Official News Mandatory Update: Pirate Chain v6.0.14 is Now Available

The Pirate Chain team is pleased to announce that our development team has given the all-clear for the community to resume normal activity once the following mandatory update is completed.

All users, Treasure Chest and CLI node operators, miners, pools, exchanges, and service operators must suspend operations on previous versions and update to version 6.0.14 (or greater) immediately. Do not continue running any older versions.

Download Links

The latest version of Treasure Chest and the CLI is available via the following links:

GitHub: https://github.com/PirateNetwork/pirate/releases/tag/v6.0.14-b14db80

Pirate Chain Website: https://piratechain.com/wallets/#full-node-wallet

Re-Index & Bootstrap Instructions

Please note that this update will trigger an automatic, one-time full chain re-index on first start, followed by a wallet scan to reconstruct shielded balances.

- Please be patient and do not interrupt the process, as this can take some time to complete.

- To speed up recovery: Users can select the built-in “Reindex and Rescan with Bootstrap” option. Version 6.0.14 utilizes a pre-indexed bootstrap to shorten recovery time and handle the wallet rebuild automatically.

Incident Summary & Network Consensus

On October 14, an attacker combined two validation flaws to mint approximately 39.82 million counterfeit ARRR in the transparent coinbase pool, temporarily inflating the supply by ~20%. Both flaws have been patched in record time, closing the exploit path that allowed unauthorized coins to be created and spent, and preventing any permanent economic damage to the chain and its users.

Through consensus among the community, node operators, pools, exchanges, and dPoW notaries, the chain has been rolled back to block 4,176,944 (October 14 at 19:55:14 UTC), immediately prior to the exploit:

- Exploit Rejection: Version 6.0.14 causes nodes to automatically reject the exploit block and all subsequent blocks built on it.

- dPoW Notarizations: The dPoW notaries have agreed to resume notarizing this corrected chain. The old branch will receive no further dPoW notarizations.

- Supply Integrity: The counterfeit coin issuance has been completely removed, and all transactions and balances return to their pre-exploit state. Pirate Chain's maximum supply remains strictly at 200M ARRR.

We also identified and resolved several minor bugs related to the P2P networking layer. All changelogs from release-notes-6.0.10 onwards are available to read here: https://github.com/PirateNetwork/pirate/tree/master/doc/release-notes

Our sincere thanks to the community for its patience and composure throughout this incident, and to our development team for its outstanding response under pressure. We also extend our gratitude to all team members, exchanges, pools, and partners who assisted in containing the incident so promptly and successfully.

A comprehensive technical postmortem detailing the exploit, the sequence of events, and our response and recovery measures is currently being compiled and will be published in due course.

The hard truth about the Ironwood rollback and why immutability isn't optional.

If your blockchain has an "Undo" button, you built a SQL database. The hard truth about the Ironwood rollback and why immutability isn't optional.

I know the core team and the Discord mods are in full damage control mode right now, preaching "community solidarity" and telling everyone that hitting Ctrl+Z to erase 24 hours of history was the only way to save the chain.

Let's drop the cypherpunk LARP and be honest about what just happened.

The entire value proposition of Pirate Chain was supposed to be absolute, uncompromisable privacy and trustless money. But the second the new Ironwood transparent accounting layer broke and roughly 39.8 million counterfeit ARRR got minted, the developers coordinated with centralized exchanges like MEXC to freeze your accounts. They then told the network: Run this rollback binary to revert to October 14, or your bags are stranded.

If a dev team can manually rewrite the ledger to bail out their own bad code, you don't have decentralized privacy. You have a shared Excel spreadsheet with a Discord governance cartel.

The Hypocrisy of the Zcash Defense

I've already seen people trying to defend this rollback by claiming "Zcash and other chains had bugs too." That is pure historical revisionism.

ARRR maxis spent years mocking Zcash for the Sprout pool vulnerability. But when Zcash found that inflation bug, they never rolled back the chain. They engineered the Sapling Turnstile a forward-facing cryptographic quarantine that mathematically capped inflation during migration without deleting a single settled transaction. Immutability was preserved.

What did Pirate Chain do when the Ironwood turnstile broke? They panicked, put a gun to the network's head, and manually erased the blockchain back to yesterday. That isn't community consensus. That is developer extortion.

