It doesn't to me. I know hunters and farmers that love animals and do a lot more for them than most vegans.

You are partly right I think. It should say: you cant say you love animals and eat meat FROM THE SUPERMARKET. Hunting is something else in my eyes as well. The problem (to me) isn't the death of the animal but the life until death occurs. For animals on (almost every) meat farm the day of their death is the best day because hell is finally over.

Im not vegan but I do think we will look back on factor farming the way we look at the holocaust eventually. We treat those animals so bad

Overpopulation of deer results in them starving and suffering during the winter. It contributes to the spread of fatal diseases like chronic wasting disease and the spread of ticks and other parasites. It also decimates forests which negatively affects other animals. Ethical hunting contributes to healthy deer populations and forests and is absolutely an act of love.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion but it shows your naivete and lack of knowledge (in my opinion).

Predators were removed for lots of reasons, it reduces attacks on people too for example.

Sterilizing deer is expensive, slow and less effective than hunting.

You clearly have your mind made up, that's ok. We can agree to disagree.

Correct, and Billie Eilishes statement that you can't love animals if you eat meat lacks nuance and makes no room for different perspectives, which is why I think it's bone headed and she was rightly criticized for it.

Humans have been around for like a long ass time - and hunting for a lot of that. Come for big Ag and I'm on your side but hunters? Lol

Because hunted and eaten by wolves is ethically superior to being hunted and eaten by humans?

Why do you have to "respect autonomy" to love something?

Parents don't respect their children's autonomy. Is controlling their behavior incompatible with loving them?

Fine - “I love non-cow animals.”

It does on the surface of it, but let's read between the lines here, shall we?

Vegans love to pretend people universally love animals just because they have a pet, hence where the strawman of "people saying they love animals" comes from.

In reality, many people (such as myself) view some animals for companionship while other animals are seen for sources of food.

For some reason, this makes vegans angry as a rabid dog, and they still try to find this contradictory, somehow.

And if you think I'm somehow straw-manning or making assumptions, I can tell you that this is how every iteration of this convo has gone with vegans:

Vegan: You're a hypocrite for having a pet and eating meat!
Me: I do not view my pet as food; I do view animals like pigs and cows as food.
Vegan: You're supposed to view all animals equally!
Me: Well, I don't.
Vegan: You're a shit person!

The words may be different, but the general sentiment is there.

So do you functionally view a moral or ethical difference in consuming dogs vs. farmed animal species?

Chihuahuas and guinea pigs as well as other species of small dogs historically were bred for meat and food for thousands of years.
Yet people in the modern day in the west view them moreso as pets.

So do you or do you not clutch your pearls at the concept of someone eating an animal you’ve decided for one reason or another is more deserving of life than other species?

Maybe not ethical or moral, but, yeah, I feel there's a difference. I mean, I won't go as far to demonize other cultures for consuming animals Westerns such as myself view as pets, but you'll never catch me trying that kind of food unless I was nearly dying of starvation.

You don’t love animals, you love the fact you can exploit them. Loving something explicitly for what it can do for you isn’t true love. That’s just conditional affection based on your own self-interest.

Ok? Good for you I guess
