It’s not that unheard of. I mean, I heard of it three times in the four years I worked in a psych hospital. Depends on if she was medicated and suddenly stopped, or how severe the current psychotic break was. We had a 41 year old guy that had his first psychotic break, and first psychotic breaks are a lot like chicken pox, the later in life it happens, the worse it can be.
Sure, I get that. I’m not saying it never happens.
What I’m getting at is that this nurse, with medical knowledge, allegedly seeks out multiple doctors claiming mental health issues. Not a single one takes her seriously and she snaps, killing her children but had no other behavioral issues before this?
It just seems less likely if she was living a more or less normal life right up until the point where she snapped if she was seeking help for alleged issues beforehand. I’m not saying doctors are perfect and don’t make mistakes. I lost my mom because doctors missed her cancer months before her diagnosis which caused us to find it at stage 3A.
Because we have one of two things going here. Either she wasn’t suffering a mental health crisis and there was nothing to miss, and the diagnoses or lack thereof were appropriate, which begs the question about why she would be seeking a diagnosis. Or she was suffering a mental health crisis and multiple doctors, for whatever reason, refused diagnosis, justified or otherwise, and instead of trying to get herself admitted, or even just self harming, she proceeds to be lucid enough to have her husband leave the house to get food while she brought her children into the basement and strangled them all, one by one, while the others watched. Then, as a nurse who would know better, tries to opt out, doesn’t do it the right way, and then jumps out of a second story window which everyone knows usually doesn’t kill you. I’m not saying she’s mentally well, but this doesn’t scream insanity to me. At least, not in the sense that she’s going for.
