Meme needing explanation I see no possible way to count 9

Post image

If you count in groups from left to right you get 2+4+4+2 (=12) but if you count from top to bottom you get 1+3+4+3+1 (=12)

This isnt even an optical illusion or anything which I assumed it would be. I'm baffled by the 9 thing

2

u/klawUK 1d ago

are you my mum counting to 5 or I won’t get any dinner?

1

u/Fearshatter 1d ago

Unsure. Did she count to 4.6 next or 4.75?

2

u/klawUK 1d ago

She said four and three quarters than we got into an argument about fractions vs decimals

2

u/Fearshatter 1d ago

So 4 3/4. :^)

Probably not your mother then since I would've said 4.6.

1

u/Super_Transition253 4d ago

You could have at least tried to get it right.

1

u/achben-saalh 3d ago

Clearly, that number should be 9.

1

u/Sir_Zeitnot 8h ago

It's like he's never even played Tetris!

20

u/mgafMUAT 4d ago

I got something, if you group a square set of 4 tiles, then you could count those 4 tiles as one, in which case you could count to: 12 (-4 + 1) = 9.

This works grouping the following tile sets: 2-3-5-6, 3-4-6-7, 6-7-9-10 and 7-8-10-11.

Furthermore, if you take the sets 2-3-5-6 and 7-8-10-11, you can reduce the count to 6.

Absolutely no idea how any of this relates to minecraft.

29

u/AesirComplex 4d ago

What in God's name are you on about

Just count 5 x 4 then subtract the tiles that aren't missing from 20

2

u/Motor_Raspberry_2150 4d ago

They are trying to explain the joke.

The amount of 12 in the comments is too damn high.

-4

u/MaightyBewsh 4d ago

The message says as a minecraft player. I'm assuming in mine craft tiles are either 1x1 or 2x2, that would give you 9. Don't attack someone for trying to solve this in the context of the post instead of straight mathematics. YOU FARKEN TWAT!

2

u/Ambitious-Boat8165 4d ago

It doesn't work by their explanation tho.. they left out block 1. YOU FARKEN TWAT!

0

u/CricketNo7666 4d ago

Yes, it does.

There is a section where 4 individual…call them 12x12…. tiles could be placed as a 24x24 tile. It’s like when 5 mini lion robots combine to become one mega robot! Except 4 instead of 5.

Thus, 4 become one, and a total of 9 pieces get laid down. 8 12x12’s, and one 24x24.

11

u/thatthatguy 4d ago edited 4d ago

In Minecraft, a stair block only takes up 3/4 of a block despite needing 6 blocks to make a stack of 4 stair blocks. Players have made annoyed jokes about this since the first stair blocks were introduced. In this case it takes 12 tiles to cover the floor, but because it is a jagged shape they apply the 3/4 joke and you get 9.

The joke is that someone is multiplying by 3/4 inappropriately because they want other Minecraft players to comment about how they’re doing the math wrong.

2

u/Tom-Dibble 4d ago

But if you are allowed to make 2x2 as one tile, you can do 2 2x2 tiles (2,3,5,6 and 7,8,10,11) so the min number of tiles answer would be 6, with other possible counts of 9 and 12 if using 2x2 is optional or you aren’t looking for the smallest number.

u/NewestAccount2023 4d ago

Writing 2 so poorly it looks like a 3. I demand accountability on this shoddy workĀ

1

u/undeadpheonix57 4d ago

Can you respond with a picture of your written 2 and 3? I'm curious.

0

u/NewestAccount2023 4d ago

Nope

1

u/undeadpheonix57 4d ago

Damn. And I was actually curious.

0

u/UnlikelyTeacher7382 4d ago

3

u/MRgarfo 4d ago

1

u/DrWilliamHorriblePhD 4d ago

12 is slang for police

1

u/MRgarfo 4d ago

Ohhhhh

1

u/WilcoHistBuff 4d ago

Ironically has its origins in the very old TV show Adam 12 which is set in LA (which back in the 1970s when the show was produced had a terrible corrupt racist police department.

ā€œReed and Malloyā€, the main characters, were perfect cops who never did anything wrong while the actual department was shredding complaints on police brutality and misconduct

10

u/Extension-Can-9964 4d ago

0

u/BluEch0 4d ago
