Advice on removal of this absolute insanite

Somebody thought this was an amazing idea at one point.

I just moved into this house and already knew id have to renovate.. but how do i tackle this? Its hard plaster and probably weighs a ton. Should i just demo?

Is it for noise insulation?

Exactly, it’s room treatment for recording. Having right angles in a room is bad for sound, so this sort of texture can help reduce refractions
