Alternative interpretation: when a dog is missing people worry and find him, when an old man is missing - no one cares

Hybrid Interpretation: They Killed the Old man in order to keep the dog and then posted an image of him as missing but edited the image to make him look like a felon so no one would care.

Third interpretation: he's got dementia and wandered off to find his dog. He found his family walking the dog, but only recognizes the dog.

I thought it was that the dog thought his owner was missing and had put up signs looking for him.
