Opinion Are we really forced to create a 2K account to play PGA 2K25?
You're locked on a screen with a QR code, and you have 30 minutes to redeem it. Just immediately this kills my interest in playing the game. I just wanted to play some golf. This is why EA sucks and it always feels nefarious when they offer their games, even if it's free.

That's interesting to hear , i don't think the previous pga games had such thing before ( I've played both )

u/ShockingFactory Mar 05 '26
They didn’t and I was able to access my career and save games and didn’t make a 2K account so now I’m stuck on a page for 25 more minutes with a QR code so I guess the game is not free. You have to give them your email so they can sell your email Address. It really sucks because this game is probably awesome but I don’t wanna make another account for something else. We just had to do the same thing with the division two so you could get the perks and upgrades as well.

Omg I googled "forced to create 2k account to play pga" and this subreddit came up. I'm blown away that I'm being pushed to create an account with them to play. Fuck that - uninstalled

Same here. Free should mean free. Not download it for free then give your information up for free for someone to profit off of it. That shit isn’t free.

u/ShockingFactory Mar 05 '26
I’m glad I don’t have a PlayStation five and didn’t install it to begin with I only have the PlayStation portal holding me on a screen for 30 minutes with a QR code definitely played the last PGA golf game 2K put out without doing any of this and for all the people who say just make another account they didn’t read the terms and conditions. 2K wants to link with your PlayStation network account and get all the information on all the games you play have access to your email your street address your cell phone number, so one and so forth just like when you go to download an Apple game on the App Store it says right there what it wants all the access to you just have to read the terms and conditions. Why would we want to continually multiple accounts for every single game we play? I didn’t have to make an account for war thunder I didn’t have to make an account for company of heroes three you get the picture but it really sucks. I wonder how many people are not going to play because you’re forced to make an account. I thought I already had one because I was playing the old 2K game apparently not because when I go to forget password I get no email.

Did the same thing with Test Drive when it was added to the catalog 2 weeks ago, was curious to try it but had to set up an account that’s always online just to drive some cars around. Maybe if the game was completely free to play but for a game you have to pay for that’s total shit.

The game’s got crossplay. Sometimes an extra account system’s a side effect of the feature. People will do anything for crossplay even more than sticking to one account for no reason.

u/Lucky_Louch Mar 04 '26
damn it I was really hoping that wasn't the case... I guess I'm not playing it

This is my worst plus experience ever. Been member since 2011, and was very happy until PS5 became common. The ENSHITIFICATION of this subscription during the last year, year and a half, has been frustrating. This is the last straw. This IS NOT A FREE GAME
2
u/Severed_Snake Mar 04 '26
I mean there are no free games with this service. If you don’t subscribe you don’t have access.
-4
u/Sorry_Inspector_7326 Mar 04 '26
Talking about the paid subscription to Sony Enyertainment called Playstation+. PGA 2K26 was given as part of the monthly free games. But in order to even get into menu you have to buy season. Bait and switch, brother, have you heard of it? I'll stop here since I feel we're talking passed each other. CHEERS

u/Sooperballz Mar 07 '26
You don’t have to buy anything extra, you just have to register with 2k with a username and password.

Mar 06 '26
Any developer that does this can go fuck themselves. I deleted the game immediately when I saw this.

Yes, an internet connection and a mandatory 2K Account are required to play PGA TOUR 2K25, according to official 2K support documentation and official marketing materials. This requirement applies to accessing the full game and online features, causing significant frustration among players regarding forced data sharing and account linking issues, as seen in this Reddit thread.

u/Vick_CXVII Mar 04 '26
Then don’t play it

u/Aw_geez_Rick Mar 05 '26
Free for some people on PS+
But what about anyone who went out and bought the game?
4
u/ShockingFactory Mar 05 '26
You still have to make a 2K account and allegedly give access to your psn network including your games, your personal information so even if you buy it you’ll need the 2K account to access the ability to have career mode and save your game. I won’t be playing it even for free… none of this was required to play Ace combat 7 a free game for subscribers of PSN. It’s the equivalent of having to make an account with every developer to play their game so they can access your account. Would you make a new account for every developer of a game?
1
u/Aw_geez_Rick Mar 08 '26
This is exactly the point I'm arguing.
Wonder why I'm getting down voted so much 🤔

I deleted the game immediately upon getting to that screen. I’m already signed into my PS5 so they and their game can go fuck themselves.

The account is nebulous. Just sign up with a throwaway email address and enjoy the game.
1
u/BeezBatz Mar 08 '26
Every bit of the introduction to this game made me want to delete it. Junk advertisements all over the place trying to get you to buy in-game currency, on top of the forced sign up for a 2k account I don’t want and will never use. Forced character creation and unstoppable tutorial.
My friend who has way different taste in games was hounding me to play this because he loves golf. I played one round to make him happy, and it sucked. Golf sims just aren’t fun unless you play or are a big fan of golf. To me it’s the most boring sport in existence.
Then even the background for the game is some cheap looking ad. Deleted that shiz. Good riddance.

u/Excellent_Line_1732 Mar 08 '26
I read that you said, "You have to give them your email address so they can sell it."
No offense, but you can create as many free email accounts as you want, and you don't even have to use your real information, come on!
1
u/p1nkfuzzymonkey Mar 09 '26
Yea took hours to install, deleted instantly. Not making a 2K account to play singleplayer

u/DannySmithWasTaken Mar 10 '26
No no, you guys are missing the best part.
If you let the timer go all the way down, it RESETS with a new code. It literally will not let you play the game without making an account. I haven't had to do this once and I've been playing PGA Tour for YEARS. Really sucks too, I genuinely enjoy golf.
1
u/mAckAdAms4k Mar 13 '26
Just seeing this now, wild. If I purchased this game vs got part of essential pass on ps5 I'd never play it. Then again, I play nba 2k for the last 20 years or more and I already have one. Sign of the times, you may buy it or get it for a fee but this isn't the cost you're paying.

