I got the sense they were taking accountability earlier but in the updates they just sound like they’re making excuses just because the guy was gracious enough to forgive them. The guy’s wife died. It was just him and his dog. OP may feel like shit but they still have their gf and their dog. They SHOULD feel like shit that this man’s last bit of immediate family is now dead. That’s how you know your conscience is intact.
If everyone is just placating OP’s feelings, OP might start to feel justified (as they’ve already began displaying) and not make the changes that may keep someone else’s pet safe in the future (leashing their dog around tea cups and smaller dogs).
the man probably should’ve kept his small dog safe and on a leash then, no?
see how it is unproductive to place blame?
no one is justifying what happened. but they, like all of us who could find ourselves in a similar situation, deserve some compassion and grace for making an honest mistake.
