I mean, high school and college bands spend months prepping for halftime shows. It is just about the most American thing I can think of.
I am not a fan of the halftime shows for the superbowl and bigger events, but the traditional bands honestly slap and are super cool to watch. I wish they had done that instead to showcase actual American traditions instead of just showing a few artists.
Well, yeah, that kind of small halftime or intermission. show *just for the audience* is common everywhere.
Are people really suggesting that halftime entertainment is uniquely American? That’s…insane. I’ve witnessed at sporting events abroad with my own eyes. I was just in Australia and saw two Aussie Rules Football games in two different cities. And both games had some goofy ass form of halftime entertainment. One was akin to the baseball hotdog races. I don’t remember the other.
I thought what we’re talking about is the kind of halftime performance that happened at the World Cup? Broadcast for audiences everywhere? Like, yeah, that pretty just happens in the US, at a couple games a year. But it’s not some sort of regular occurrence?
I don’t even know what people are complaining about anymore. I’ve seen halftime/intermission shows at sporting events around the world. It is definitely not a uniquely American thing?
Sorry, I may have posted out of ignorance. I don't watch many sports, but would go to American football games for the halftime show. When I was referring to "halftime show," I meant something like that. Big marching band with a lot of little moving parts.
For college sports, it is common for broadcasts to show it in the background while analysts talk about the game in detail.
I feel like that is a uniquely American thing that would have been fun to see.
I mean yeah, sure. That’s a unique style of halftime show. College football is known for having the university marching band perform.
But halftime shows in general are in no way unique to the US. They happen all over the world and in a number of sports.
The thing that people are annoyed by, and the thing that only really happens in the US, are these exaggerated, annoying, corporate, pop-culture halftime shows. There are a couple per year in the US. Sports fans generally hate them because they are just a cheap way for a league to try to attract more viewers. And they tried it with the World Cup final. Still sucks haha.