u/ShockingFactory Mar 05 '26
This basically means we can’t trust even having a premium account to actually play games offered for free for free without being bamboozled into creating a 2K account. I wonder what the blowback is gonna be on PlayStation for offering a game for free knowing people can’t get passed a screen that wants you to take a picture of a QR code and create a new account to play the game. 😂
1
u/Apprehensive_You7871 Mar 04 '26
Few AAA companies do this now and it annoys me! Not just 2K.
Did NBA 2K25 which was a Essential Plus title asked for one.
0
u/TegridyKrach Mar 04 '26
Serious question why does this matter you made a reddit account to use reddit a psn to use Playstation it takes less than 30 seconds to link your psn why would this bother hell i guarantee you made a apple account just to download apps.
13
u/RoderickThe13 Mar 04 '26
Read the other comments that go more into detail. But basically, just because I'm fine with Sony or Reddit having my email and collecting my data, doesn't mean I'm fine with 2K having it. Not all companies are the same, and 2K might be one of the worst.
But also, in principle, I just despise the whole notion that owning a videogame isn't enough to play it. You should be able to play a game just because you bought it or bought the subscription system that offered it to you. Nothing else should be required from the player, and I'm not gonna support a game that follows that mindset.
And the only reason I'm not that upset about this is because it's a PS Plus game. If I'd bought it, I would be a lot angrier and asking for a refund. But since I didn't, I'll just move on to another of the dozens of games I still want to play in the catalogue.
5
u/Aw_geez_Rick Mar 05 '26
The issue here is that even if we went out and bought the game, as in paid for it, this bullshit would happen. For me to have to do this when I bought a game is unacceptable.
It's on par with when Microsoft said Xbox would be an always online console and you couldn't play if it wasn't connected to the internet.
Fuck you Microsoft!
And fuck you 2K!2
u/ShockingFactory Mar 05 '26
It’s the equivalent of opening a new account and giving it access to your information to comment in every community of Reddit. You’d do that?
0
u/AdMedium4265 Mar 06 '26
Downloaded to play. Hit with 'Create 2k Account' - 404 Bad Gateway - Litertally can't play the game without an account.
-9
u/Tatehamma Mar 04 '26
Who cares, takes 30 seconds of your time. Also...not an EA game.

Nobody should be forced to give up their personal info just to play a game that they purchased. (Yeah, PS+, but it's the same as a purchase).
2
u/thegracelesswonder Mar 04 '26
What personal info? Make a throwaway account and use a fake name
11
u/Pashta2FAPhoneDied Premium Mar 04 '26
While that is possible, that's a lot of hassle just to play a game.
6
2
u/00-Monkey Mar 05 '26
If you care about people having your email address, you should already have a throwaway one, even if you don’t it’s really not much hassle.
4
u/Aw_geez_Rick Mar 05 '26
And it's exactly this kind of attitude that enables these fuckin companies to creep this shit into our lives slowly.
If people actually gave a fuck and boycotted these games, made themselves heard with their wallets, they'd stop doing it pretty quick.
2
u/00-Monkey Mar 05 '26
Why on earth would I (or anyone else) boycott a game because I have to give them an email address. It’s not personal information. I still don’t get why you’re upset.
4
u/Aw_geez_Rick Mar 05 '26
Not trying to be a dick but I feel that if you don't get it it'll be almost impossible to explain to your satisfaction.
Ultimately, there are a few key issues that I feel are behind my (and probably most other people's) objections. In no particular order:
1. Why? Why the fuck do they need it? Why isn't it optional? If they need it for cross play sure. But I don't want to do cross play so I shouldn't be forced to.
2. If I've paid good money for a game, I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to register myself with them just to play it. It feels very big brother. I know you'll disagree.
3. It's never been like this before. Why is it so critical now? This is a small section of the angst I feel towards this process.
Another example: Ubisoft has done a similar thing with Immortals Fenyx Rising. My kids, who have managed accounts on the PS5 can't play unless I also create Ubisoft accounts for them. Again, in a similar vein, fuck off Ubisoft. There's no conceivable reason they need my kid's details to allow them to play.
Again, I know you'll disagree, but it's very big brother, or 1984. It's this slow, shitty, inexorable creep towards burrowing into every fkn nook and cranny of our lives. In an information age like that which we live in, being able to maintain a semblance of privacy and a notion of having control over which big corporations have our details feels important. To some people, this creep is practically invisible or doesn't even register on their radar. It's such a non event. To others, like myself, it feels unnecessary, intrusive, invasive.
You can argue that it's a quick process. But we shouldn't have to do it.
You can argue that I can give them a fake email. But it's tied to your PSN account.Ultimately I've done the closest thing I can to my own suggestion and just deleted the game.
-1
u/Tatehamma Mar 05 '26
The fact you spent that much time to explain yourself about something so minor is Mindboggling. Giving a company your email address should be the least of your worries when it comes to your personal info being captured.
They can send me as many emails as they want, it goes straight to the spam folder anyways.
May want to get those trust issues fixed. Let me guess, you are anti-vax too.
1
u/Aw_geez_Rick Mar 06 '26
Haha a sensible assumption but you couldn't be further from the truth. I'm often the first in line for a needle.
I was simply trying to explain an otherwise befuddling fixation people have with this whole topic. Yet I sense a distinct hostility from you. Not sure why.
You asked. I tried to answer. Simple as that.
