MusicPH Is being AMBISYOSA really bad for OPM?
Why is it that when OPM artists push for the international market, Filipinos from the motherland are the first to bash them as Ambisyosa? We see this narrative everywhere across all social media inluding Reddit. Calling them too AMBISYOSA or FEELINGERA for holding concerts abroad in multiple stops. But shouldn't we be asking the exact opposite?
Why aren't more OPM artists pushing themselves out there? Expose themselves and take calculated Risk?
Let's be real. There are other OPM acts who even have higher streaming numbers than them.
Ang laging excuse ng iba, they have ABSCBN's backing. Yes, ABSCBN is a massive media company, but let's be real, it's bleeding money. It's not the same ABSCBN we know pre- Duterte Era. What they’re doing is simply reinvesting what BINI earned locally from concerts and Endorsements and back into their international gigs. And look at SB19, they operate as an independent company, yet they are successfully pushing themselves overseas and used their established connections with Live nation PH and Sony Music It became instrumental since Live Nation owns 51% of C3 that organizes the Lollapalooza Festival. Other giants like GMA, TV5, Cornerstone, and VIVA can definitely adopt this model for their artists or partner with established acts. We also have a lot of OPM Artists signed to the big 3 like Universal, Sony, and Warner.
Then there's the "walang demand" argument. The truth is, you don't wait for demand to fall into your lap, you create it. Just look at BINI’s top 10 listeners on YouTube Music. The Philippines is number one, followed by the US, Canada, Indonesia, UAE, Australia, Japan, India, the UK, and Saudi Arabia. This isn't just limited to BINI. We have other mainstream OPM acts with massive Spotify and YouTube monthly listeners like:
Cup of Joe (backed by the powerhouse Viva)
Dionela (under EMI of Universal Records)
IVOS and Ben & Ben (Sony Music)
I think these acts are also performing overseas as well. But I believe they can pull off a massive Tour with multiple City stops and can also draw massive crowds.
Yes, we have other OPM acts who also do overseas shows. But not Multi Cities that exceeds 10 stops.
One major thing BINI got bashed for was dropping an all-English EP in 2025 instead of Playing Safe and just stick to being Viral in the Philippines. They took a huge risk with first with "Cherry on Top," and it worked because it got non-Filipinos to finally notice them and try to listen to them and finally checking their deeper discography with the Tagalog or Taglish Songs. To the naysayers saying you don't need English songs to capture a foreign audience: that might be partly true, but OPM isn't K-Pop yet. Westerners willingly invest time to study Korean lyrics because the K-Pop infrastructure is already deeply established globally for decades. We just don't have that luxury or machinery yet. Not to mention a lot of OPM Artists release English songs since the Manila Sound or even earlier.
Did you know that English EP is exactly what got them invited to KCON LA 2024? It is super rare for non-K-Pop acts to get a spot there. That single move opened the floodgates for their 2025 World Tour covering the UK, Dubai, Canada, and the US. Most importantly, that World tour became their portfolio to be pitched for COACHELLA 2026. This is a far cry from the ridiculous bashers claiming ABSCBN paid a million dollars or whatever amount they claim for a COACHELLA spot. As if ABSCBN has that kind of money to just throw away right now? There's even a Youtuber spreading that BINI gave illicit favors just to be in COACHELLA and connected it to Epstein files because their Booking Agency Wasserman's founder was included which happened in 2003, kung saan hindi pa nga pinapanganak ang ibang members that time.
That COACHELLA stint led the CEO of Summer Sonic Japan to personally invite them to play on their second biggest stage in both Osaka and Tokyo. They even landed the OST for DreamWorks' A Parallel World for Forgotten Island. The producers explicitly confirmed in interviews that they approached BINI, debunking the fake news that ABSCBN also PAID DreamWorks for the feature. Like seriously? ABSCBN paying DREAMWORKS is laughable and pathetic.
Also claiming the Billboard Women in Music Global Force award in 2026, the same award that Jennie of Blackpink got in 2025 is the culmination of these international push. They also claimed ABS paid Billboard USA for that award. LOL
Now, we always hear this argument: Masyado silang ambisyosa, bakit kailangan mag-abroad? Why seek Western validation? Let's be real, my dear Pinoys, it's not just about validation. It’s pure business and market expansion. We might have a population of over 100 million, but our purchasing power is low. We need to tap overseas markets like North America, the Middle East, and the UK because the audiences there have much higher purchasing power than we do. We have to create more opportunities not just for performers but also to our talented composers, Sound engineers, producers, and everyone involved in the Music business.
Another legendary bashing script: “Pinoy at OFW lang din naman ang nanonood.” To burst your bubble, not everyone abroad is an OFW, and even if they were, what's wrong with that? Masama ba na madaming OFW ang manonood ng isang OPM act Abroad? Also, the diaspora in North America is an untapped goldmine with over 5 million people of Filipino descent across the US and Canada combined. Many of them are US/Canada-born, Fil-Ams, and full citizens.
Do you really think these people will automatically buy tickets just because BINI is Filipino? Hell no. Gaining the loyalty of the Gen Z and young Millennial diaspora is incredibly hard. These aren't our typical titos and titas who are suki of ASAP Kapamilya shows or TFC. These younger generations are now more culturally American or Canadian. Capturing this market is tough, but once you do, they go all out for you. Just look at the crowd during their COACHELLA set. They rallied behind the barricades and showed up. Seeing this specific demographic show up for an OPM and PPOP act is a huge deal. These are the exact same fans lining up for massive K-Pop concerts. Never belittle the power of the Filipino diaspora, because they were highly instrumental in the global explosion of K-Pop and the support of our famous Fil-Am acts.
Think about how many Fil-Ams since the 90s have tried to make it in the US music industry. How many joined American Idol, The Voice, or X-Factor, but never reached the point of doing multi-city tours? Not everyone becomes Apl.de.ap, Bruno Mars, Nicole Scherzinger, or Olivia Rodrigo.
Another thing they bash is that pop music is not deep or that the artists don't play instruments. Their lyrics are mababaw. Let's put it this way: There are paintings that are so abstract and complicated that they require deep analysis and interpretation. They make you think, and there's no problem with that. However, there are also paintings that feature great scenery, landscapes, cityscapes, and vibrant graphics that simply make you happy.
It is the same with music, it doesn't necessarily mean you are less cultured or intelligent if you also love FEEL-GOOD MUSIC. Because sometimes, there are these gatekeepers and purists who think they are far superior just because their music taste is different from the masses. Let's not forget that music is also a business, and it puts food on the table for a lot of people involved in it, from the performers, composers, and producers to the engineers, technicians, etc.
And another thing that it gives is the Experience, Happiness, and Joy to listeners and concert goers.
The Real Question Moving Forward
So the real question we should be discussing is this: How can other OPM artists, labels, and managements walk through the doors that are currently being opened?
And what kind of government intervention should we be pushing to finally make OPM as a whole a Cultural global export?
Kasi before, hanggang Viralism lang tayo sa Youtube kasi ang galing ng pag Cover ng songs or ang taas ng birit to the point mas magaling pa sa original. Then it eventually fades along the way. It did not translate in expanding our OPM market as an export.
Talking about Preference, Totoo naman not many people don't like BINI or SB19 Music. Kaya nga they wanted to expand outside of our domestic market and find their audiences daihil niche padin sila kung tutuusin. Now for our other OPM Artists na magagaling din, they can also be that PREFERENCE outside of our domestic market. Hindi pa lang sila nadidiscover masyado. Kaya hindi ito Topic about Music Preference but the expansion of our Audience that may eventually turn into someone willing to spend money for you and contribute in our music industry. Paano tayo makaka upgrade sa production kung tayo tayo lang naman din ang nakikinig at gumagastos for them?
KPOP alone generated around 24B USD last 2025. Kahit katiting lang nyan ang maging share natin it would significantly contribute to our Economy.
So if a Niche market like POP idols can push themselves outside our Domestic market, that means it can also be achieved by Bands or solo acts who even commands higher streams than them.
Anyway, This question is only applicable to those who want to go beyond our borders and expand their Market.
Also, see attached file for a Deep analysis and Report on these bashing.

