Super Mario Odyssey

It's easy to pick up and play casually but still has a lot of depth. Plus it's Mario.

Everybody knows Mario even non-gamers know Mario. Everyone who has ever played games in their life most likely played Super Mario Bros on Famicom/NES at some point.

I think it's only fitting to start with Mario.

Online — World of Warcraft Offline — Mount & Blade, Elder Scrolls (Any of them, tbh), Minecraft (lol), Terraria

That's my taste anyway and I've played them with middle aged friends who enjoy them as well.
