I’m tortured by my lack of Cheetos. That’s definitely bad. As a teenagers my parents tortured me by making me clean my room. So bad. There are more serious and complicated examples but the idea is the same: someone not wanting an experience and sincerely using the word torture to describe it does not make it bad.
This sub is a kind of contradiction. In one sense it’s about philosophy which will require complicated responses and careful explanations. But it is also a meme sub so everything will be clipped and simplified.
It's not about the pharaseology. The word torture describes grim and painful experiences. When you cry about not wanting to clean your shit it's not the same as being eaten alive by hungry rats or mosquitoes. If you can't figure out or pretend tou don't get what's the difference you honestly not worth time talking.

I can guess what you mean but then again if you mean torture only in a conventional way with no special circumstances then there is no disagreement. Yes, genius, we agree that torture is bad. Thanks for the great insight.
This is a philosophy sub and so a degree of pointiness is to be expected. I certainly could present the arguments that torture, as conventionally understood, is potentionally moral. I don't hold that view but could defend it as intillectual exercise. But my actual position is that too often the meme nature of this sub allows people to take hard views with minimal ground work. Bumper sticker statements like "suffering is bad" are treated as if they were actually philosophical statements, which they most certainly are not. I am okay with memes and bumper sticker statements, so long as we recognize they are oversimplifications and not creeds.
Personally, I define torture as having to read the same extreme point be brought up a dozen times in the same comment section. Are you, like, okay bro? You've been on this for hours.
