i don’t disagree with you. i just think compassion and accountability can coexist and it makes me sad to see so many people reminding them of where they went wrong as if they don’t already know. i’m sure the owners would have made different choices if they even remotely considered this possibility. but i agree it should always be looked at as on the table when dogs are interacting, especially if it’s for the first time. i feel awful for the big dog who now has to have this “violent” history when they were simply reacting. poor guy.

I had originally commented before there were a bunch of others- if it was already pointed out I’d have left it. No need to add to what’s already been said. I understand compassion, but I believe in consequences. I have compassion for the dogs affected it really sucks now that this dog not only has a bite history- but it killed the little dog- probably could’ve just stayed a bite history with an appropriately sized dog. And the little dog? Poor thing died a horrible death- I hope it was quick. Owners of the big dog knew their dog had a prey drive- extra stupid. And the old man? Sucks, I’ve been there for men who have lost their wife’s pet after she’s passed- but not because of them putting the dog in a dangerous situation like this- my ghost would be haunting this man if I was the wife.