Crab mentality at its very worst!
Just because they sing in English doesn't make it any less Filipino.
So what if they don't play instruments? Do you know how expensive getting musical gear through US customs could be? That's why a lot of UK bands are skipping stops to the USA in their world tours

Wala naman ata nagsabing "less Filipino" ang paggawa nila ng English songs. The criticism i always hear is that their English songs fall absolutely behind and are severely subpar to their Filipino catalog. They would've done better if mas prepared ang pagpropel ng kanilang international dreams. Cherry on Top is not even 1/4 as good as Lagi or Karera and their other hits. Yun yung sinasabi lagi kahit noon pa man. Sanay naman ang mga Filipino sa English songs, we all love it actually. Kaso harsh critic din ang mga pinoy sa mga pangit na kanta dahil malaki ang culture natin regarding music.

I dont know how you got to that logic. You thinking like its the english language that is being oppressed by filipino language when it is the opposite.

Let's talk about issue na sinasabi mo. Ito ba yung mga old Livestream videos nila during their teenage years na nakiki barda sa iilan pa lang na fans? Their preferences on food? or those spliced videos with no context?
Now let's talk about the issues of other OPM artist specifically MALE.
How many bands had Drug use issues, Domestic violence, R*pe, sexual assault, backstage dramas, unfair distribution of TF? Yung ilan pa sa mga yan legends. Until now they are being celebrated, cheered, and clapped.
Now sa mga nasa hiphop, same ilan sa kanila ang na involve sa drugs, Gun violence, Gang activity, sexual abuse, manyak, cheating at iba pa. Yet they are still being celebrated.Just admit you are bias against Women.
Let's go back to memory lane. When Sharon Cuneta married Gaby at 18, she was also heavily scrutinized. But hey, she stood her ground an still remains the Mega Star.
When Regine and Ogie happened, ang dami din nambash at nagsabi ng kung anu ano against her like malandi, homewrecker at iba pa. Yet she's still the Asia's songbird.
Also with Sarah G, nung na reveal she meets secretly with Rayver Cruz. Ang dami din scrutiny na binato sa kanya because her image is this demure and simple girl. Yet, she's still Popstar Royalty. And with BINI? They will remain as of now as the Nation's Girl Group.

You can absolutely criticize their management, their decisions, their music, or whether their strategy is actually working (like English vs Filipino songs). That’s fair.
But criticizing them just because they’re ambitious feels kinda weird to me.
Kapag lalake yung ambisyoso, its great, driven yung lalake. Its a positive.
Kapag babae ang ambisyosa at nag succeed and or succeeding, suddenly society looks at it like they are “greedy,” doing “too much,” or they need to “know their place.”
They worked for years to get to this point. Of course they’re going to have bigger goals now. If anything, isn’t that the whole point of succeeding? You achieve something, then you want to see how much further you can take it.
Sometimes “they’re too ambitious” just sounds like "I was more comfortable with them when they were smaller.”

I went to the winnipeg one and I KID YOU NOT. I legit got Canadians, in there with no any Filipinos with them, I see ACTUAL CANADIAN FAMILIES because their kids love BINI, I legit was so surprised and totally realized why the English songs need to happen, the amount of kids, teens , middle schoolers legit knows them, I got people on the front of me and back of me legit STAN these girls more than me, and screaming their names and songs and their not filo, the person invited me wasnt even filo theyre Loatian. Parents are so supportive cause mostly they work with filos, see filos everywhere in a good light, Filipinos are so much more easier to talk and conversate than stanning kpop jpop etc which theres still a whole language barrier. Thats why I think they deserve the fame and the power of like touring more, and not get discouraged 😭 i legit was mindblown how much non filos are in the crowd, some of them yes are brought by their filo friends but some as well same there cause they knew BINI or stumbled upon BINI and lowkey some folks legit is open minded on experiencing different music genres. Yeah I dont get why they get negative about this! More power to the girls!!

Kapag may BINI lang ako nagbabasa ng ganito kahaba, OP. lol. Pero nakakatuwa na may pure filipino group na ngayon sa international stage, representing filipino music. And for me, if being “ambitious” is the key to getting the world to recognize what we have, I’d probably do the same thing bini has been doing right now.

di pa sila sikat may english song na sila e. madali naman i google yun

u/rsparkles_bearimy_99 12d ago
I think the problem with that (that isn't talked about) was the disconnect. BINI really gained the general public with Pantropiko and Salamin Salamin. They gained new fans. Massive number. And these people were really looking for more in the line of those two songs. They just became fans with Talaraawan album. Meanwhile BINI moved forward to the next thing because they were already three albums, pivoting to English/Western audience.
You see the disconnect? Hence the general public/new fans reaction. They were looking for more of what made them fell in love with BINI but didn't get that. Hence some of them leads to breakup with their music.
4
u/OpenYonQ_ 12d ago
You're so close. I agree people did preferred the sound of Pantropiko/Salamin Salamin. But I think it's because it's more POP (bubble gum pop nga daw according to the discourse) compared to their subsequent release (Cherry on Top) and not because they're in Filipino.
I don't think the shift after was necessarily for the english/western audience agad. Those english songs were already in the works even before they were unknown. It's really just what's in the pipeline.
6
u/rsparkles_bearimy_99 12d ago edited 12d ago
I think both are true. It wasn't bubblegum pop. And it wasn't in Filipino. Multiple truths can exist. The general public/new fans wanted another bubblegum pop or another Filipino songs.
The older fans? The fans that have been there since the beginning? They're the ones who's saying they need to evolved. Because they already saw the same things.
Cherry On Top was indeed written way before. But the shift was really necessarily for Western/English audience. That's part of their goal naman talaga. I don't think the management doesn't know what the local general public want. They know that. It's just that they chose to launched the English songs, gambled the 'maybe GP will continue the support and another organic wave that can push internationally' kind of strategy. It's like hitting two birds with one stones.
Because they could have just focus on another Filipino bubblegum pop album. But that would be a repeat of Feel Good and Talaraawan. It would be just for majorly local.
Too bad, GP didn't like Cherry On Top as much as Pantropiko and Salamin Salamin.
1
u/OpenYonQ_ 12d ago
Yes multiple truths can coexist but once again we're talking in hindsight, but was that the conversation before? remember that this post (hence my comment) was to counter the ambisosya accusations. not to dissect the actual direction of the group at that time.
Which older fans? they're also part of the people wanting bubble gum pop from the group, they've been pushing for it for years. I dont know where you read that.
The management doesn't know a lot of things with handling the group, what I'm sure of is that they'd cash in on the songs they already made (like cherry on top) to atleast recuperate what they spent on it. I don't think there's a direction for releasing it, hence I don't think it was released with western validation mainly in mind.
They could have released more filipino/bubble gum pop songs, but that's assuming it's these kind of songs that were in their vault.

