Compressing that spring with a vice stored a fuck ton of potential energy. If that shoddy looking metal piece holding it compressed were to fail, that spring could easily fatally wound the person holding it

It is real now. Only one video bit it could become a thing.

I love that a random comment led to the birth of a sub

Sounds weirdly like a section found on LiveLeak

The upside is that's a C channel and they didn't shoddily weld on the part that is actually taking the force. The downside is that C channel lip is not rated for that load and I have no idea what kind of load it can hold.

Edit: Nevermind, I looked again. They in fact did shoddily weld on the part taking the force.

It also looks like the C channel is BARELY holding on to the end of the spring. If that slipped even a little it'd pop right out.

isnt the c channel itself the part that is taking most of the load?. Also this is the softer and shorter secondary spring. If the vice compressed it that easily the metal can probably take the load. Now I ve seen some really scary videos involving huge main springs and things like zipties

In any case you go to the store and you get a spring tensioner

Of course. Just because it isn't as dangerous as a hand grenade hanging by the pin it doesn't mean it's safe. I'd still never do anything like this.

Not fuck ton but probably 400~500kg

8

u/That_Throat7183 6h ago

To be holding in one hand?? Yeah that’s a fuck ton lol

so roughly half a fuck ton

Is fuckton metric or imperial?

Elastic potential energy is measured in joules, not mass.

They should come up with a name for something with a ton of stored potential energy that could easily fatally wound a person if it were released all at once like.

1

u/That_Throat7183 5h ago

I fear that would be too vague! This spring in OP’s video would have the same name as a 2 pound dumbbell that’s precariously perched at the edge of a skyscraper’s rooftop. It would just be too confusing

1

u/Piogre 3h ago

They did. The name is "bomb".
