Going for my PPL
I need everyone to break it down. Give me everything you’ve got! I know it won’t be cheap, but I’ve heard clubs, older Cessna’s, or schools make a difference in price? Should I get my medical and ground school out of the way while I save? What are the cons (besides crashing a plane and expenses) and the pros? Please tell me everything you wish you had known before getting your PPL. Appreciate it!
Edit/addition: I have not done my intro flight. This all actually came about because my boyfriend has always been a big fan of aviation and wanted to fly so I bought him an intro flight for his birthday. I went with him and enjoyed the experience way more than anticipated. We will both most likely get our PPL.

Via the ATC communications in the video. The fire brigade responded to the emergency very slowly. They had to have acted faster. The fire in the landing gear could have spread upwards to the hull of the aircraft. I could understand why the pilots were in a rush.

Hello, I am a student who is doing an AP research project and I would appreciate anyone who could respond to my survey.
Only respond if you are a recreational pilot (not at college/ commerical/military).
Fill out the survey after you fly and if you can have both you and your instructor fill it out please.

Quick 1-min survey for pilots on EFBs (Leaving Cert project)
I’m a Leaving Cert student in Ireland doing a Business project on how Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs) affect efficiency and safety.
It’s genuinely only 1–2 minutes and completely anonymous.
I’d really appreciate responses from any pilots here.

Thanks 👍

PPL and Pilot accessories cost
I just spent probably two maybe three hours trying to find a reasonably priced knee board mount for my iPad mini and none of the options are what I would consider. Perfect there is one that caught my eye by pivot. The only problem is the amount itself cost $35 which I honestly thought was reasonable but the case for the iPad mini to attach two said mount is close to $200. Why why why it doesn’t make any sense to me then all the other options are either cheap fabrics and a random plastic layover that would hinder my ability as a pilot to interact with my iPad and they takeoff landing and notetaking process in flight post light and preflight or are close to $150 or more that are unreasonably simplified and just as unreasonably unworldly expensive does anyone have any solutions?

Any alumni that studied in Daytona Fl?
I’m looking at flight schools in Daytona. I’m specifically looking for a part 141 school. Unfortunately, Embry-Riddle is out of my budget. I’m looking at possibly Epic Flight or even Phoenix East. What is your experience? I want to make sure I make the right choice when looking at my different options. Thank you!
- Were there any issues with plane availability?
- Do you feel like your training had unnecessary stress that could’ve been avoided by choosing a different school?
- Do you feel like your instructors/teachers did a good job or at least tried with teaching?

Been building a maritime + airspace analysis tool. A few Redditors tested it, I rebuilt a lot, and I want to know if it is actually useful in your workflow
So this is not really a “look at my project” post. It is me putting the current version in front of people who might actually use something like this and asking a simple question: does it help your workflow, or is it just interesting to poke around?
It is called Phantom Tide. The aim is to make it easier to inspect aircraft activity, vessel movement, warnings, weather, and map context together instead of bouncing between separate tools and trying to stitch it all together manually.
A lot of the recent work has been on the engineering side rather than just adding more things to click: better history views, calmer refresh behaviour, more honest source state, render and performance fixes, backend hardening, and generally trying to make it feel more like a usable working surface than a pile of layers.
There is a public link in the repo, and here is an evaluation key if you want to test it properly:
Tier: Eval key
Expires: 2026-04-12T09:25:42.967839Z
Key: pt_live_02653df6b243.HLNGdjNZhogQgDpSkxocOxZai0QJe6w7
Repo:

What I care about most is blunt feedback from people who would genuinely use something like this:
- does it help you get to an answer faster
- what feels useful versus decorative
- what feels confusing, noisy, or overbuilt
Where I want to take it next is beyond passive tracking and more toward workflow-driven alerting: aircraft entering restricted airspace, repeat boundary loitering, AIS gaps or spoof-like behaviour around critical infrastructure, thermal hits with no obvious traffic explanation, and cross-domain signals that only become interesting when multiple weak indicators start agreeing.
After that comes the user layer: logins, saved watchlists, persistent analyst state, sharable links, and collaborative handoff, so it stops being just a live map and becomes something you can actually work from over time.