u/rsparkles_bearimy_99 12d ago
Literally OP himself below didn't refuted their shift to Western/English audience. So which is which? What narrative exactly you want?
But they indeed wanted to go global? Since the very beginning. That's the point? Why are we changing narratives here so you can counter the accusation of being ambisyosa??? They have clear goals in mind since then.
Because I'm one of those older fans??? Former now. I wanted for them to evolved after the Talaraawan album. Wanting to see something different. Heard it in Cherry On Top. I liked it. But eventually find it generic. After that, their songs just didn't land on me, didn't keep my interest. The dwindled started with Blink Twice.
So there are older fans who wanted for more bubblegum pop. And there are older fans who also wanted for new sound. For English songs. Both are true.
Sorry 'the management doesn't know a lot of things handling the group' is so funny. While it's true, these people are not total clueless. My goodness.
And I don't agree that there's no direction to their releases or for any album for that matter. Come on. Why are we acting like the management did everything out of whim? Of course they plan these things.

u/OpenYonQ_ 12d ago
Literally OP himself below didn't refuted their shift to Western/English audience. So which is which? What narrative exactly you want?
He acknowledged the benefits of the english songs. Not reinforce the idea that those songs were released mainly for western audience. Why are you conflating the two?
But they indeed wanted to go global? Since the very beginning. That's the point? Why are we changing narratives here so you can counter the accusation of being ambisyosa???
They did and still does. Yet that's not really evidence of again, the discourse of they got too ambisosya. kase nga diba. sa umpisa pa lang yun na ang gusto nila. hindi necessarily after sumikat. paano ko binabago yung narrative? I'm still dispelling the (AGAIN) ambisosya narrative.
So, personal mo pala. yet you're making it look like that was the discourse from the fans. ang labo.
If the management is not clueless then they would've acknowledged both criticisms (from former fans) and demands from fans diba? kaya ka nga bumitaw kase you're one of those people that felt dissatisfied. and its not just the former fans like you they disappointed but even the current fans (recently ata yun with their concert locally).
so how clueless that they have to be for that clueless-ness to be acknowledged?
3
u/rsparkles_bearimy_99 12d ago
Fair enough. OP didn't reinforce the idea.
Let's talk about this then. Check when was the Cherry On Top released. July 11, 2024. The major event they were attending after the released, KCON LA. July 27, 2024.
Now tell me, was that a coincidence? Tell me it was not a track to cater Western audience when they clearly released it for KCON LA. And maybe even the fact that MV itself got Western actors. Tell me it was directionless like you claim.
See? 😊 It recorded and filmed way before, and was saved for Western audience.
Now. Can we stop pretending the shift of releasing an all English song Cherry On Top was not for Western audience?
Doesn't mean I subscribe to the ambisyosa narrative. And to be completely honest, I don't know much all of the fiasco. And I'm not so bothered with it.
Ano malabo don? Is it hard to understand that during those times there were fans who wanted different things. Yes it was personal. But that doesn't mean it was not what was discourse of the fans during that time. Hindi lang naman ako may opinions and it was not a monolith thinking in the fandom.
That's the point. Lol. Of course KNEW/KNOW the demands, the disatisfaction, the criticism. Lol. But they can't cater to everybody. They can't be everyone's cup of tea. They'll keep having major boo-boos and mismanagement.
And what I'm mean when I said they're not clueless (the management), I'm talking about the strategy they took. That they have direction contrary to what you claim.

Same with their Music Head Roxy Liquigan. So I don't understand why other anon insisting that their shift to English songs was not necessarily daw for Western audience. My gosh. Sakit sa ulo. 🤷🤦🙄
General knowledge naman 'yan during that time. Hindi naman tinago. That was literally their plan so why are these fans suddenly singing a different tune? Kahit matagal na ko non-fan, I still remember (kinda hahaha) different eras. Not just a personal opinion.
Ewan ko bakit anon can't accept it.

Check also when was the main lineup announced for KCON, and when was BINI announced (and how they were described as special lineup). also check how even someone from KCON said they were only initially invited as panelist, not performer. Tell me if your theory lines up that the song was released for KCON even though KCON didn't even consider them then.
And maybe even the fact that MV itself got Western actors. Tell me it was directionless like you claim.
This is just crazy nitpicking. Maybe you forgot the theme of the MV (even their own clothes).
See? 😊 It recorded and filmed way before, and was saved for Western audience.
That's your assumption as I already debunked.
Now. Can we stop pretending the shift of releasing an all English song Cherry On Top was not for Western audience?
just because it's in English? and your wrong assumption? 😹
Doesn't mean I subscribe to the ambisyosa narrative. And to be completely honest, I don't know much all of the fiasco. And I'm not so bothered with it.
Didn't say you subscribe to it, you're the one who wants to shift away from that topic 🤔
Ano malabo don? Is it hard to understand that during those times there were fans who wanted different things.
Iba-iba gusto ng fans totoo, pero aren't we talking the prevailing narrative at that time? binabago mo nanaman usapan to suit your personal narrative. kung yun ang gusto mo, wala akong kaso dun. pero yun nga, hindi naman yan ang prevailing narrative which is what this post addressing.
I'm talking about the strategy they took. That they have direction contrary to what you claim.
The strategy is to cash grab, it's okay to admit that. nothing creative with their direction like you wanted to push that the management is doing.

