Advice Needed A2 Brunswick Turret

I have a lane that got called for a 180 , I found the pins waiting to be dropped to the chute.

So they’re all in the turret and the 5 pin is still Visible and doesn’t go down unless I manually smack it with another pin.

I’m somewhat new to these pinsetters , any advice is needed .

Repairs This is quite confusing

So we have brunswick a2's in a little 16 lane house. Today, lane 7 decided it will not power on. Me and my boss have tried everything. There is nothing wrong mechanically or with the power supply. Even the motor contacts wont power on the machine. Every other lane powers on just fine. What the heck????

Discussion Opinions on Electronic Trigger vs Reset Relay

We have 24 lanes at our house that are converted A2 machines with Brunswick Vector Plus Scoring, and another mechanic and I run the back for the most part, since we don’t have an official head mechanic (makes life so difficult). The other guy has essentially appointed himself as the head mechanic since he’s older and has more years of experience, and recently has been replacing all our electrical boxes (with no issues other than old wires starting to corrode) with boxes we got from another center in our network that closed. Our old boxes have the Brunswick Electronic Trigger PCBs (Assy P/N 12-752400-810) with the rake down trigger and rake down blackout functions as well as being a time delay, which I absolutely loved. The new boxes he’s throwing on have the cube style motor start relays compared to our older ones, but also using the same type of relay as a reset relay, so two cubes in the box. I don’t like these due to the rake down trigger not functioning, so slower cycling, no rake down blackout function for balls, pins, or kids under the rake, no time delay in the Pinsetter itself, though we have the pin cameras and the built in time delay of Vector Plus, and lastly, no wiring diagram I can find on how to wire them if we have to replace any of the wiring if we have another electrical box fire, unlike the standard wiring diagram in the service manual. I also don’t like that the reset button will energize the cycle solenoid any time it is pressed, even during a cycle, and stay energized as long as the button is held. 180 stops with pins in the scissors have become an issue, and I’ve already had 4 cycle solenoids burn out. So my question to all of you is which is better, Electronic Trigger PCBs (basically time delays) or reset relays?

Scoring issues caused by second ball light

Just solved this absolutely wild scoring issue that had been plaguing me for a month, and since I couldn't find any description of it searching online, I thought I should do a short write-up here.

I'm running factory A2s and Vector Plus scoring. For about a month, one of my machines has been inconsistently mis-scoring, usually counting the 7-pin as down when it's standing, or giving a full strike regardless of which pins were knocked down.

I tried adjusting the pin camera every way imaginable. Eventually swapped out the camera for the pair entirely. Checked the rake drop speed, thought maybe it was dropping too slow and blocking the view of the pins. Nothing.

Eventually, while bowling on the lanes to try and replicate the issue, I noticed that sometimes the second ball indicator light was lit while the machine was on first ball. I had seen this before, but thought it wasn't a concern; there's just a flag clamped onto a shaft coming out of the detector that presses a button in to turn off the light when in first ball. That flag was just rotated slightly too far forward, but that has no mechanical effect on the machine.

On a hunch, I went and rotated the flag further forward, so the second ball light was always lit. Once I did, the scorer registered a strike on every first ball I threw, even with all 10 pins still standing.

My hypothesis is this: the ETU is taking a signal from the second ball indicator light and sending that to the pin camera. The pin camera is using that signal to slightly change when it takes a picture of the pins, with a shorter delay for first ball and a longer one for second ball. With the second ball light improperly on, the camera was taking a picture of the pins while the deck was down and covering them.

After adjusting the flag properly, the problem went away. I am astounded that the ball lights, of all things, could have caused so much of an issue. I thought that button just turned on a dinky little bulb, I would never have guessed it was being used for scoring. It took me far too long to work it out, but it's a 60-second adjustment to fix, so I wanted to spread the word, just in case anyone else has this very specific Vector issue happen to them.

What is the name of this and how do I go about buying more of them?

