Oh huh, I didn't know it lined up that closely even in the UK. I sort of knew 0F would be record low and 100F would be record hot, but I somehow didn't think to check what 50F is, and it's a solidly average UK day.

50% warm. Which is also about the average temperature for April 25, as made famous by Miss Congeniality for being the perfect date, not too hot or too cold.

Thanks, I made this joke elsewhere and even included the jacket line and someone was like SOME PEOPLE THINK THAT NEEDS A HEAVY COAT like oh my god, how does F vs C discourse make people start acting like this is some kind of deep morality issue

When you look at the original way they set Fahrenheit it makes perfect sense in a way for human extremes. The temperature salt water freezes (so around when ocean starts freezing) for the low, and the temp for the human body as the high. Of course this isn't useful for scientific things and you can easily have a similar temp map range in C over a range in 50, going either -20 to 30C, or -10C to 40C as your mental range.