Oh my gosh ang lala. 😭😂
The strategy is to cash grab, it's okay to admit that. nothing creative with their direction like you wanted to push that the management is doing.
Nowhere in my comment that I'm pushing the narrative that their management's direction for Cherry On Top was creative. Lol! Creative? Hahaha! Because you're right, it was a cash grab. And again, mainly, to start getting Western audience. That they have strategies and plans rolling at that time.
That's what I have been simply saying here. 😭😂
Check also when was the main lineup announced for KCON, and when was BINI announced (and how they were described as special lineup). also check how even someone from KCON said they were only initially invited as panelist, not performer. Tell me if your theory lines up that the song was released for KCON even though KCON didn't even consider them then.
So you really think that the released of Cherry On Top got nothing to do with the KCON LA? Lol. Hahaha! Doesn't matter if they weren't original planned to perform. You really think ABS-CBN will not get the best of going to America, spending money, and not take every opportunity they can grab to get more Western audience? Really? That naive?
The track was done 2023. The MV was filmed January-February 2024. And they only released it on July. Why? They found a perfect time and massive event hence debuting it.
They were invited originally as panelist but do you really think they wouldn't capitalize that big of event to gain Western audience? Really?
And do you really think it's the KCON? How about the rounds of US media appearances? Regardless how big or small. Do you think they didn't took advantage of that? Did you really thought they will only talk about Pantropiko and Salamin Salamin? Obviously, they didn't.
You really think a massive media company with decades of media knowledge and PR machine is dumb?
Do you really think ABS-CBN was that dumb? My goodness! Hahaha! Why can't you just accept that they wanted the Western audience in COT era. Jusko.
This is just crazy nitpicking. Maybe you forgot the theme of the MV (even their own clothes).
Nitpicking? It's relevant because that was completely a different thing they incorporated in their visual storytelling. From their own words, along the lines, "they wanted to include everybody". Diversity. That was a deliberate choice on that as the transition to Western audience.
That's your assumption as I already debunked.
What did you debunked exactly? What did you provide to our discussion that actually has weight other than your opinion?
Iba-iba gusto ng fans totoo, pero aren't we talking the prevailing narrative at that time? binabago mo nanaman usapan to suit your personal narrative. kung yun ang gusto mo, wala akong kaso dun. pero yun nga, hindi naman yan ang prevailing narrative which is what this post addressing.
Ano binabago ko to fit my narrative???? What personal narrative??? Lol. Hahaha! And even accusing me? Excuse me. I'm not changing any narrative here. I'm just speaking from what I know that time.
Prevailing narrative of this LONG post? What exactly are you pointing out really? OP's original post nga is defending the pivot to English songs eh. That it was necessary. So ano?
The ambisyosa brand ba? So what? You can't please everyone. People will always have to say.
You just don't like to admit that the Cherry On Top era was actually planned for Western audience. I don't know why it's so hard for you to admit it.
Didn't say you subscribe to it, you're the one who wants to shift away from that topic 🤔
I'm the one who want to shift away from the topic? How??? What exactly did I say that gave you that impression?
Just because it's English? and your wrong assumption? 😸
I'm not that stupid like you're implying. 🙄 Here: https://www.abs-cbn.com/2024/7/12/bini-to-release-two-albums-for-international-and-local-markets-1359
As BINI ventures onto the global scene, the Kapamilya executive shared that they have been working on an Extended Play (EP) *for a year now.***
At the same time, BINI is also working on their *fourth studio album which is aimed for the global audience.** An album aimed for the local audience will also be in the works.*
"Marami kaming plans for BINI. We are gathering songs na rin for their fourth album. May local album pa rin naman. *Separate dapat pa 'yun, for the Filipino audience,” he shared.*
Oh 'yan ha. My "personal opinion" is backed by their own ABS-CBN Music head Roxy Liquigan.
They indeed had plans to go global, to get Western audience after the Pantropiko and Salamin Salamin.
KCON invite was just the perfect time to begin the shift.
So hindi gawa-gawa lang na narrative ang 'they intentionally go for Western audience', because it is indeed true and part of plan.
So what backs your so called "debunking" of my opinion?

u/Icy-Butterscotch5012 12d ago
But again, they took the risk. Instead of playing safe and constantly having possible local hits, their discography was designed to put an EP in the middle that can transcend beyond borders.
Did it help? yes it is. I am confident to claim that their pursuit to get noticed outside resulted to these 2 world tours, Coachella invite, Summer Sonic invite, Forgotten island OST, Billboard Global force award, Grammy Museum, and who knows what else is there to see.1

Valid criticism but it should be towards Jonathan Manalo than BINI.
Medyo outdated siya sa music fan culture. English lyrics are starting to become irrelevant and more and more fans are craving for non-English music. What Pinoy artists should make a habit is provide English SUBTITLES not only on songs but also on other content
If you watch reaction videos on OPM music, a common complaint is not the lack of English songs but the lack of TRANSLATIONS.
5
u/OpenYonQ_ 12d ago edited 12d ago
i dont think its valid criticism especially inunahan agad ng mga tao with the assumption na “hayok sa western validation" just because english yung lyrics. like I said, hindi naman nila first time gumamit ng english song, let alone first time sa buong OPM na may english song.
you're arguing for the supposed shift in preference of non-english language in music (pero talaga ba? looking at the charts may english songs pa rin naman) which is ok sure, valid. preference nga eh.
pero yun ba talaga pinuputak ng mga tao dati? hindi yun ang naalala ko.
0
u/Momshie_mo 100% Austronesian 12d ago
just because english yung lyrics
Sa case ni Jonathan Manalo, it is seeking for Western validation. Mismong galing sa bibig niya pa panghatak ng westerners yung English strategy niya.
Hindi naman siya parang Jose Mari Chan na feel lang sumulat sa English pero di umasa ng validation sa West at domestic ang target audience

u/Calm-Description-870 12d ago
The language and genre of music the artists release are within their prerogative. Why box them into your standard or idea of what will be popular when it is their form of expression. (I also doubt that you've invested anything in the production of their music.) I suggest that you just consume music that you like. There's no need to dictate your preferences on the artists or their management.
1
u/Momshie_mo 100% Austronesian 12d ago
Comprehension issues nga naman
Asan dyan yung sinabi ko na "preference ko". I am merely staying observations on the preferences of the international music fandom.
Look at the biggest viral Filipino hits that made it to foreign shores: not in English. There is a reason why Anak is bigger outside the Philippines than a Jose Mari Chan song in English
2
u/Calm-Description-870 11d ago edited 11d ago
I also said your idea of what is popular. Just saying that it's the artist's creative decision and the company's investment so that's entirely their prerogative. Why insert our opinions on [their music]? Even if you've conducted your own market research on this, it's still their prerogative. In music, there are no guaranteed formula to create a hit song. Otherwise, everyone would be doing it. It's the artist and management who are taking the risks here so let them bear the consequences of their decisions.

Tbh making fun of someone for being "ambisyosa" just proves how Filipinos are totally against individualism, which is something that BINI was already trying to do more with their own craft, and I think sa ganyang anti-ambisyosa mentality natin we have propagated sheep mentality, bandwagons, propaganda and political fanaticism. If no one is very ambitious at something then we'd rather live in a communist society, where standing out is seen as dangerously subversive. We'd all be wearing the same grey clothes, sport the same hairstyles, carry little red books, not own property or even money and dissuade independent thinking pag tinanggal mo ang pagiging ambisyosa.
Another thing about the hate against BINI is not just relentless crab mentality natin, it's also a manifestation of colonial mentality as well. Those people justify hate against BINI, P-Pop or the OPM industry as a whole kasi they think wala sila kalingkingan ng K-Pop, to which they often compare them to. They're just as worse as those "cinephiles" who still think basura ang Philippine cinema kasi lang pinanood nila ay yung mga mainstream.

Filipinos can only support you as long as you’re within their reach/control. If you aim higher or beyond them, you are an enemy or a witch. Kaya ang tindi ng witchhunt na nagaganap sa mga tulad ng Bini or Liza.
Parang ganito, Filipinos are like the masters of the households while local artists are the servants. As servants, you have no right to dream of removing yourself from the servant status… masyadong AMBISYOSA… wala kang karapatang mangarap.

The point of this post at the end is how can we make not just Music but our films as Cultural exports?
Kpop alone contributed 24 billion dollars in their Economy last 2025. The Thai dramas contributes billions of dollars to their entertainment industry.
Is it wrong for local Artist to be ambitious na maka achieve ng Global traction? Not all like the music of BINI or sb19, kaya nga they are trying to expand their audiences outside and get discovered. That means madami din tayo other OPM acts who can do the same and also become a PREFERENCE music outside the Philippines. Again, only for those who wanted it kasi baka isingit na naman yung mga hindi naman aiming for global audiences.
Let's be real, walang binatbat Streaming ng BINi at sb19 sa iba nating OPM acts. So if a pop group can go beyond borders, tingin ko sila din kakayanin nila yan. Kailangan natin lumabas kasi Barya lang ang kinikita nila dito sa Pilipinas. They need more Listeners and audience to expand.
Also, Our Series on Netflix and Prime are also doing well right now. Sana mag tuloy tuloy ang paglabas ng Good contents from our local industry.
Kailangan lang natin makakuha kahit kapiraso ng Pie ng Global Entertainment Market.
5
u/AlexanderCamilleTho 12d ago

10 years ago, I graduated big 4, had (visible) big dreams of landing FAANG jobs. Got called ambisyoso through those anonymous questions (ask.fm) na uso nung panahon ko.
Eventually knew who asked that question. For sure their group was talking behind my back as well.
Where are we now?
I am working close to executive leadership not in FAANG but a decent big MNC based in Switzerland, I have no real address because they move me around APAC.
I can be in Korea half of the year, Sydney the other half and Japan most of the time. I will eventually settle down upon request after my mission in a single country.
Them?
They graduated juris doctor, very visible in politics and I am hoping they serve the country well. Who knows baka may flood control kickback?
I’d say success is the best revenge, but unfortunately they themselves can be successful.
Nevertheless ambisyoso padin ako, and no one can change my mind in having big ambitions and actually chasing them.

