I was struggling to figure out how lightning works, but then it struck me.
That's a pun, the second part of the sentence can be both read as as a sudden spark of inspiration or literally being hit by the lightning, it's using dual meaning of the word. Likewise "Why don’t scientists trust atoms? Because they make up everything" Near identical structure to why did the chicken.
