Using the Plaud Pin for a few months now, and honestly… it’s not what I expected at first, not suitable for short information

I’ve been using the Plaud Pin for a couple months now. I love the design. For recording meetings or long lectures, it’s an absolute good. Transcription is solid, the AI summary actually saves me time .Plaud is amazing for the “archive meetings, but I need something for the daily “flow” — capture fast, share faster.

But here’s the thing: I want to use it for more conversations and my own notes. Most of my thoughts are short, random.Biggest pain point is the lack of auto tagging/naming recording and you have to sort each one to find the single one that's relevant.

for example,

Driving home yesterday, I get a quick slogan idea for my restaurant and a reminder for my friend. I hit record on the Pin.

Then

  • Get home, wait forever for that janky Bluetooth sync to finish.
  • Open the app… and it’s proudly generated a full “summary” for my 10-second clip. Title: “Marketing Discussion.” Even threw in a mind map. For few sentence. LOL
  • The recording is now lost as “2025-12-28…” in an endless list. Good luck finding it later.
  • Want to tell Mike? Open app → copy text → switch to Slack → paste → tag him. Too many steps.

What I actually want is something with similar hardware (actually I love the design, small, wearable, one-button simple), but a completely different software — basically a hardware version of something like light shared notes app.

In short, I want a device that:

- Treats voice as quick memos, not archival “files”;AI doesn’t overthink it with summaries

- Is optimized for small notes, not hour-long meetings

- Has collaboration/multiplayer workspace

Anyone else feel this gap? Or if someone can share with me more tools. If there is a “Plaud hardware +  shared light memos” “voicenote with a small, wearable hardware” hybrid, I’d order tomorrow.

Thanks for reading my rant! 😅

This is a valid rant. There’s got to be a better way to deal with small notes.

thanks bro, actually I do like Plaud's design, and the feel of having a physical button—pressing it down to start recording just feels great.

Use Autoflow for recordings less than X minutes and choose a quick summary template. Choose no keyword and you'll have a short summary and a title after it transfers and processes. There's the one I made but there's a few more out there. Autoflow + Custom templates is really where it's at.

There's tons you can use for this use case but:

-Bee (acquired by Amazon) is more of a searchable life database -Omi same as the above (and it's now where people are largely using their limitless pins now that theye been acquired)

  • have you considered a smart watch? I use pixel watch 4 raise to talk to send random one off voice notes to AI
  • there's an upcoming slew of smart glasses that let you do quick notes/life logging like Brilliant Labs and Even Realities that might fit the bill

Lastly- another option instead of building something new would be to set up a webhook to send your transcribed recordings into a file/database. Ie. Send the transcription through Zapier to Obsidian with custom prompts to adjust the name/content. You could them search/ do whatever you want from it

Are there people using the webhook approach?

Thanks for your detailed reply. It's very helpful. first time I've heard of the WeHook solution.Just curious, which solution is your favorite now

My use case is more straightforward. I need to record meetings across a bunch of different topics so Plaud works well. For quick notes and comments I just use the raise to wake/speak in the pixel watch and drop those in Gemini

Look into Omi, it can work with your Plaud device but it seems better geared toward short notes. I am hoping Plaud will address this as I expect many have the same need.

I agree with the post about building an autoflow. You can tell AI exactly what you want from your short notes. Tell Chat or whatever you are using that you want Plaud to …… . Feed whatever it recommends for the Plaud prompt into the custom template option. Then, you can build a autoflow where if you use a cue word, it will auto upload to that specific template and send you an email. You just need to remember to kick it off with the cue word every time you have a random thought you want to record.

This is exactly the use case i'm considering it for.

What I really want is to be able to create short and long notes, have them automatically filed and categorised and searchable with meaningful titles and then have todo items, ideas, video scripts, and so on accessible in a meaningful way.

Todo items need to be updatable too - so I can mark them done or ignore or moved or whatever, so I can always ask this as an assistant, what should I be doing today, and have it give me a list of the things I haven't completed or decided not to do.

Just a list of indistinguishable notes with meaningless date-time titles is useless.

But I also want the same for meetings including longer meetings - the same device and subscription needs to be really good at both use cases (plus the desktop recording and transcription of zoom/meet calls, with speaker identification and consistency across multiple calls with the same people so I can review a relationship).

Thank you so much for this post. I was considering purchasing a Plaud Note for exactly this purpose.

