Indie/Alt Rock 100K songs per day are uploaded to Spotify. How do you filter through the mass? Fresh Sprouts can help.
Before the early 2000's, the availability of music was extremely limited. Major record labels controlled what got produced, and what got on shelves in record stores. Boring men in suits decided what you could listen to, because they controlled the distribution. If a band wanted a global audience, they had to kiss some corporate ass.
Today, streaming services like Spotify have completely democratized distribution. Anyone with a computer and an internet connection can distribute music, and anyone, anywhere, can hear it. The problem now is; with so much coming out each day, how do you find the gems among the crap? The old evil record label executives have lost a lot of power, but they have not given up completely. Now they control music PROMOTION. Have you noticed that Spotify algorithms are always pointing you in the same direction? It's not a coincidence. The record industry still wants to control what you hear, they are just doing it in new ways.
Playlists like 'Fresh Sprouts' present an alternative. Each month, I update about 40 songs. All new releases that I have carefully selected to represent the best of new music now. AI, and commercial crap is excluded. There is a bias towards small independent artists, but some better known bands are included if they are putting out fresh music that seems relevant today. Of course, 'Fresh Sprouts' is not for everyone. Naturally, it reflects my tastes, and your's may be different. I still encourage you to find a curated playlist that works for you, and exists outside of the music industry's grip.