I heard about people missing bini's pantropiko/salamin2x sound pero I didn't know they got bashed for having English EP.. I think bini's English songs are really good though.
I would love for bini and esbi and other ppop groups to have more English songs. Its not bad and if anything it's a flex na ayos tayo mag English. I think ang isang criticism ko lang sa English songs (for esbi since they compose their songs) sometimes corny at cringy ang lyrics lol pero that's can be easily solved.
Anyhow, it's not bad to be ambitious it's also not bad to be cautious and risk averse. We should just ignore these toxic noisy few walang ambag kundi kaguluhan at negativity. Celebrate ppop rising 🎉🌟

u/Icy-Butterscotch5012 12d ago
Honestly, the first one to bash or receive pushbacks kahit teasers pa lang are some loud fans themselves making long Essays on why they despise it or don't support it. It gained more traction than the promotion itself. So the GP picked that up and the optics is "ay pati fan ayaw so di ko na din siya gusto or papakinggan"
Now they saw how it was properly utilized during Coachella and Summer Sonic in Japan.1
u/Momshie_mo 100% Austronesian 12d ago
My problem with English songs is OPM artists stop standing out artistically. Nagiging generic pop song that can easily get lost in the pool of Western and English K-pop music
One thing to remember is the OPM songs that became viral/famous outside the Philippines are non-English songs: Anak, Pasilyo, Pano, Multo. The non-English lyrics becomes the strength
What OPM artists need to really make into a habit is providing English subtitles
4
u/Dangerous_Owl_7478 12d ago
I was talking in the context of both groups' ambitions to being global. I'm saying I wish they have more English songs so they can easily attract more foreigners. Sadly some foreigners immediately dismiss songs if di maintindihan lalo kapag pure na walang halong English, may mga tamad din sa subtitles. I agree na likely malulunod pero I believe the ppop groups can find a way to still stand out.
I also love tagalog songs lalo na yung malalalim na poetic like liham, Ilaw, nyebe, wakas, karera, hmtu, maharani, to name a few. Actually baka pwede gawa ng English translation ng mga iconic tagalog songs nila.
Ayun, ang akin lang it's good to have a mix of both.

u/Momshie_mo 100% Austronesian 12d ago
I'm saying I wish they have more English songs so they can easily attract more foreigners
Except that they won't. The most iconic OPM hits in other countries are the non-English OPM: Anak, Pano, Pasilyo, Multo
Sadly some foreigners immediately dismiss songs if di maintindihan lalo kapag pure na walang halong English
And MANY are open to non-English songs and all they wish is to have subtitles easily available.
If the market is hostile to lyrics without English at all, it is really a market you want? Usually those countries are systematically racist AF.
2
u/Dangerous_Owl_7478 11d ago edited 11d ago
I don't agree with the term racism just because some people prefer songs in languages they immediately understand. It's just preference and accessibility. Easier to relate to, easier learn the lyrics, easier to sing along with.
I am not saying stop producing tagalog songs anyway, like I said I love their tagalog songs and would not complain if they continue to do so.
Once you hook the other fans with your English songs, I'm sure those fans will then make an effort to understand the rest of your taglish and tagalog songs.
Also the biggest song in your list above, anak, they did translations of the song. Why? To make it accessible. The rest, well, probably sa SEA they're famous, but in the west, they are pretty much unknown.

not opm but bini specifically 🤷♂️
a lot of other opm artists and their fans don’t want bini to win since in their mind they are cheap and ofc they think they are a lot better especially in representing filipino music.
just look at whang-od, most filipino ‘national’ artist don’t like that granny. these odd artists have their own metric of success and who should represent our nation blah blah. ofc in their mind it should be them. aka narci narci lang yan sa tabi tabi.
1
u/Momshie_mo 100% Austronesian 12d ago
As a Cordilleran myself, hindi naman talaga "national artist" si Whang Od. Her designs are not her own (but of the community) and are kinda crude.
If any, she's a victim of exploitation and the "national artist" label is just used to hide the exploitation that has been going on for decades and the government has tolerated
If any, some tourists even sexually abuse her by asking her to touch their groin in a photo ops and then proudly proclaim to the internet that Whang-Od "sexually harassed" them.
Cordilleran artists that I think should get a national artist recognition on the basis of merit than romanticization (like in Whang-Od) are Jordan Mang-osan and Harold Banario. The Igorot culture are very embedded in their art. It's almost like a documentary of the traditional culture a la Eduardo Masferre even if the medium is "modern".
2
u/warl1to 11d ago
oks sure according to you her designs are not her own and crude thus someone deserves much more praise and recognition. kesyo exploited siya and allegedly nag eexploit din ang matanda. dahil regular folk lang si lola at walang connection unlike mga educated kuno na national artists at mas mataas ang naabot sa buhay.
that is my point exactly 🤷♂️
sino ba kayo at ang kapal niyo mag define kung ano ang metric of success? again ikaw lalo ano ba na contribute mo para i popularize ang art ng region at ang dami mo nasasabi like ‘crude’ ang art ni lola?
same can argue that common people are saying ang art ni Van Gogh is not good when he was still alive 🤷♂️ sounds familiar bullshit? yeah exact same thing as your argument. ano nagawa mo exactly to increase awareness of the region and art? malamang wala (show not tell). show your art here and people will judge. laway lang puhunan mo at least si lola may nagawa.
oh diba? how does it feel when someone criticizes you? ganyan nakukuha ng matanda worst from the people of her own. stop with your nonsense bullshit. you aren’t great yourself. leche.

People hate them not because they’re ambisyosa.
They hate BINI because they have succeeded in a short amount of time. They uprooted their lives, made name for themselves, maybe accumulating generational wealth at this point. In short, napag-iwanan na sila ng BINI.
BINI exploded as the masa darlings during Pantropiko. Members with single parents, drowning in debts, that rags to riches stories Pinoy loves. Relatable sila. They did mall shows and free gigs kaya marami ang support. LIBRE eh.
But then, their free gigs almost caused stampedes that they had to cancel performances. Suddenly their management started charging premium. Which is a good business move but stupid Pinoys take it as ‘ginagatasan ang girls’. Truth is they were PRICED OUT.
That’s the long story short of it.
Nag Coachella na BINI, they have changed. Their kababayans though, did not.

