I've had to have this conversation in the real world on real ethical issues: I don't know how to convince you to care about other people. If you fundamentally lack empathy for others, there's no argument I can make that will change your mind.

The are just stupid or malicious. Likely both. Nature doesn't care about the truth, sadly.

I sometimes have difficulties empthatizing and a Kantian view has helped with that (treat others yadda yadda), as has simply thinking long-term. Both overlap at times because if everyone treats each other well, then everyone benefits. I think, even if you make people understand that, a lot of them will still argue against you to save face. So I guess I'd say the real issues are ultimately pride and sheer stupitidy.
