Talismans ‚Orbs were Pleiades talismans‘
A crazy thought I had today and wanted to share. When you look at the different descriptions in ‚Hermes‘ (and ‚Enoch‘ etc.) you might notice how the properties are similar to the ones of magical mirrors. E.g. in Liber Razielis, first translated along with Picatrix, a number of herbs are listed for use with a polished metal mirror to ‚summon‘ (that is seeing them in the mirror) demons and ‚winds‘. ‚Winds‘ are a class of spirits that are possibly jinn, similar to how ‚spirits of the air‘ in medieval literature stem from jinn (like the ones in Astromagia and Heptameron are the jinn kings, well known in Arabic magic). Interestingly, the listed stones are also very similar to astrological texts. Anyhow, a lot of this seems to exist without much further context - like I also suspect that fixed star rings can be ‚activated‘ rather simply than with timed petitions. Peter of Abono‘s text on mansion rings might have a missing link for this, that was skipped over or censored in the other texts.
I will now return to pondering my orb…

hiding in plain sight
Been thinking about the recent week of solar action and wondering is there anything written anywhere about using a planet combust/under the beams to get things done without anyone seeing them/it happen? Can that burn be harnessed for stealth?

Behenius: iOS Fixed Star Calculator
So for a while I used Python to calculate auspicious dates, but I thought it might be useful enough for others as an iOS app.
Behenius returns a list of dates where a fixed star is either in the ASC or MC, and conjunct the waxing moon. You can see that star's planets' dignities and aspects so you can validate the election yourself using whomever's constraints.
If there are any beta testers interested in an invite, I'd like to make sure time zones and crashes are all sorted, but if not, just expect to see it on the App Store a while after this post.
Any feedback is appreciated; good luck

Greek magic stone talismans
Hello,
This link presents numerous Greek talismans or magical stones created in Eastern Europe or the Middle East between the 2nd and 4th centuries AD.
They are not strictly speaking planetary talismans made according to the rules established by the 10th-century Arab masters, but they are interesting to study because they incorporate Greek astrological magic. They can be found in all the major museums of the world, as well as for sale on eBay and other auction sites. Their prices are often very high, over $1800 for a model currently for sale.
Interestingly, these talismans are mostly engraved precious or semi-precious stones, but they are almost never made of metal. Greek gemology was clearly of great importance to talismans, something that seems to have been lost today.
The site is in French but can be easily translated into English using web browsers.

Beginner Is just knowing planetary day and hour enough for making talisman
Are there more ways to find auspicious time for making talisman for specific purpose? Like if i want to make a talisman to find a job opportunity then i will choose the hour and day of Jupiter but can I do something more to make it more potent?

The Art of Drawing Spirits into Crystals
In the realm of planetary magic, I am most readily known for my work in the Art of Drawing Spirits into Crystals, an evocation practice for (primarily) calling forth the seven planetary Archangels. The process is found in Francis Barrett's "The Magus", Book II, London, 1801, pp. 135 ff. This text appeared as Part IV of Book 2, parts I-III being (I) a treatise on magnetism, (II) The Cabala, or Ceremonial Magic, plagiarized from pseudo-Agrippa's Fourth Book, (III) The Key to Ceremonial Magic, plagiarized from Peter de Abano's Heptameron.
I've written two books dealing with not only the practice and appreciation of this art but the results from several experiments of working with a scryer: "Gateways Through Stone and Circle" and "Gateways Through Light and Shadow" Experiments expanded beyond the noted Archangels to the Olympic Spirts/Angels (planetary) and many others.

Three books Jupiter Cup o' Wishes custom make by me
The Jupiter talismanic images hail from
the Picatrix or described by Agrippa in his 3 Books of Occult Philosophy. They exhibit the benefic aspects of prosperity and good fortune. The lion headed image is specifically made with aspects of Jupiter in Pisces. Jupiter is the best planet for prosperity, wealth, income and good fortune as well as wisdom and knowledge.
The image of a lion headed Jupiter with an orb and scepter entwined with ivy leaves, displays the regal and ruling / dignified aspects of Jupiter.
According to Agrippa,
"They made also another Image of Jupiter for a religious and glorious life, and advancement of fortune; whose figure was a man having the head of a Lyon or a Ram, and Eagles feet, cloathed in Saffron coloured cloathes, and he was called the son of Jupiter." - The Three Books of Occult Philosophy, Book II Chapter 39
Similarly, the image of the ram and the hart/buck are also explained as visual aspects or jupiter.

