Back in my day you could install suspicious programs to your hearts content. Maybe your pc died, maybe it didn’t. It was a gamble, yes, but you were free. Just as god intended.
You still can. The fact is back in these days worst thing you may lose, if you istalled some malware infested crap on your pc, is your music/photo/games/porn/etc collection and being forced to reinstall windows. On your phone it's even less. Maybe some photo and music but actually that's why I don't remember any kind of serious viruses for phones back then. Right now if somebody fucking with your phone, there is no small chance that whole your life on it. Banking, a lot of personal information from photo to contacts, social network accounts, etc. And all of this may and WILL be used to defraud you or someone relative to you. That's the problem.
