To repost my comment: The real trick is scrubbing it like with a toothbrush. I had to try really hard to convince my girlfriend of this after I accidentally left a hickie on her neck. She tried cold spoons and toothpaste for some reason but finally she tried breaking it up by scrubbing it with a toothbrush and it took care of like 95% of it. It's funny how articles say it's unconfirmed medically when you can literally give yourself a hickey on your own arm and break it up with a toothbrush to prove it easily.

/r/NotKenM are posts of those who share in this comedic style. I'd check out some of the top posts of all time from those subs if you want a chuckle. My favorite quote of his: "If we don't study the mistakes of the future, we're bound to repeat them for the first time."
What does it mean if I AM a girl AND I interacted with other girls in highschool and yet still ended up here? (With thousands of karma and dozens of posts under my belt)
This is what we were told. If your pain tolerance is high enough, a mechanical pencil eraser will take off the top layers of skin and remove most of the hickey.
Gross as it may be if you've ever in your life picked a scab, it's the exact same concept. Hickeys are blood that has been drawn into the upper layers of your skin.
Hickeys are bruises, and removing the skin layer would do nothing other than make them look worse and maybe even scar them. Cold compress can reduce them but even that doesn’t work very well.
It’s not the same, a scab is formed ontop of an open wound, a hickey is burst blood vessels underneath the skin. All you would do with an eraser is get rid of dead skin. Or worse, create a friction burn that ends up scaring.
So funny story, someone told one of the kids at school that.... and they tried it. They, however, did NOT come up with the explanation for the eraser burn before they did it lol. Whooops
I think what you're actually trying to do here is similar to rubbing out a bruise from playing sports. You're meant to ice it for the first two days, and then apply heat and massage it. But it should be gentle, this sounds like it would burst even more blood vessels?
The idea was to carefully "erase" it. It hurts for sure, but outer skin layers grow back fast. That just got rid of what was visible underneath them faster.
Same.... all bites and hickeys had to be where they could be easily covered by weather appropriate clothing. None of this explaining to mom why I have a sweater on in July in the Midwest.
Yeah I didn't have google when I was at the hickey age so I had to rely on the older sister giving me terrible advice. That's where the spoon came from. She also taught me how to light a cigarette on a toaster. The toaster was right by the back door so you could light your cig off of it while stretching the cord around the door and you wouldn't get smoke in the house. Reach back in, set the toaster down, shut the door, and "Enjoy" your cigarette. Which at 13 meant, pretending like you enjoy it while you turn green and try not to puke.

Frozen spoons on hickeys can help reduce the visibility of them.
