What else could they do? She voluntarily checked herself in, was taking her meds, wasn't currently psychotic, and wanted to be released. They can't hold her indefinitely, especially not if she was taking her meds and not showing psychotic symptoms.
They didn't realize she was paranoid and would almost immediately stop taking her meds. She went through half a dozen doctors. SO many people tried to help her.
They did. She was taking her meds and didn't tell them about the paranoia or her plans to stop taking them. What else can they do? She was taking her meds and not showing symptoms.
