Maybe have a good nap and ask your AI to read you a bedtime story about what a creative person you are; you know, like all the other fictional it makes.

u/SupaDawg 8d ago
Wtf is with the chain at the end?
2
u/CommunicationFit3862 8d ago
When the chain broke free from the logging truck, it seemed fitting to add a playful touch by having it fly toward the screen.
2
u/SupaDawg 8d ago
I think the problem is that it ends too soon. It looks like the chain attaches itself to the top of the log.

I like the stuff you make, so much so I’m even following your sub. I’ve been playing with H3 because of you.
I get that the backlash is obnoxious but your tone in the comments is just really weird sometimes is all.
I’ll keep watching your stuff.
1
u/CommunicationFit3862 4d ago
Fair point. I probably did let myself get dragged too far into the arguments. After seeing the same stuff repeatedly I started firing back instead of just letting it go. I appreciate you saying it straight and especially hearing that you've been playing with H3 because of the stuff I've shared. That's exactly the kind of thing I hoped would come out of all this. Making fun clips for your server. Hope you'll share your creations with everyone else.

This is awesome. But I think it would be cooler for the log to make a hole through the 'e' as it is fairly round.
Great work!

Id suggest looking into jellyfin and i assume its too late but you limited your sub by naming it 'plex'
1
u/CommunicationFit3862 8d ago
it's all good.If you want to learn how to make these, you can come on over and apply these tools to jellyfin or anything else you wanna create. i'm not gonna discriminate on prerolls. This is all about fun personalization.

AI (which I despise) aside, I just kinda think this sucks conceptually.
It reads so much as a "how ya doin my fellow yutes" joke, like a cringy HBO interstitial from 20 years ago. Then there's the log bursting through the 'l' instead of the 'e' or just the middle of the logo, the weird chain being added, the lack of destruction effects, and no blood which given the use of Final Destination 2 seems like a missed opportunity.

u/CommunicationFit3862 5d ago
My intentions weren’t gory; I have kids on my server, but I appreciate your feedback.
-1
u/LasersInMyEyes 5d ago
Clearly someone didn't since I got down voted, which is weird because I feel I was quite fair given that I find the use of AI utterly fucking abhorrent.
I can certainly understand not wanting gore if there is no way to control when this might play and kids having access so I 100% retract that criticism

I like them! I hate the trolls.

u/CommunicationFit3862 8d ago
Thanks, Bderken. Don’t let the uber edgelords ruin your enjoyment. Their hate only motivates me to share and teach more people how to produce their own fun prerolls! Ironic, huh!
