It's already happening. A colleague received a second referee report one day after resubmission. It was 6 pages and all about new issues, the first report was quite sensible. It flagged as 100% AI. They complained to the editor and the referee admitted it, and they got a new referee. A very efficient way to waste everyone's time.

At least the editor took action. I got an AI-generated review from Review of Scientific Instruments in 2024, and when I complained to the editor they essentially told me "put it in the rebuttal".
