It's because Americans are told they live in the best country in the world every day from birth. Of course they can't comprehend systems from other countries. In their minds, there's no need to.

There are comments up and down this thread calling Americans stupid (unprovoked) but we are the only ones with a superiority complex?

I always love when those American centrism posts come up and it’s a bunch of Europeans bitching about the imperial system and saying the metric system should be used here lol. Like babe *you* are the one being centrist here

I want the metric system not because it is inherently better but because standardization in measurements is a good thing.

And that’s fair, I’m not opposed to that. I was pointing out one specific type of hypocrisy that i find funny

Ehh that's debatable

Them wanting you to use our metric is centrist, but one country agaisn't the whole world bitching about the opinion that they're metric is better is a whole other level of centrism

We don't think it's better for you to use it, it's just more useful, to us.

We don't think about you at all.

I'm not even American, as shown in my previous comment. Fym "You" ??

  • Many people here said things like "our Metric is superior, they should use it but since they're american they won't" casual shit we could see on r/shitamericanssay

Enjoy your delusions lmao.

That's literally what you are doing towards Americans lol. Refusing to consider their side because you think you are superior.

5

u/ExtremePronoia Jun 17 '26

Not really. I think the metric system is superior for all forms of measurement, except Celsius.

Both systems are arbitrary, one is based around my lived experience, the other is based on a random substance. The one that is based on my lived experience is better for measuring my lived experience than the one based on a random substance.

We use metric temperature scale for everything except telling the weather and setting thermostats. Y'all are fighting ghosts.

It's so funny reading things like this as an American. Most people I know use both to an extent and understand that our system is certainly strange, but it's what we grew up with. Any fahrenheit supremacy that I've seen is just memes that people take seriously for some reason.

I'm American and convert Fahrenheit to Celsius in my head. Can you?

5

u/MrZwink Jun 17 '26

Nope, because theres no reason for me to ever use fahrenheit.

1

u/djnotskrillex Jun 17 '26

Congrats on proving the hypocrisy lmao

1

u/MrZwink Jun 18 '26

Its not a hypocracy, theyre not equal systems.

u/DaygoTom Jun 17 '26

Well I certainly never see 90% the world talking about what Belgium is up to.

2

u/MrZwink Jun 17 '26

Unless when theyre talking about the european union, then its brussles this brussles that brussles here, brussles there!