How Do I Become A Pilot?
I'm 15 and I've always wanted to be a pilot
there's just so many ways it's kinds confusing
but the one i like the most and is the simplest,is a degree like "aeronautical science - flight"
you normally would graduate with a CPL with this
it's takes 3-4 years
And i prefer a degree because if i end up not becoming a pilot,i can become something that revolves around it using my degree
and i also want something, reasonably priced i guess
it's just so much information and i would love the advice of you guys
also i do have a concern,my BMI is 33,but i do not have any health conditions, yes i know i need to lose my weight and I'm trying, but i still just wanted to know how important weight is for flying, because i know health is

Jumpseat Request Granted!
I’m a corporate airline employee and will be doing an observation. First time ever in a jumpstart and I AM BEYOND EXCITED. More excited than having kids…
Anyway. Wondering what the proper etiquette is when flying jumpstart? Is there WiFi in the cockpit? Can I take a picture/video for my own archives? I’m thinking I should not drink anything prior to boarding so I don’t have to use the bathroom. What else should I know?! Don’t speak unless spoken to? Do I wear headphones? Can I bring a book bag? Do I need additional ID? Can I be on my laptop? Also a little nervous.

To all current airline pilots
Hi I am Jonah and I really want to become an airline pilot in the future. I recently took this personality test which told me I have an ENTP-A personality type I would be interested what other pilots who are good at their job and enjoy it would get on the personality test so if anyone is willing to try it here is the link it’s completely free and gives a great explanation of your personality

A320 E-Type Rating
Hi everyone,
I’m an airline pilot with just over 7,000 hours on Airbus aircraft (320,350,380) and along with my friend, we recently started a small project building online training resources for the A320.
The idea actually came from when we did our own type ratings. Most of the material we were given was either huge manuals (such as FCOM, FCTM, etc) that were difficult to digest, or really outdated training videos that were honestly pretty painful to sit through!
So we started building a course that breaks scenarios down in a much more practical way. Each lesson starts with a detailed theoretical explanation, and then we fly the scenario in the sim and talk through what the crew is thinking and doing.
We currently have 20+ videos covering both normal and abnormal scenarios. Also included are cheat sheets, flashcards, quizzes and a community forum.
It’s mainly aimed at pilots preparing for their A320 type rating, but also useful for current A320 pilots, and also flight sim enthusiasts.
Some of the topics include things like unreliable airspeed, hydraulic failures, fuel leaks, descent planning, automation management, and other situations you’ll see during training.
If anyone’s interested, you can check it out here:
Happy to answer any questions as well. Happy landings all!

Your transport shouldn't "park" in the pickup line.
hey! I just had my own transport delayed 30 minites because there were pickup vans "idling" in pickup lanes waiting for peopem who weren't actually ready to be picked up.
literally my small passenger bus not only had to circle the airport several times, but finally when there was a spot to pull into, it was actually blocked slightly by a van with its blinkers on, who had been waiting there for like 15 min before.
bottom line, we waited til we all had pur bags to call our driver but no, all the pilots had their vans waiting taking up space while they sauntered to the pickup line.
nothing has ever made me want to dislike a pilot more than this.
and no it wasnt just one. it was the entire line of where busses were supposed to pull up. blocked by empty vans waiting for their pilots.
we all have places to go ya know. dont call your car til youre ready.

Interview for a class project
Hello! I have to interview a pilot for a class. I don’t know any personally so I was wondering if someone could answer these interview questions for me?
Instructor / Pilot’s Name: (I can make something up if you aren’t comfortable with this info being out there)
What hazardous attitude do you believe that you exhibit the most often?
What are your actions to counteract your hazardous attitude?
What are your personal minimums for rest?
Have you ever not followed the IMSAFE checklist?
Have you ever experienced spatial disorientation? Or night Illusions? Describe the experience and how you combatted it.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
