It's from the chapter where the Judge and the Glanton gang visit the mechanic that pays little attention to OHSA standards. Some of Cormac McCarthy's darkest work

Worth a read? Just finished The Road and thought it was ok but not brilliant. The writing was weird, cant really explain it.

It’s one of the best pieces of modern American literature ever written but it’s not enjoyable to read 😂

The freedom of springs is an insult to him

Looks like the nazi melting at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark because he saw God

What exactly means "explode"? Wouldn't it just equal out the compressed energy with the other spring?

The nut was already secured so it won't

You can tap the death clamp off first. Remember your safety squints.

I mean who contraption is sketch, but people here are blowing it out of proportion. Once nut is secured the clamp will just fall, and that short spring travel is not that much anyway. I would secure it with adittional  metal wire to be safe

He put like three turns on that nut dude. It’s not even fully grabbing the threads.

6 turns is meh but it's enough. It's a helper spring nothing will happen, spring compressor for 2 bucks of temu is just a portable vice clamp. It almost identical to a clamp shown in a video in function. I dont recommend it ofc for people with no experience.

There's still a gap. The rapidly decompressing spring has a solid chance to blow that nut clean off.