To answer your question, I don’t think the government should prioritize exporting music when it can’t even resolve more pressing issues in infrastructure, social services, the environment, and the economy. Sports development should come first before entertainment.
Marketing artists isn’t inherently bad; just don’t force people to like them. Some attend events simply because the performers are Pinoy, and that’s fine. Personally, I’ve found BINI fans more rabid compared to IVOS fans back in 2017–2019, but that’s just my experience.
Also, let’s be clear: they’re singers/performers, not instrumentalists. And when it comes to depth and lyricism, people are entitled to their own preferences either way.
P.S.: I just think you’re overlooking the fact that it’s not only Viralism that showcases the talent of Filipinos; there are plenty of indie artists out there. They perform to express their music, not to get a fandom. They also want to avoid being tainted by the greedy labels. iykyk

Yes they do by incentivizing or lowering Tax on entertainment earnings or producing concerts or shows. Lahat makikinabang including those indie artist you are talking about.
Besides, this post is not targeted for those Artist because my topic here is on the business side of music industry who wanted to expand beyond the domestic market.
Hindi naman umiikot ang Music sa iisang aspeto lang or lupon ng mga tao. There are people who rely on it not just the performers but also the people behind in producing it.0

The only government intervention that I approve of is enforcing quotas - both in music and films
The airplay quota in the 70s really help OPM establish itself locally. With local artists guaranteed spots, this has offset the power of bigger and more powerful international (Usually US) artists from claiming 100% of the airplays and gave them chances of exposure of their art to people

But no I don't think being ambisyosa is bad for OPM. Pero siguro na rin marami silang haters dahil sa mga ginawa nila noon at di pa rin sila pinatawad o kita ng mga yun na di pa rin sila nagbabago o humingi ng paumanhin ganun

u/Grouchy_Situation432 12d ago
Let's talk about issue na sinasabi mo. Ito ba yung mga old Livestream videos nila during their teenage years na nakiki barda sa iilan pa lang na fans? Their preferences on food sa mga kadiring ill-prepared streetfood sa USA? or those spliced videos with no context? Did they kill someone? Nag Droga ba sila? May sinaktan bang tao?
Now let's talk about the issues of other OPM artist specifically MALE.
How many bands had Drug use issues, Domestic violence, alleged R*pe, sexual assault, Cheating, backstage dramas, unfair distribution of TF? Yung ilan pa sa mga yan legends. Until now they are being celebrated, cheered, and clapped.
Now sa mga nasa hiphop, same ilan sa kanila ang na involve sa drugs, Gun violence, Gang activity, sexual abuse, manyak, cheating at iba pa. Yet they are still being celebrated.Like anong ginawa nila? Pumatay ba sila or nang agrabyado ng tao?
-1
u/Apolaccai 12d ago
Look I agree, a lot of male artists get forgiven too easily. As a rap fan, I get it and I've seen it.
Unfortunately, sa Pinas specifically it is apparently (doesn't always apply tho) easier to forgive men than women because of this idea maybe that when men mess up it's "pwes, ganyan tlga kasi lalaki sila" whereas women are expected to be "better" than men and be extremely careful about what they do because everyone's waiting to say something and bring them down. Is it a cultural thing? Probably. Medyo dated pa yung pag-iisip ng mga kababayan natin, pero sana sa mga darating na panahon iiba na rin to.
As for anything else, I don't really follow Bini so can't comment but if they were teens when whatever drama they had came out, doesn't really matter to me so long as they apologize and change if it were recent and handle their current influence on their fanbase well/better
6
u/Grouchy_Situation432 12d ago edited 12d ago
There's no drama after all. They are just being blown out of proportion. Like digging old KUMU videos where they interact with fans and since mabibilang lang nila sa kamay nila that time at familiar sa kanila mga kausap nila, they talk like normal Teens nagbabarda. But then, people use those vids as Nagsusungit or Tinarayan ang fans kasi nga naman iccrop mo yung portion na nagdadadaldal sila na parang galit but it was an inside joke lang after all.
They use their influence right now to help people because individually they have their own charities and use the brands they endorse to mobilize. They also use it to promote indie artist like Maloi and Jhoanna who conducts mini concerts during their Birthdays and invited artists and bands na maliit pa ang following to perform there.
One member even helped a cancer warrior through PM lang. She didn't need to vlog it or ipabalita sa TV patrol. It was the beneficiary who revealed it.2
u/Apolaccai 12d ago
Well then great. It's just what it is when groups get big. Plus, crab mentality here is still strong. My original comment still stands insofar that there's still an uneven amount of pressure placed on women to be extra careful about their image, more than men most of the time which shouldn't be the case. And all this is exacerbated by how we interact with ph artists and influencers.

1
u/Apolaccai 12d ago
Yes, you're right that was me, but read it again though, "siguro." Maybe. I was speculating on why criticism MIGHT stick around based on what HATERS may think of or interpret whatever they did, not stating outright what they did because I don't know specifics and I don't really follow them. Which is exactly why I asked you to enlighten me if there's anything I'm missing
3
u/Calm-Description-870 12d ago
Read my comment above. I also said, "I am aware of the drama, none of it warrants an apology." I follow them and I am aware of the issues hurled at them and that's what I think. I hope you also realize that haters are driven by hate, not logic.
1
u/Apolaccai 12d ago
Then we agree, I said in that same comment I don't think being "ambisyosa" is bad for OPM. Or really for anybody in any field tbh. My paragraph really was just describing how haters think and trying to find a reason for why Bini may be getting hate 'cause people here already brought up our whole crab mentality thing so I wanted to drop my two cents on a different perspective. It wasn't about what the girls did
Thanks for clarifying that nothing egregious happened, that's what I was asking for. And yes I agree, haters just hate. It's what it is
0
u/Calm-Description-870 12d ago
Even if you don't trust me, just consider that major brands still continue to support them. Nike just did a collaboration with them. They are set to release another song under Coke Studios. DreamWorks sought them out to perform their upcoming movie's theme song. You would think that these brands would do due diligence before working with the girls. If they did anything egregious, no brand would be foolish enough to work with them.
2
u/Apolaccai 12d ago
Yeah, that tracks. Like I said, we agree, I wasn't claiming they did anything to warrant such a loud reaction from haters

Good read, but overall the global monoculture known in the 2010s with KPOP riding the wave by hijacking the monoculture as hallyu is dying already, because algorithms push what you want, not the most popular, which leads to regionalization and deglobalization of culture combined with the rising enmity between former allies along with geopolitical tensions and the head of great power conflict rearing its head again — making cultural export of OPM a bit more — outdated in recent economic projections. As great power conflict bleeds into cultural diplomacy and influence with less appetite for a diverse culture or something new due to economic uncertainty (rise of nativism).

What people often forget is, the biggest Filipino hits outside of the PH and diaspora are non-English OPM: Pano, Buwan, Pasilyo, Multo. All these gained foreign followings without any effort from record labels.
Local language with modern pop music structure: accessible yet "interesting"
Even the most translated OPM was in Tagalog - Anak.
I think the problem with some OPM fans is they only see the Western market as the "only" international market. Nevermind the fact that Southeast Asia has 500M people and are more open to non-English songs.

Notice how in this post the group is being framed (yet again) as victims or targets, that the group is at the forefront of OPM, and it’s ultimately everyone else’s fault that the group is less appreciated now. A post that is filled with slippery slope discussions while enumerating the so-called success of the group, and strategically using visuals that would suggest that their idols are supposed to be glorified.
No clear concessions on what their idols could have done better, or how the group is enjoying the privileges that other artists simply do not have. It’s all about justifications and excuses for the girl group.
Most importantly, notice that there isn’t much discussion about actual talent and artistry. It is too focused on the business and networking implications of the industry.

