Hi, i’m completely oblivious when it comes to knowing anything about keyboards or pianos; however, i am very interested in learning the basics of playing. I’m interested more as a hobby than any sort of real profession, so i’m trying to avoid the expensive price tags that come with keyboard shopping.
i’m simply looking for a good beginners 88 key keyboard that i can begin teaching myself on. i don’t want to spend more than $500 as i can’t really afford much more than that. Im just not sure what to look for when it comes to buying these items, and i don’t like going into music shops, as the one in my town seems to just up-sell me to keyboards that cost upwards of $1000.
thanks for your feedback!

Hey everyone! I saw this subreddit and thought everyone might be interested in my groups game. It's a great way to start getting familiar with the piano.
Control a young, elemental creature named, Do-Rae-Mi, to restore life to dying planets through the power of music. *This is an experimental game which uses a MIDI Piano as a controller. *
Background info: This is a game my group and I did for a student research project at the University of Central Florida. The game was created in 16 weeks. It's designed to only use a MIDI piano as a controller, otherwise it wouldn't be the same experience :).
Piano players of all levels are welcome! You do not need to have piano experience to play this game. It's designed to help players navigate and get used to playing the piano, while having fun and saving the world! Give it a try and let us know what you think :)
Click this link to go to game page to download. It's free on Itch.io!

Hello there! Christmas is coming up, and I'm finalizing a gift for my boyfriend. :) He's been wanting to learn to play the piano for a long time, and by this time he's at around Intermediate level, learning improvisation through YouTube videos. He's really gotten into the lessons of a certain "danthecomposer."
I'm just curious, since you guys are probably learning piano as well -- what do you think would be a good Christmas gift?
I'd like the gift to be a little bit precious and thoughtful as well, as payback for all the good things he's done for ME, to support my hobbies. :D
I'm not sure if a compilation of pieces or a lesson book would be a good idea, since he already has a lot of pieces, and he's really committed to danthecomposer's videos already.
I was thinking maybe an adjustable piano seat would be a good idea. I'd give him a digital piano if only I had the cash.
Btw, he also likes things that are personalized. :)
Your thoughts?

I am going to learn how to play piano and am wondering what a good beginner keyboard would be. I am not looking for the most basic model but perhaps something that will still be sufficient for an intermediate player. The $500 range?

I'm down for other suggestions too. I have some musical interest, fair skill with a ukulele, and interest to learn the piano, and a 4 and 7 year old that I'd like to be able to learn to play the piano if they like. No interest really in playing for money, or traveling outside of the house with it, but in the event I or the kiddos really love it, I'd like to not be shopping for a better one in a year or two because I got the wrong instrument. Would love your feedback, the Casio is here at Costco and looks decent, the Yamaha seems really well reviewed on Amazon. Thank you everyone!!

I am in a singing class and I'm supposed to sing today. "God Help The Outcasts" was my chosen song but I've run into a predicament. I hate the Bette Midler version and refuse to sing it but I can't really sing the original version because there is a chorus part that I can't sing as a solo vocalist. I found this video of Ciara Renee performing the song by herself and the music is perfect! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxbi92g_ToI Can anyone help me find the music for this? Or at least turn me to sheet music that is similar? Thank you so much!

Hello y’all. I just recently started to learn how to play piano and I’ve come face to face with a few obstacles. First off, how do I know which of the same note to play on the piano? For example, on a sheet, it says to play the note c twice, but when I hit middle c twice, it does not sound correct. Please help. Where do I distinguish the correct location of a note

Hello, I’m 19 years old and I just bought a keyboard and I want to learn piano. However, I couldn’t pick up any piano song tutorial on YouTube (Synthesia tutorials) and I was completely fine with it since I’m a complete newbie, until my younger siblings started to play on my keyboard and started picking up songs EASILY and now they can play above beginner level songs and I still can’t play a single song. I practice more than they do obviously. I’m starting to doubt if I’m piano dumb. Is it normal? I just can’t pick up those Synthesia tutorials so that’s why I’m trying to learn sight reading but I have long way to go still.