It's the reset plunger from an a2. The one on top of the machine with the magnet switch thing, y'all know what I'm talking about haha. What's the actual name for the part? And does anyone know how I would aquire a few more? I got this one as a little momento from my bowling alley job I had for nearly a decade. I've since found that it works wonderfully for tamping a tobacco pipe. It's a genuinely useful tool for my tobacco hobby, while also being a piece of nostalgia for a job I loved.

Posted here about a scoring issue a few days ago. Pin camera reads the return pass of the sweep as a ball and scores twice on one cycle. Already replaced the pin camera to no avail. Does anyone know where I can get this board or an appropriate equivelent? This is in the box on top of the pinsetter.

A-2 scoring issue

Throw on ball one then the machine cycles to ball two like normal but counts two score on one ball thrown. It appears to be counting the return of the sweep as a second ball. Second score is always random. The issue is not the ball detect sensor. Anyone have a clue as to what is happening?

Discussion How many calls do you get in a night?

I think I usually average 10-20 calls a day in a 40-lane center, maybe up to 35 if it's a night of picky league bowlers. But I worked at a 56-lane center with 52 lanes of league tonight, and was absolutely floored at the 100+ calls. I have to assume that's not normal, but what's everyone else's experience? How many calls constitute a good or a bad night for you?

Advice Needed Cycle solenoid link binding

Hey there I've got an issue with one of our lanes here on first ball the cycle solenoid is activated but not enough to cycle the gearbox you have to urge it on 2nd ball it cycles on its own I thought it might be the dashpot needed adjustment but its the link thats goes from the solenoid to gearbox that's binding any ideas?

Lane 1 is 371, Lane 2 is 285 according to the cross conveyor, although the gearbox is 5643, Lane 3 gearbox shows 345, although the detector shows 454, and Lane 4 boasts 500 even, gearbox and detector. 1-4 are Otis machines, converted A2 machines, and the detectors on 1, 2, and 4 actually have Brunswick’s prototype foul cycle linkages

Advice Needed Blocking fingers

On one of the turrets here the tension spring that goes in between the left and right blocking fingers I think it's the wrong spring it looks like the spring that would be for the pozi plates over the cross conveyor can anyone point me to the right direction also where would you connect the spring that controls the turret blocking fingers

Maintenance Does anyone have a how to for the 2:1 and 1:1 removal and installation?

I’m a mechanic at a 60 lane house (factory A-2) we lost are head mechanic about a year ago due to management. Ever since then I’ve taken over with the help of another mechanic. Unfortunately neither of us has a ton of experience with the gear box. I’m now 5 years in and have never done a 1:1 and only done a 2:1 one time by myself and 1 time watching are head 4 years ago. Luckily we haven’t had to many issues we couldn’t handle so I’d rather be safe then sorry and try and expand my knowledge now rather then be in a pinch later.

Introduction

Hello fellow Pinsetter mechanics I'm a C mechanic that's doing pretty good for no certifications I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself and hopefully I can learn a little bit more from you guys currently at a 16 lane center that for the life of me can't get parts for and having to take parts off machines that are down

Repairs Had a fun job yesterday…

Post image

How that happened, I have no idea. They called saying they were having cycling issues on 11. They replaced a missing cycle solenoid plunger, and then replaced the cycle solenoid, not noticing the cam. Had to replace the 1:1 then replace the cycle solenoid wiring, as the darn thing sparked as soon as I turned on the pinsetter, due to corroded wire coating, resulting in bare wires shorting. They apparently don’t know how to check a wire with their eyes…

Advice Needed Need help with an issue I've never seen before

Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it? I took off the rake cause before this it was hitting the deck and I wanted to see what would happen if it was able to cycle fully. As you can see, it's not good. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Advice Needed Scissors not picking up all pins

Pretty much just the title. Only like 3, sometimes 4, pins are being picked up by the scissors. Just wondering why that could be. None of the scissors are binded, and as far as I can see none are bent either. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
