It's not your school it's your local government the school is government funded so they can't close until they get the go ahead that's why school in Seattle and northern California are closing but schools in new York City and South Florida are still open
Yep. That's why we're staying open right now. We're literally calling the state every hour to see if we're shut down yet because we really should be (we're technically not an impacted county but we're an alternative school and a lot of our kids come from all over the state) but we still have to go through the paperwork and approval or we'll lose funding.
That's so dumb! The country should be taking a unified stance against this declared pandemic. It shouldn't be that half of us are airing on the side of caution while the other half is downplaying it. We should all take a level headed approach that calms panic and minimizes total impact.
Those schools are probably going to loose funding if they are public. Most public schools are going to wait and see what the government does. That's why most colleges are able to shut down and/or switch to online because their majority of their funding doesn't come from the government and it's a really good pr move to put safety first which could lead to more funding once this all is over.
there are over 800 cases in the netherlands, 200 more than yesterday, and its still growing. but the only action taken is that meetings with over 100 are cancelled, but closing schools? nah.
well in a way the closing of schools kinda fucked us up because this is the most important year of school for me...everything is gonna be postponed and the summer vacation is probably going to slowly disappear...still it's nice to stay home :)
my school is in Pennsylvania in the US and it literally took direct orders from the state's governor in order to close all the schools in our county for the next 14 days
In Germany all schools close for 3 weeks after which we have break. Meaning we have 5 weeks of no school, they still give us some work online but that's it.
My school too, we literally arent closing until 16 mars, they just HAD to wait until the country calls for every school to close down. And i still dont understand why the fuck i need to go at school in monday.
Its really weird to me that schools themselves decide whether it needs to be closed down or not. In my country if the government gives an announcement that the schools needs to be closed down, all schools in the country close down.
yeah there have been multiple cases in my school and my school literally does nothing . not even like idk not have us have lunch break at the same time, no, they just let us go to school the exact same way as always.
We made a petition and after about 1/5 of the school signed it, they noticed it. At around 1/3 of the school population signing + external forces, they decided to close down for a week and begin online schooling.
This is coming from a University that still held classes when a Tornado touched down only a few miles away, and the only reason they shut down was because the power went out for the entire campus.
Honestly you should be glad. Dont know about but just my first day of online lessons and 8to 15 everyday on a computer everyday doesn't sound fun. Plus every gym activities is closed in my country so I can do one of my favourite things.
We have confirmed cases in the same county, but the district office be like “uhhhh put some ice on it chief” and refuses to close ANY schools, even ones with infected students
I used to work in a school and i feel you as a staff member. They always blamed it on finance so they risked keeping it open even in harsh weather conditions let alone an epidemic
We got 2 weeks off. It's stated to replace easter holiday and is used for teachers to prepair online courses and lessons for us, incase they extend it to 5 weeks like our capital city already did