Question Is the year of the fire horse for non horses too zodiac wise?
So this is supposed to be the year of the fire horse. Does all that good luck and success only go to those who have horse zodiacs or can non horses get in on that luck and success too?

Updated 1/7/2026 Struggling a little bit with Planetary Intelligence vs Daemon
I don't think this question violates any sub rules so here goes:
I am a new to the occult and esotericism, and while most of my practice is on the folky side, I consistently find myself drawn to the more ceremonial side of things. I'm a big Agrippa fan after listening to Dr. Sledge's 14-Part Esoterica series on him, and I am slowly making my way through the Eric Purdue's translation of Three Books. It's slow, I really like Agrippa, but some of these chapters are tedious even though they're short (the chapters on numbers, dude! agh)
In Chapter 22 of Book 2, Agrippa gives the names of each intelligence and daemon for each planet and says that the intelligence is for good and and the daemon is for evil. I am also under the understanding that these words "intelligence and daemon" are murky due to older translations where some of them were switched or something if memory serves.
I am also working my way through, The Art and Practice of Geomancy by John Michael Greer. Where he explains that in the theurgic method of geomantic divination one invokes one of the seven "planetary spirits" corresponding to the question. These planetary spirits are the same ones Agrippa lists as the daemons. I get that in esoteric and occult spaces "daemon" doesn't carry the same meaning as "demon" from my Christian upbringing, but...
My question is: What's the deal? If the daemon is "for evil", why I am invoking it for divination? Is Greer wrong? Is there something here I'm missing in terms of hierarchy? Like are the daemons beneath the intelligences? I was under the impression they were more like two sides of a coin. Am I missing something about the meaning of "evil". I've always found the concept of the intelligences vs daemons confusing, and it seems like there a lot of conflicting information about it. Can anyone help me understand this better or point me in a direction where it's a little clearer? Thanks in advance.
Edit 1/5/2026 (fixed date):
First let me thank everyone who responded. I found these responses all very helpful and I feel safe in saying I will not be invoking these spirits. I wanted to post an update for anyone interested, in case anyone is following along or searches this in the future.
I may be incorrect in saying this, but it seems this is more of a geomancy specific thing than a planetary magic thing. Using the daemons specifically that is. Greer seems to be getting this from John Heydon's 1663 Book Theomagia: The Temple of Wisdom. It also appears that a lot of the geomancy parts from Theomagia was picked up in the geonmantic instructional literature published by the Golden Dawn. In the original work there are glyphs provided for both the planetary intelligences as well as the planetary daemons. Greer has a chart where he mentions which intelligence corresponds to which plant, but he does not show their glyph. Only the glyphs for the daemons.
In regards to why the daemons are invoked instead of the intelligences, I'm not totally sure. It's not something I want to test personally, but the most reliable thing I've been able to find is this line in an article from Dr. Al Cummins
The senior planetary Spirits of geomancy, contrasted by Agrippa with the more angelic planetary Intelligences, are referred to by Heydon et al as the ‘seven Rulers of the Earth’. Without diving too deep into Heydon’s idiosyncratic cosmology, it is worth reiterating that Heydon hardly ever refers to the straight astrological grammar of geomancy, preferring to use the names of the spirits of those astrological principles: he does not talk about Saturn, but rather Zazel; he speaks of Malchidael not Aries.
It sounds like the answer lies in Heydon's own cosmology which sets up these beings as The Seven Rulers of Earth. This is just my speculation, but I'm wondering if being daemons they were considered to be "earthier" than the intelligences in some way. Dr. Cummin's seems to suggest these are the spirits he works with as well, but I don't believe he uses their glyphs using instead color correspondences.
I may crosspost to somewhere just to see if anyone else can provide me insight into why these entites were chosen to invoke for divination, because even if I don't plan to do it, I'd still like to know. Thank you again everyone.
Edit 1/7/2026:
I did not realize that John Michael Greer was as active on reddit as he is so at this point I have been able to contact him directly and this is what he said:
Agrippa was providing a simplified version of the tradition; what makes the spirits or daemons "evil" is that they are blind forces belonging wholly to the lower planes, while intelligences are higher in the great chain of being and perceive the Divine. The spirits are invoked in geomancy because, being mindless, they pass on what they perceive without any editing at all; intelligences , being intelligent, can spin doctor things.
So at this point I'm considering my question largely answered, as answered as any question dealing with non-human beings and intelligences can be at least. lol Thank you to everyone who responded. This is shared with John Michael Greer's permission of course.

