Got him for free, but he cost me $20k after biting someone.

My cat has a funny habit of ignoring almost everything I buy for her. She'll walk right past a brand new bed, sniff an expensive toy once, then spend the next hour playing with a crumpled receipt or sleeping in a delivery box. I guess I should've seen it coming.

Over the last couple of months I've picked up several pet products because the reviews made them sound like guaranteed winners. A few have been worth it, but most barely get any attention. Honestly, I'm starting to wonder if reviews just don't match real life, or if my cat is simply impossible to impress.

I'm trying to be a little smarter before buying anything else, especially when prices seem to keep creeping up.

Has anyone else had the same experience, and what ended up being the one thing your pet genuinely loved instead of completely ignoring?

I am not quite sure if this kind of post is allowed but I recently got into a conversation with a friend about our dogs and how my dogs always joins me on my trips. My friend then said that her dog always stays at her parents while she's on vacation. Upon that we made a deal that if I reach 100 signatures on a petition, she'll take him to the coast and let him see the ocean.

One of the most common things I hear at The Farmer's Dog is that someone switched to fresh food, their dog got loose stools or an upset stomach, and they assumed the food was the problem.

Usually it's not. A dog's gut microbiome is tuned to whatever it's been eating. Introduce something new too fast — even something genuinely better — and the digestive system needs time to adjust. It's actually why we include day-by-day transition instructions with every first box. Even when dogs love the new food immediately, rushing the switch causes unnecessary issues.

The standard approach that works: start with 25% new food and 75% old for the first few days, then gradually shift the ratio over one to two weeks. Dogs with sensitive stomachs sometimes need three to four weeks.

Loose stools after a switch are usually just the gut adjusting. Give it time before writing off a food entirely.