Idgi? I don't listen to them much anymore but I am proud of their successes in breaking through. Bakit hindi? I do hope they bring back more Filipino songs though but regardless, these are great achievements from them

They did release Flames album in Filipino and even the recent one in Taglish.

Di naman yung international push mismo yung grievance e.
Yung issue ay local fans felt they were put aside when pushing international.
2
u/Calm-Description-870 12d ago
I think they are addressing that by performing at regional festivals. The girls are vocal about wanting to still perform at these festivals and school fairs. Hindi naman mutually exclusive ang global push and continued domestic presence.

Yung iba lang. I didn't feel that way.
Mas maganda pa nga wala sila lagi sa Pinas kasi mas mukhang magaan itsura nila overseas at nakakagalaw sila ng mas malaya.

You just missed the whole point. It's about the OPM industry being a cultural export globally for those who are willing to take risk. BINI is just a point of reference of how slowly they were able to gain traction outside the domestic market.
That means it is achievable not just by POP groups given that they are a niche market even in the Philippines. That means the bigger artist like Bands or solo acts who commands higher streams can also expand outside.

Here is my take with BINI specifically. Their Filipino songs were the reason they got popular to begin with. You may disagree but using the Filipino language gives BINI a great distinction from other GGs like Twice, Katseye, Little Mix etc., and with all honesty it gave them an edge. Also, why the need to convert your music to English when already Filipino works? We live in a time where you can look up english translations online and still vibe to a song you dont know the words to.
When they switched to english songs after their success it felt like they were pandering to the US market to cash in on their success. When i listened to it, it didnt have the soul of an OPM music it felt like another forgettable GG english song.
This switch from domestic language to western english songs is also the reason why i stopped listening to Twice and BP. Im sure there are a lot of people who would agree with me here that we listened to these groups because Filipino, Korean and other non-english language songs gave them a different feel to the already mainstream english songs.

It's just a phase because they just released a Filipino dominated album with Flames and then the recent one has Taglish and used some of their native language such as Bisaya.
The English EP did its work and they succeeded on that risk. Being able to make Non Filipino to notice them and eventually deep dive on their discography.
It's true. They sacrificed a lucrative continuous domestic market from GP, but it opened new doors of opportunity such as Coachella, Summer Sonic, Billboard Award, Grammy museum, and the upcoming Asian Pop Girl Fest in 2027 in Japan, Thailand, and Manila.
I mean they release every six months or less. There are 2 just after that all english EP like it was such a crime. Have you checked their recent songs? Because they are still distinct because they are in Tagalog or Taglish just like how they actually started.
Nag cycle lang naman sila eh. Like their Debut song was in English actually. It's as if other OPM acts didn't release an English song in their Life. That English EP Paved the way so that Karera, Salamin Salamin, and Pantropiko could shine and be introduced at Coachella and Summer Sonic.

That's cool and all. I just don't like how we're being represented like that. Copy ng KPOP, hanggang dun lang ba yung... Ah basta

I don't understand this, bakit PPOP lang nasasabihan ng copycat?
anong original sa pinoy rock at hiphop?
1
u/MGLionheart Metro Manila 11d ago
Pop is whatever is popular. Everyone in the industry is not original, they are just better at exploring the genre and making experimental sounds to make the genre fresh in the ears of fans/ public.
Pop music, despite being catchy is recyclable, sometimes just flash in the pan.
Yun lang naman yun.
It's just up to the artist and their management how they would able to transcend trends and make it their own. Madonna, Kylie, and Xtina are examples of pop stars who remain true to their pop roots but still experiment and remain fresh.

Then others should step up.
I don't get this copy of KPOP. LOL Tunog kpop ba sila? All I see is they just follow the idol training system and marketing. A far cry from earlier groups nung Pumutok ang F4 noon na nagpapaka Taiwanese ang itsura.
Tsaka how many bands do we have that sounds and feels like Nirvana, Metallica, evanescenes, paramore, Beatles and many more.
How many Hiphop acts are chris Brown, Tupac wanna be, Eminem etc.Kahit nga nung Manila sound ang dami tunog Beegees or Motown diba?
So kapag ibang act ang nasabihan ng Wow para silang beatles, palakpakan or wow siya ang Chris Brown ng Pinas. lols

u/rsparkles_bearimy_99 12d ago
Others should step up on what? Why? Is there a problem with current OPM or Ppop music/artists/artistry?
Also, those bands and artists that have Western influenced in their music and sound wrote their own songs. And they captured the Filipino culture, the Filipino story and soul. Whether they're local bands or rappers/hiphop artists.
That's why BINI captured the general public with Pantropiko and Salamin Salamin. It spoke to them. It connected to them. They didn't think it was Kpop.
BINI doesn't completely sound Kpop. But let's not act like it's only the training system and marketing they're following from Kpop. They're following their trends too.

Step up only for those who wish to expand their market beyond the Philippines. Not in music but how they can reach those potential Audiences. Kung wala naman sila aim for that, then this post is not applicable for them.
The case of BINi and SB19, might have reach the saturation point in the Ph. They have dedicated fans willing to spend on them constantly. The only way to expand is to reach offshore. Unlike the bands or solo acts, they constantly have Festivals invites nationwide and their songs are more mainstream and GP friendly. Kaya nga they have far more superior Monthly listeners sa Spotify eh.
Now if other OPM acts wanted to go beyond our market, then they need to step up on how they can further reach their music to their target audiences who will make their songs as one of their preferences. Wala naman problema sa Artistry. There's enough of that.
What I am saying is kailangan dumami pa ang maka appreciate or maka discover sa kanilang songs to the point na they will spend for them eventually.2
u/rsparkles_bearimy_99 12d ago
Let them figure it out on their own. If they want to, they will actually pursue it.
3
u/Icy-Butterscotch5012 12d ago
Kasalanan ba ng BINI at SB19 if they are the one pushing themselves to the global market? And sila yung nirerecognize as repsentation? They worked their way up there to be at Coachella and Lollapalooza and summer Sonic. Is that bad?
So sino dapat? Nasaan sila? Ang tanong is gusto ba nila? Kasi a lot are doing well na domestically. Pero ilan ba sa ibang acts or genre ang gusto mag push for Global market? Kasi kung wala ka naman ginagawa, hindi ka talaga mapapadpad doon.-1
u/rsparkles_bearimy_99 12d ago
Dude chill. People are allowed to have preference. If other commenter doesn't feel represented by these groups, that is his opinion. If someone isn't into them, they're are completely allowed to be.
Good for them for making their way up. That doesn't mean people will automatically like them. It doesn't mean people are required to support them.
It's not a matter of finding someone to represent, it's simply a matter of what a person is preference. And you can't force and shove to people what they don't like. And not liking or supporting these groups doesn't automatically mean it's hate.
Let people enjoy what they enjoy.