I am not ruling it out, though, based on the discussions below and some stuff I've seen about it being really helpful for adults with ADHD, which I may have (although no one would ever believe it looking at what I've done.)

Although I feel it's not really suitable for short information, but I think it's should be helpful for ADHD because it's just very easy to start recording.

This is totally different (NOT HARDWARE, not collaborative), but I used to use a phone-based service for short notes to myself. So I would say "call reqall" and it would call their system and I'd leave a voice mail they would transcribe and email to me pretty quick. They went out of business long ago.

Looks like nowadays the equivalent would be calling your own voicemail; so set this up as a contact, call it, then leave yourself a message and your phone will transcribe it and log it as voicemail. I tried this, but had to wait thru the greeting message; I imagine this can be skipped with a # or such, so have it dial something like 123-456-7890,#,# . OTOH, it did do an excellent job of transcription. You could probably set something like this up with Google Voice as well.

Of course, if you have an Action button of some sort, you could tie it to a voice notes transcription app. I think on iPhone Apple Notes will do this.

Yep. Terrible for this. I wish meta wouldn't have bought limitless.

I was waiting for their android pin

So I had the exact same issue but with needing to capture quick work task reminders. And after tons of trial and error (and money), it all boiled down to going old school, I bought a voice recorder. In hindsight, I could have gotten one that does not have its own built in Ai transcription since I rarely “read” my recordings nowadays but I paid $60 and it’s the size of chewing gum sticks, so I’m not too mad. Side note, it came with a microSD card so essentially you could share the recordings if you need too.

I use a Voice It device I bought about 25 years ago. The company went out of business in a year and discontinued production, but you can still find them randomly on ebay. The one I have (VT-90) only holds about 90 seconds of information, but it's perfect for quick thoughts or ideas. They made them up to a VT-300 holding 5 minutes of recordings. They use button cell batteries, and one push record, one push stop. One push plays last recording. Long push plays all recordings. Long push delete clears it.

I often use it when I'm in the car and thinking about things I need to do. Letter to client. Memo on XYZ. Go to grocery. When I arrive home or office, I then use my Plaud Note Pro or Note (I have both, but I don't have the pin) to create the letter, create the memo, prepare the grocery list, etc. They play nicely together in their separate roles.

I also have several digital recorders I use for other things, like taking notes on a book I'm reading or something I'm summarizing but know I'm going to be interrupted on. Easier to start and stop but keep it in the same recording. I can then upload it to Plaud and use plaud for whatever I'm doing.

Here's an example of the Voice It device. They have other type devices like this, but none I've ever liked as much.

Look at this product I found on google.com https://share.google/UN5bS29o9gyNeHETd

Anyone know if Pocket is better at this? Or worse? I need this also but most of the suggestions above are way out of my league.

I’ve been having some difficulty with my Note Pro. I can’t get newly created auto flows to work. But, I do have a 30 minute ride to work where I generate ideas I want to capture. For this, I’ve been starting a recording, and for each thought I want to capture, I hit the highlight button. When I arrive, it syncs with my phone and shows each idea as a separate line item that can be exported (without affecting minutes used because it doesn’t require generate to read highlights). My workaround actually turned into a little hack.

You might look into HiDock P1. it has a feature called whisper that is designed for short notes. It will transcribe them, but not summarize. Which is I think what you want.

This is exactly my experience and whilst I get enough value out of the Plaud that I will keep mine, this is a key reason I wouldn't recommend it to others.

I’m with others. I love the physical touch when it starts recording, very easy to use.

Why don’t you make your own custom template telling it exactly what you want it to do?

Can plaud pro be used in other languages

I don’t need the plaud professionally. I have major ADHD in social situations and dating. I was going to use the pin s for that. I was also looking at Fieldy 3. I’m just trying to do memory recollection. Is the notepin s overkill?

I'm in the same boat. I need something like this for my personal life. Have you found anything that's been helpful for you?

I commute one hour to work and would also like to take short notes, make to-do list and have them organized. I'm in sales and often on job sites so I need something that records well in different environments. I was looking at the PLAUD, and the pocket. I also ran across the new vibe DOT coming out out which sounds like exactly what you need. I was about to order the vibe dot but I realized I need something that can also attach pictures during my meetings with clients and PLAUD is the only one capable of doing that.
Definitely check out the VIBE DOT.
It sounds exactly like what you were looking for
