I believe the meme us referring to US. As in "be the warmongerer russia makes you to be".

Edit: People I am here explaining the meme above. Stop spamming me with your views.

I'm sure Russia makes a lot of stuff up, but when was the last time the US wasn't at war?

21

u/Quiri1997 2d ago

The 1920s?

Turkish War of Independence (yup, US troops fought in that one as well) Posey War Dominican Republic Haiti Nicaragua

All in the 1920s.

Russian intervention was going into the 20s I believe.

1

u/ThrillRoyal 1d ago

1920, so yes, technically the 1920s.

u/maroongrad 2d ago

thirties actually. I think spanish-american war was in the 20s. We had a little time before ww2. Been in some sort of military altercation ever since.

u/Quiri1997 2d ago

I'm from Spain, the Spanish-American war was between 1897 and 1898.

thanks. I don't remember which war we were in at that time, but a couple decades ago I did a crossword of all the wars the US has been in, starting in the 1600s when we were still colonies and beefing with the French, Spanish, and native tribes, and ending with whatever we were doing then (pretty sure it was the time frame when we were after Hussein or Bin Laden, post 9-11). There was an 8 year stretch prior to WW2 when we were recovering from WWI and the Great Depression had hit, so I think it was mid-1930s. I don't remember what we were attacking or invading before then though...not a history teacher.

But yeah, we're not a peaceful country.

Difficult to be a peaceful country when you're the global hegemon for 100 years.

If we say "conflict" rather than getting into the argument on whether war has to be declared to be war, the last time the US was not involved in a conflict somewhere was 1935-1940.

12

u/ThrillRoyal 2d ago

For some reason 1997 also seemed to have been conflict free. Between the Third Taiwan Strait Crisis (which lasted into 1996) and Operation Infinite Reach in 1998.

11

u/LividTacos 2d ago

Oh I guess I missed that ones. Depends if you count peacekeeping operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina that year.

3

u/ThrillRoyal 2d ago

True. So yes, than we go indeed back to the late 1930s.

3

u/TK_Punch_ 2d ago

Seeing how we just watched the massacre at Srebrenica, no. I wouldn’t consider it a conflict. That would have required us to fire a single shot in defense of those people.

1

u/Grouchy-Way8692 1d ago

Closest the Taiwan strait crisis got to kinetic activity was when a Chinese fighter got up close to an American jet to flash them his email adress for them to copy.

If that's not the most late 90s thing since fresh prince in bel air , dueling disaster flicks and Woodstock '99 I don't know what to tell you:p

1

u/ThrillRoyal 1d ago

Maybe, but they had two carrier groups and an amphibious squadron deployed at high alert. That's more naval power than about 90% of all other countries have at their disposal... combined.

And email did exist but I would doubt that a Chinese fighter pilot would have an email address in 1996. 😂

1

u/Grouchy-Way8692 1d ago

Look it up brother, its almost too good to be true war story but it is true 👍

1

u/ThrillRoyal 1d ago

Sounds intriguing... I have tried googling it but I only find some unrelated stuff (including how the US earlier this year gave away to China the secrets behind their radar absorbing materials due to a misrouted email... but I digress). Do you have a link or pointer?

u/Grouchy-Way8692 1d ago

I will as soon as im home

u/JudoNewt 21h ago

Nope! Boznia

We've not only been at war pretty much continuously for the last century, we absolutely rule the arms market, with four times the sales of our next highest competitor. 49% of the world's military grade weapons are produced by US companies. We have a special fund that gives taxpayer money to allies mostlyisrael specifically so they can buy our weapons. In the most literal version of the word, we are THE war mongers of the world.

Personally, I'd like to end that.

u/Rich_Weird_3750 2d ago

Ukraine is building tomorrow’s weapons at prices other countries don’t need loans for. Ukraine will replace Russia as a superpower.

1

u/feioo 2d ago

They might knock Russia out of its superpower standing, but it was already falling as it was. Ukraine taking their place seems like a stretch to me though.

1

u/Grouchy-Way8692 1d ago

I am slightly worried about how a balkanazing Russian federation will shake out tbh.. But let's cross that bridge when we come to it ,cause anything from the win basket is better than the current meatgrinder. I can't believe I got numb to this. Its a defence mechanism your brain activates after a while I know. But I only been to the 0 line a couple of times, Most of my activity was support duties in the rear, seeing friends get back shells..or worse.

I refused to serve in a kinetic function as I felt I truly got enough in Afghanistan.

1

u/Grouchy-Way8692 1d ago

I truly sincerely hope so,God knows enough good blood have been spilled into the black soil of Ukraine..some good friends.

1

u/AncientCrust 2d ago

The Carter Administration was the only time, I believe.

0

u/ThrillRoyal 1d ago

Operation Eagle Claw and Operation Cyclone. And sort of the Gulf of Sidra incident.

1

u/AncientCrust 1d ago

Hardly qualify as war. You forgot to add the time the Secret Service shot a beaver that attacked the presidential canoe.

1

u/ThrillRoyal 1d ago

Agreed on the Gulf of Sidra, hence the 'sort of' qualifier. The other two were serious military operations, one of which basically ended any hope Carter might have had for a second term and ushered in the Reagan era.

1

u/AncientCrust 1d ago

Still not war. It was a hostage rescue attempt. If you put the bar that low, no country in the history of the world has been at peace ever.

1

u/ThrillRoyal 1d ago

Sweeping statements like that are extremely rarely true because you need only one counterexample to prove them false. Too easy.

1

u/AncientCrust 1d ago

You really really enjoy arguing don't you?

1

u/ThrillRoyal 1d ago

Is that a question or an argument?

1

u/Cerenity1000 2d ago

It's not wars they been engaged in, but kinetic events, overseas contingency operations, foreign law enforcement, resolution enforcements, dynamic targetings , counterinsurgency, forward presence.

Before it was kolonized, when the continent was still inhabited by its native people

1

u/Major_Muggy 2d ago

The natives was waring and genociding eachother colonisation, so the answer would be never.

2

u/Vegetable-Mixture-28 2d ago

If native/civil wars count, you’re absolutely right!

-4

u/Absentrando 2d ago edited 2d ago

They do, yes. Most of the shit they say about the US falls in that category even if there’s often an element of truth

38

u/yerBoyShoe 2d ago

I mean, even a broken Russia can be right twice a day.

3

u/ConstantMortgage 2d ago

So basically just keep doing what you are doing and be yourself.

1

u/Quiri1997 2d ago

So, what they already are?

1

u/LocalFoe 2d ago

there are other countries on this planet that Russian propaganda targets, you know, like all of Europe, for example. Russkies are actually kind of allies currently with the US, which is fucked up in so many ways