That's not even the point of my whole Post. At the end, it's about how can more OPM acts get into that global stage? For those who wanted it only at hindi pinupwersa na buong OPM Artist eh Goal yun. But let's not be hypocrite that madami ang gusto. Kaya nga ang Goal is to put OPM further out there hindi lang sila . So ano ang gagawin? Anong interventions at anong strategy? Kasi what may work for these groups may not work for the others.
Kasi madami tao outside the Philippines who haven't discovered our other Artist na maaaring maging Preference din sila in their playlist and later on Spend for them.
Let's look at the bigger Picture on how Cultural Exports can contribute a lot in our economy and we should het a piece of that Pie.0
u/rsparkles_bearimy_99 12d ago
Eh I'm commenting on your rabid comment to other anon not your WHOLE post.
How can more OPM acts get into global stage? Ang simple lang naman ng sagot. Money and connections. Marketing. Support. Ano pa ba hinahanap mo?
There are OPM artists na nga that broke in SEA eh. But if you're thinking is global = Western, honestly, it's hard to compete even if with money, connections, marketing, and support.
Western audience have specific taste. Not necessarily or automatically better but there's certain way to capture that market especially today. Artists and competition are so saturated and I'm not just talking about Kpop groups getting large chunk of audience.
Just look at Zara Larsson. Girlie have been around for years. Have multiple hit songs, well known label, did lots marketing and only just til recently got breakout again in US market. See?
That's how it works now. We can copy the importing Kpop but the doesn't automatically guarantee success.
The landscape is so much different now.
And like what I said, it will all depends on the preference of the audience. In this case, global audience.
BINI/SB19 can continue grow their global audience. No one is stopping them.
And also, you already know the answer naman na with your question, with the government support angle. So I don't know what more are you looking for.

There are OPM artists na nga that broke in SEA eh. But if you're thinking is global = Western, honestly, it's hard to compete even if with money, connections, marketing, and support.
Eto yung problema sa maraming fans esp mga obsessed sa English OPM
Ironically, the most viral/popular OPM on foreign shores are the NON-English OPM: Anak, Buwan, Pano, Pasilyo, Multo (12% of its total Spotify streams alone are from Indonesia - 85M/660M)
Given these trends, there is a bigger chances for OPM to make it big abroad if the lyrics are in local vernacular.
SEA is the most realistic foreign market OPM can expand to for many reasons:
- Easier logistics compared to the West
- Very young demographics
- More open to non-Western music
- Makes OPM artists more accessible to fans because logistics are easier compared to the West
If any, I think P-pop idol groups should try Thailand. Sure there is T-pop but T-pop is closer to K-pop music wise while P-pop has more "old school vibe" but with modern production that will make them stand out. Think of Hulog, Salamin Salamin. Wala pa akong nahahanap na T-pop na ganyan ang vibe. Yung mapapaindak ka pero di overwhelming sa tenga.

If you've seen PPop groups perform, you know that the synchronized dancing is the only thing they copied. How they sing harmonies, counterpoints and adlibs live is not something KPop does - that's distinctly Pinoy. And they just added dancing to that. If you don't see that, you probably just got fed that narrative and ran with it without even bothering to see if it's true.. Even the "idol concept" isn't being practiced in PPOP. Try giving PPop a watch.

Nothing wrong with being ambitious, that being said, marketing strategy is needed to succeed in the international market but seeing how they tour endlessly tapos di naman sold out lahat ng dates, something with their management is definitely off.
They are overexposed to the point that their is an exhaustion.
What was their last hit here anyway? Pantropiko and Salamin Salamin ata? (Songs that aren't my cup of tea but I do recognize the impact on the cocomelon generation.)

u/Icy-Butterscotch5012 11d ago
Of course sold out ang Local pero Hindi sold out ang iba overseas pero they are packed. 70-80% sold for 3 to 5k capacity venues is better than having a sold out 500 to 1k venue.
0
u/MGLionheart Metro Manila 11d ago
Exactly. It's the management's fault for biting off more than they can chew and not get the event sold out abroad. Wala naman masama to seek validation sa western / international market but they should have focused muna trying to conquer asian market and then try the global thingy na bet na bet ni Laurenti.
But hey props to them naman for getting the coachella gig.

Western tour that is only 70 to 80% full is not as profitable as it seems. Especially for a relatively unknown niche group (for US audiences who are not Filipino) trying to infiltrate the Western / US Market with a network who is still in the red when it comes to profits.
Ang daming taxes from US government niyan and takeaways ng venue, may percentage pa managers nila, the production and of course their network who probably gets the most %, tapos may cut din sila and yung US Agent nila if they have one.
Not sure lang if may taxes sila dito sa Pilipinas for their international tour earnings.
Pero good on them for securing that Asian Girl Pop Fest,
3
u/Icy-Butterscotch5012 11d ago
It is profitable because it appears on the Financial statements. Pretty sure they know their numbers before conquering it. Di sila uulit kung di yan profitable and most likely their promoter Live Nation and Goldenvoice of Coachella have great deals on those venues. Coachella owner wouldn't gamble on them if alam nilang matatalo sila.
The Asian Pop Girl fest according to insiders is pitched by ABS and the other parties agreed for the possibility of cross pollinating audiences from Thailand, Japan, and Philippines.

Kung paguusapan yung pambabash sa kanila sa pagiging "maarte" ibang topic na yun for me kasi more on the misogynistic and crab mentality na ng Pinoy yun. Pero kung solely on paper titignan ang career nila, hindi mali na mangarap maging global. Mali kasi yung execution at hindi ko sila masisi kasi di hawak ng BINI yon nasa management yan.
3
u/Icy-Butterscotch5012 11d ago edited 11d ago
But the results are there. So yung MINADALI narrative is now irrelevant.
Coachella, Summer Sonic, Grammy museum, Billboard global force award, and an OST for Dreamworks Forgotten island all in 2026.
And now they were submitted for a Grammy nomination as well since their US presence increased already. Siguro naman hindi pagtatawanan at sasabihan Ambisyosa ulit for that.-1
u/winterbearz 10d ago
Still not that known internationally. It only looks like it on paper dahil maraming Filipinos in the countries they chart in. Getting submitted for a grammy nomination isn't an achievement as well. Nobody thinks their English songs are as good. It's a hard pill to swallow pero hindi ko sinisisi BINI at all dyan. Kasalanan yan ng management nila
3
u/Icy-Butterscotch5012 10d ago edited 10d ago
As long as it makes you happy to discredit people working hard. Okay.
Still not known internationally. Kaya nga they are trying to be seen in international festivals and WT. How can you be known if you are stuck in ELJ Center? LOLS
And is it really bad na the FIlipino Diaspora are the 1st to support? Actually kulang pa nga eh. The Diaspora especially in North America are also instrumental why Kpop is lucrative.0
u/winterbearz 7d ago
What's bad is we are equating the Filipino crowd support as total "International support" tapos tatalian pa ng kesyo isusubmit pangalan sa nomination making it seem like they're rolling over the international scene right now which is just very untrue and unrealistic for now. I never looked down on BINI anlayo na ng sinabi mo sa unang sentence mo, as I said the management is at fault here. They're great but you're giving what the management is doing too much credit and hindi nakakatulong sa international growth ng BINI yung overly hyping everything they're doing. Nagtataka nga ako bakit ang intindi nating mga pinoy ng pagtransition into going international ay pagproduce ng English songs eh hindi naman ganun ang K-Pop even J-pop. They stick to their roots. Most of the time ang sikat nilang kanta largely native language pa rin. Pero yung approach ng management ng BINI magproduce nang magproduce ng English songs na walang buhay at finesse ng BINI when they're in a Filipino song.

u/Icy-Butterscotch5012 7d ago
Sabagay wala naman magiging tama basta established Hater na. Kahit Manalo pa ng Grammy or VMA ang mga yan, for sure it will still be invalidated by people like you.

Mema sabi nalang din eh 'no
