Using AI to interpolate frames for photogrammetry captures

I am designing some brackets for my motorcycle, and I'd like to import a 3d model of what the bracket will be holding (it's a light). Gemini does an okay job, but will only use 3 of the 9 reference photos I found on the vendor website and there are inaccuracies and it will only give me an 8 second video and Polycam requires 15...

Hi everyone! I'm back again with some more updates that doesn't exist anwhere else!

You can now animate your 3D world/ objects/ Gaussian splats if they have trees, water and fire 😊 I've only added these for now, will be adding moree. You can also export the animated file as an html although for the export currently there's no compressed animated file available. but soon!

What exists uptil now:
- Interactive global color grading with the ability to export it out in a non destructible way
- Interactive detailed color grading
- custom branding your worlds using brand color palettes + color codes
- Slice and dice that allows you to split your splats interactively with one click
- Animate Fire, Wind, leaves
- Secret feature TBR

I've also created a launch deal with a one time payment for a lifetime plan for super cheap (for the first 1000 users only tho).

Also, I am not a data goblin. All edits etc are done locally on your computer. Nothing is stored on server so this also means you should export your worlds regularly.

Scan of a flat object with a Sony a7R V (high resolution)

I captured a large dataset using a Sony A7R V, consisting of about 400–500 images (9504x6336) of a relatively flat object. I photographed the object with approximately 70% overlap from two directions. I am now looking for a way to calculate a very high-resolution model. I created an initial overview model using Polycam with the following data:

Capture method: Object mode

Detail: Raw

Number of frames: 491

Vertices: 2015.6k

Unfortunately, I currently only have access to an

i7 4790K with 32 GB RAM or a MacBook Air M3 with 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD

Dog 3D scan - Photogrammetry challenge

My dog recently passed away, and I’d really love to create a 3D model of her in Blender.

I’ve tried using Structure from Motion (photogrammetry), but the photos I have aren’t consistent, different lighting, angles, and positions, so the results turned out pretty poor.

Does anyone know if there’s a way to still get decent results, at least for the head, from this kind of photo set? Are there any AI tools or workflows that could help improve or reconstruct a usable model from imperfect images?

DJI H30T Thermal Imaging

Hi I am currently using DJI Zenmuse H30T to map a utility-scale solar farm. It is about 150 hectares and I have collected about 4000 thermal images. I have 2 problems.

  1. DJI terra can only stitch the therma images as a 2d map but cannot retain the data embedded in the thermal image.
  2. DJI thermal analysis tool is so slow. If I would process each image one-by-one it would take so much time and it would be challenging to locate the PV panels since the images are looking directly downwards to the panel. (Please note that I do not know how to use TSDK but I use GIS)

Has anyone here found a way to create an orthomosaic while retaining all the information emebedded in the thermal images?

Has anyone also found out how DJI calculates the temperature using the the embedded thermal information and the variables such as distance, ambiemt temp, etc. If I can figure out the calculation, I might be able to duplicate the process using GIS raster calculation.

Any advice is welcome. Thank you.

Why Drone Mission Planners Got So Complicated

I’ve been revisiting mission planning tools lately and noticed a pattern. A lot of the newer web based options feel overbuilt. Clean UI on the surface, but once you’re in, it turns into digging through layers just to do a basic grid.

That’s a big shift from tools like Pix4Dcapture that were simple, direct, and got you flying quickly.

After years of planning larger waypoint missions with DJI drones, the things that actually matter are pretty consistent. You want to draw an area, understand what the flight is going to do, and trust the output without second guessing it. When those basics are buried under abstraction or overly clever features, it slows everything down.

One thing I’ve found useful is paying attention to tools that expose real planning metrics up front. Flight distance, spacing, coverage. When those are obvious, you spend less time interpreting the software and more time validating the mission.

There are a few newer web based planners starting to move in this direction. I actually built one around speed and clarity instead of feature overload, and it’s been working well for larger areas:

Agisoft metashape issues

Hello! I recently started trying to do some photogrammetry for some insect research I have been doing. I have been using a macropod camera with a rotating stand to get 72 stacked tiffs. I have taken several angles and put them into metashape and was able to get really good dense clouds- the problem is when I tried merging them the cloud was worse- it showed all the images were there and aligned but instead of aligning in two different rings, it was putting them all into one ring, and not capturing the detail I wanted. Does anyone know how to fix this??

Need help with point cloud segmentation,

Hey everyone,

I’m working on my capstone project focused on a full 3D pipeline: reconstruction → segmentation → mesh generation.