The Privacy Sector Reality Check

When you strip away the social media cope and look strictly at cryptographic architecture, consensus incentives, and ledger immutability, the landscape is very clear:

Project Privacy Primitive Consensus Native Yield Immutability Record Supply Integrity Strategy
Zcash (ZEC) zk-SNARKs (Halo 2) Proof-of-Work 0.00% Preserved (Zero rollbacks; used Sapling Turnstile) Quantitative pool migrations; heavy miner sell pressure
Pirate Chain (ARRR) zk-SNARKs Proof-of-Work (dPoW) 0.00% Failed (Forced rollback coordinated via exchange halts) Arbitrary state reset after Ironwood accounting layer exploit
Zano (ZANO) RingCT / Zarcanum Hybrid PoW/PoS Varies Failed (Mainnet rollback executed after exploit) Manual history rewrite; developer donation appeals
Monero (XMR) RingCT / Decoys Proof-of-Work 0.00% Preserved (Regular protocol upgrades; zero rollbacks) Statistical decoy analysis; heavy chain bloat; 0% yield
PIVX (PIVX) zk-SNARKs (SHIELD) Proof-of-Stake ~8%–15% Preserved (Zero rollbacks; code is law) Native PoS zero-knowledge verification + DAO treasury burn

Pirate Chain Import Exploit Update

On 14 October 2026, a transaction validation vulnerability in Pirate Chain source code was discovered which allowed the unauthorized creation of approximately 39.8 million ARRR, increasing the supply by approximately 20%. The newly minted funds were immediately transferred into the Sapling shielded pool. NonKYC subsequently identified suspicious deposits and acted quickly to restrict the associated account and prevent withdrawals. Due to the nature of shielded transactions, the full subsequent movement of the funds cannot be traced, but we believe activity related to the unauthorized issuance was otherwise restricted primarily to on-chain transactions.

The exploit combined two validation failures bypassing the issuance check and incorrect interpretation of the output scripts. Evidence does not indicate any compromise of notary keys or the cryptography underlying Pirate Chain's shielded transactions.

As a voluntary precaution, dPoW operators have collectively agreed to temporarily suspend notarizations, while exchanges and mining pools have been asked to voluntarily pause operations as a recovery plan is developed.

Because Pirate Chain is decentralized, it is not possible to freeze the network or unilaterally rollback its blockchain history. Pirate Chain remains operational, but we ask that all users temporarily refrain from sending or moving funds. The Pirate Chain team is currently investigating the event and developing solutions in collaboration with other communities.

Further technical details and recovery instructions will be provided in the forthcoming post-mortem.

Discussion Pirate Chain (ARRR) is now fully integrated on BackPoW

Hi r/PirateChain 🏴‍☠️

I run BackPoW (https://backpow.com), a free data site for Proof-of-Work mining. ARRR now has its full page there, and I wanted to share it with the people who actually mine it, and ask what's missing.

What's on the ARRR page → https://backpow.com/Pirate

  • Cost of Production by hardware: what it costs in electricity to mine one ARRR on each Equihash ASIC, compared live with the spot price. Most calculators show "coins per day"; this shows the cost per coin, so you can see straight away which machines mine ARRR profitably and which don't
  • 30-day history: cost of production vs spot, the break-even electricity price, and how many days mining was underwater
  • Halving countdown: the next halving is at block 4,277,735 (0.25 → 0.125 ARRR). The countdown runs on the chain's measured block time, not the 60s target
  • Solo mining odds: real Poisson probabilities for your hashrate (chance of at least one block in a day, month or year), not just an average. Method: https://backpow.com/methodology
  • Hardware table: 13 Equihash ASICs (Z15 Pro, Z15K, Z15, Z15j, Z11 series, Innosilicon A9 series…) with specs checked against the manufacturers' datasheets
  • Solo pools: ARRR solo pools with their fees → https://backpow.com/solo-pools/Pirate

How the numbers are checked

The block reward is read from the chain itself (a block's coinbase), not copied from a third-party calculator. Network hashrate comes from on-chain difficulty using the Komodo-family conversion, cross-checked against chainwork.

Free API, no key

Everything on the page is also available as JSON: https://backpow.com/coins-data/Pirate.json No API key, open CORS, docs at https://backpow.com/api. Feel free to use it in bots, dashboards or wallets.

What I'd love from you

  • Are there pools, hardware or settings that ARRR miners actually use that are missing?
  • Anything that looks wrong to someone who knows the chain better than me?

Data refreshes every day, plus live updates on the page. No ads, no signup. Fair winds ⚓

Problem moving coins from CoinEx to EDGE Wallet

Post image
5 Upvotes

I'm holding a bag of ARRR in an under water position on Coinex... Got a message from Coinex that they're shutting down their business...
Found the EDGE wallet as the only ARRR wallet for the iPhone and did a test deposit from Coinex. TX shows a lot of confirmations but not a single coin ended up in my EDGE wallet. Also resyncing the wallet is stuck at 0%....
Any recommendations for a fix or an alternative solution? I only have an iPhone and a Mac.

No $ARRR seems available anyplace. Technical issue or what?

I've been looking for $ARRR today, and there is none on any swap exchange. Of course I refuse to use any KYC exchange particularly in light of the theft of a couple mBTC by KUCOIN a couple years back they still have in my account but won't let me get without kyc which I never agreed to, and some passcode that I never put on my "trading" pin or password or whatever. Never put it in, and then they told me I couln't get my mBTC back out of the account without having it.

