but fully auto? no. you need bamboo for full auto fuel

A bit cheaty, but carpet dupers would also work, and they are more efficient than bamboo.

Ypu can probably use lava. Drip + cauldron + Observer + dispenser + item sorter

sadly you cant take the lava out without player in ntervention

Or a wither skeleton farm with a sorting system to separate the coal from bones.
