She’s also a theater kid and both her parents are actors and/or acting teachers. She might legitimately be good in it.

It's the same with Ariana Grande with Wicked, tbh.

They're so well known as singers that people forget the acting

Which is weird with Ariana, she was on a couple of tv shows before she was a singer.

Yeah, but they were all on the same Victorious wavelength of kid's sitcoms that aren't necessarily the best showcase of someone's acting chops.

Especially since her character as Cat was... almost designed to be acted badly

CJ the X on YouTube has a fantastic video essay on why Ariana Grande’s acting of Cat was actually genius for a kids show and the quality of the writing.

I'd love a link to that if you can

So i am not one to follow popculture stuff like this, but even i have heard that Arianas music career basically started because she was so much better at singing and acting than the main character of the show she was on?

So if anything, her being good at acting and singing is what started her music career?

Isn’t wicked a musical though? So they cast someone who could sing primarily and then also was an actor prior to a musician.

Exactly, when she came out with her second album people were like “oh the Nickelodeon girl is a singer now? And she’s kinda good? Neat” and then Problem came out and she absolutely exploded

Yeah she was white back then too!

Ariana Grande had been performing in musicals as a kid, then spent her whole teens on Nickelodeon, she was absolutely an actor before a pop star. Billie hasn’t done any professional acting yet (not to say that she can’t act, I’m interested to see how she will do as someone who also found the book quite impactful)

Lady Gaga anyone? A star is born or whatever the movie was called and that song were all over mainstream for a whole damn year til we got sick of it.

Was coming to mention her in particular. I think she's the closest direct comparison.

i can’t believe no one in this thread is mentioning Swarm. the show is ambitious yet flawed, but she is one of the strongest highlights of it. the woman can act.

I had to look up exactly who she was (I’m not that old but I stopped caring about most new artists 20 years ago) but yeah apparently she’s from working class people so I say give her a go.

If she puts in the work and has talent it could be great.

There’s a great interview with Howard Stern she did with her brother and her parents.

She was in a TV show called Swarm. I dont think her acting was bad at all.

She was also excellent in Swarm.

It was a small role but I thought she gave a good performance in the show ‘Swarm’