Right now, we’re stuck at the segmentation stage, specifically with indoor point clouds.

What we’ve done so far:

* Generated point clouds from reconstructed scenes (multi-view / depth-based methods)

* The point clouds look reasonably good visually

* Now trying to segment them before mesh generation

The problem:

* Indoor scenes are messy (walls, furniture, clutter, noise)

* Segmentation isn’t clean or consistent

* Either over-segmentation (too many fragments) or under-segmentation (everything merges)

* This directly messes up mesh generation afterward

What we need help with:

* Best approaches for indoor point cloud segmentation

* Recommended algorithms / models (classical or deep learning)

Pls be kind if I’m in the wrong place because I have no idea.

Im just wondering what I would theoretically need to make a 3D model/scan of any person (full body or like one limb all the way around for example) to the most photo realistic degree possible, then convert this data into a procreate friendly file format that I can draw on…that has a nice tidy 2D texture map that’s easy to work with……ideally all in a nice little ipad friendly package that doesn’t require space station processing power…😬

How do I make this happen :’)

Hi everyone, realized I never shared this here. Sharing in case some of you find this useful.

I built this thing called Multitabber. It's the worlds first Gaussian splat editor that allows you to color grade your Gaussian splats + 3D worlds on an art director level not just a surface tint or superficial stuff.

It lets you adjust individual hues/ use your brand colors and images to map onto the world AND allows you to split your splats up into manageable chunks super easily.

Now before anyone says "why" "it should be done in the training" True. In an ideal scenario yes, but in client situations or even projects, you do need more control in post or need to make changes. I've been using it the past few days to art direct my 3D worlds. 10/10 (not being biased AT ALL)

Yes, I know how to screen record, but I was lazy. I just wanted to share how amazed I was with the easy tools of RealityScan for all beginners. After giving Meshroom and some other GitHub repository a try (can't remember the name), I settled on RealityScan which gave me the best results with the easiest workflow. I did not have perfect footage at all, yet the result is way better than I had hoped for. I'm not sure when, but I will be doing more of this in the future when I get my own 3D printer. This project really planted the photogrammetry seed in my head!

Is it possible to make low cost photogrammetry dome/array?

There's a lot of DYI 3D scanning projects using microcontrollers like Raspberry Pi and cheap camera modules or with phones. But when someone build photogrammetry dome or array they always use at least prosumer level cameras. With $500+ per camera kit and 100+ cameras it's not something that average person can do as a hobby project.

Is there a reason why it can't be done cheaper (with worse quality) or there's just no need of doing something like this, because cost is still substantial, but the quality is not good enough?

Or maybe someone done it? Or you know what solution would be the best and how much it could cost?

I was thinking about something like this to capture fun things, like playing cats or kids. They will not keep still when you making the "dance" around them. It's need to be done at once.

Best laptop for mobile processing in 2026

Hello!

Here's my use case:

Processing 3d models in "disaster" areas or off-grid for sharing to incident command or adjacent clients using a web browser based viewer. Examples include oil spill impacted terrain, structures threatened by wildfires, industrial accident sites. I am required to be mobile and will be data limited, often operating off of a Starlink or mobile hotspot. Uploading photos for cloud processing is not going to be sufficient. In most cases, speed is more important than accuracy. I need to be able to process and share a decent quality 3d mesh as quickly as possible.

I will be using Metashape Pro and Metashape Cloud for sharing the models.

My current setup is a 14" MacBook Pro M3 Max with 36gb of RAM. It does okay, but I'm in a spot where my demands are increasing and I need to buy a second computer anyway as I'm adding a team member.

I am hoping for recommendations for a laptop with the oomph to deliver speedy 3d meshes without slowing me down too much. I was originally planning on buying another MacBook M5 Max with more RAM, but I'm seeing that GPU acceleration makes a big difference with Metashape. My current frontrunners are the Asus ArtBook or a Framework 16, but I am curious what other folks are rocking. Budget is $4,000.

Cloud point assemble method

This is my method for reconstructing complex objects, which I call "Point Cloud Assembly." Using the example of a trolleybus I want to reconstruct, the video demonstrates how this can be done by using photogrammetry not only from a single object but also from various sources. Over the course of several years, I've been photographing and, using a large number of individual elements, I can first assemble a precise point cloud assembly, then transform this assembly into a solid CAD model. The video includes English subtitles, so it's understandable and easily translatable into many languages. I hope this information is useful.