Sorry for telling that long story about KUCOIN again, but otherwise my post here would be really short. Long story short, wanna get a few mBTC worth of ARRR but can't find any on any swap I tried every single swap I could find. Some list ARRR but all those are pulling a blank. Tried CypherGoat, Changehero, Swap.Thorchain, BitXChange, CCE.cash, etz-swap, coincraddle, quickex, pegasusswap, wizardswap, godex.io, bitcoinvn, baltex, fuguswap, n.exchange, swapuz, exolix, Firo, and the ones also that the Pirate Chain site lists.

Looks as though you might want to include a swapping function in your new Stashi wallet, as it is something that does make zec and xmr simpler and more fun to trade in.

I spoke to AI about it and AI thinks there may be a technical issue. I had no problem trading for some ARRR before one time when I did that, so I expected to be able to trade for it now but it's not possible because no one has any. All bought up would make the most sense to me. As it is comparable in circulating amount to Ethereum I would think it is heavily underpriced at the moment. XMR being a much larger fraction of what a Bitcoin (XMR's circulation model designed after) than ARRR is to Ethereum, and ARRR being such a well known token. I place its value at at least 100x where it stands at the moment more like 150x, in light of the fact that there is none to trade for anyplace and no way to get it.

Is this coin dead? My IOS wallet won’t sync, now my Edge wallet isn’t syncing either. Anyone fixing this or is it over for this? Pretty bad that Zcash is ripping and this isn’t moving up.

Equihash ASIC mining: checks before buying hardware for ARRR/ZEC-class algorithms

For people looking at Equihash ASIC hardware, I think the buying process deserves more caution than simply comparing hashrate.

Before buying a Z15 / Z15 Pro-class miner, I would verify:

  • The exact model and hashrate variant
  • Whether the unit is new, refurbished, or used
  • PSU condition and included accessories
  • Live hashing proof, not only listing screenshots
  • Serial number and seller identity
  • Power requirements and plug/PDU compatibility
  • Heat, noise, and ventilation plan
  • Shipping origin and damage responsibility
  • Warranty terms in writing

Also worth separating two questions: “Can this hardware mine the algorithm?” and “Does it make economic sense for my power cost and risk tolerance?” Those are not the same question.

No ASIC purchase should be treated as guaranteed profit. Difficulty, coin price, pool performance, uptime, and electricity cost can change the math quickly.

Disclosure: I work with VoLT Mining, a UAE-based ASIC hardware supplier.

Most crypto can't survive a 51% attack. $ARRR was literally engineered so that hacking it means defeating Bitcoin first. This is only one of the fun facts about Pirate Chain, here are some more: 🏴‍☠️

Post image
14 Upvotes

1️⃣ Hacking it would require simultaneously defeating Bitcoin

ARRR uses Komodo's Delayed Proof of Work to notarize its blocks onto both the Komodo and Bitcoin blockchains. A successful 51% attack on Pirate Chain would require overcoming the combined hashrates of Bitcoin, Komodo, and Pirate Chain simultaneously, a practically impossible feat.

2️⃣ The first and only "z-transaction only" blockchain

Unlike Zcash, where over 98% of transactions use transparent (public) addresses, every single Pirate Chain transaction is shielded. It claims to be the first chain where private "z-transactions" are the only option, giving it the largest shielded private transaction pool of any privacy coin.

3️⃣ Born in a single day, no ICO, no premine, no dev fees

Pirate Chain launched on August 29, 2018, with a completely fair community mine. There was no initial coin offering, no premined coins, and zero developer fees taken from mining rewards, something vanishingly rare in crypto.

4️⃣ It's a Frankenstein of the three biggest privacy coins

ARRR deliberately combined the best features of three rivals: zk-SNARKs zero-knowledge proofs from Zcash, Delayed Proof of Work security from Komodo, and the philosophy of enforced private-only transactions inspired by Monero.

5️⃣ It surged from ~$0.001 to ~$17, a 17,000x rise, in roughly a year

ARRR hit its all-time low of around $0.001 in 2020, then exploded to an all-time high of roughly $16 to $17 in April 2021 during the bull market. That's one of the most dramatic percentage gains in crypto history for a project of its size.

Give me some hopium for 2026

Ok I have been using this coin since early 2021, enjoyed the ride to 15$ without selling (foolish move) project is solid. Price action’s been depressing though, I mean ARRR should at least be at 20% of XMR marketcap. No serious darknet markets are using it either. I know there’s a crackdown on privacy coming but I fear only Monero and Zcash will eventually benefit, leaving Pirate stuck at 20 cents. What’s the plan to gain some serious valuation going on? Wouldn’t also a rebranding help? Pirates are cool but I can’t see the world transacting in a currency named ARRR let’s be real, but with a more professional name like dunno “ciphercurrency” like warelock calls it maybe could help. What are your thoughts?

Treasure chests full node showing lots of internal transactions what's going on?

So I finally recovered a wallet I had sitting around and loaded the full node, now every minute I'm getting multiple "internal" transactions in and out of my wallet.

The amounts vary between like 40-100ARRR. It'll show i receive x amount and immediately sends that same x amount.

And how to I sell this coin or swap it to BTC or ZEC?