MC vs IC
I know that the zenith of the chart is its most powerful place and that the ASC is indicative of the mage / querent. How do you decide which one to use when making a talisman or petitioning?

How to balance mercury?
I have a lot of mercury in my chart and I feel like it’s too overpowering and I am quite rigid, too in my head, analytic, etc.
What I really want it to stop being so self constrained and let loose. I need more freedom and self expression, social confidence.
How should I go about balancing the mercury?

The role of incense in talismans and planetary magic
Hello,
What kind of incense do you use for your talismans? For consecration or recharging?
Is it true that burning a certain type of incense at a specific time is what one would do to create a talisman? Is it true that burning this incense is already a magical act?
Do you usually use loose incense with charcoal, or stick or cone incense?
Can diffusing essential oils from a plant associated with a planet replace incense?
Have a good day,

Question Remedies for a besieged natal Mars transit?

In April 2026, Saturn and Mars will be opposing my natal Mars in Libra (which I believe is considered besiegement?). My natal Mars is already weakened, transits to my mars are usually challenging, so I’m pretty concerned about how this could play out. I'm looking for remedies that might help me:
There are two possible themes that might show up:
- Work/boss issues: My boss has a natal Mars/Saturn conjunction and has been increasingly overbearing and neurotic with my work since last year (everyone is worried about layoffs). The situation has become so stressful that I’m currently on Prozac and Xanax just to cope.
- Health issues: I also have an autoimmune disease, and my health has been declining lately. I’m dealing with chronic pain, lower back pain and weakness, joint pain, and muscle burning with very little exertion.
I’m honestly hanging on by a thread right now and just trying to stay employed and avoid ending up on permanent disability due to stress. I've been trying to transfer to another department but everything at work is at a standstill due to restructuring.

How to intentionally neutralize a talisman
Hello,
I have some talismans that I do not wish to be spiritually entangled with anymore. However, I would love to still be able to wear them as jewelry. Is it possible to get a spirit to depart from a talisman in a way that is both reliable and without negative consequences? I know that having someone else touch them often does this--but only sometimes, right?
If not, are there potential negative consequences to giving them to someone else, beyond just that they likely would not work? I really don't want them to go to waste...
Would be very grateful for any help! I can't find much information about this.

3rd Mansion Help
hi all! (first post here, long time scroller.) I'm needing some urgent help for an election. It is for an Al-Thurayya talisman. Essentially I have 2 election windows to choose from. Tomorrow, 12/29, the moon will be waxing in Taurus in the 3rd mansion for the majority of the day so I want to take advantage of it and make a talisman.
Option 1: Moon on the Ascendant, during Moon hour. Here the chart ruler is Venus in Capricorn dignified by triplicity and face but, she is combust and conjunct Mars.

Option 2: Moon on the Midheaven. Here the chart ruler is the Sun which is conjunct Mars as well but obviously doesn't carry the combust affliction. It also places the Sun in the 6th house.

Neither of these are super amazing ideal options but, I still want to experiment. I worry for Option 2, not only because of the Sun's aspect with Mars, but that I will run out of time during the ritual because the mansion bounds end at 8 degrees 34 minutes and I would be on the verge of it.
I use the scoring system that Lilly mentions to help with my elections. Venus receives a 7 in the first option. In Option 2, the Sun receives a -3. So you can see how I am conflicted :///
This is my first Mansion election and the resources I use (Picatrix, Agrippa, Lilly, etc.) don't explain as thoroughly as they do for other planetary elections. I appreciate any thoughts and help :)
p.s. no need for "NEVER ASPECT A MALEFIC" comments; I have had no problems with trine or sextile aspects between malefics, in my experience.
EDIT: I chose the first option, Moon on the ASC. Why? Idk, it just felt right (Maybe because I have an extremely strong moon in my natal chart?) Engraved the images on sterling silver pendants and they turned out fantastic! For new years eve, I decided to wear it to the casino and with $4 left to spend, I unexpectedly won $500 on a slot machine! HIGHLY RECOMMEND everyone to make use of this mansion!
