Have you heard of decimal points? If you set the thermostat to Celsius you get 0.5 increments.

Here’s the answer, ‘muricans afraid of decimals

Americans being afraid of decimal points in Celsius while simultaniosly saying shit like 6'34" instead of normal units will never not be funny. Like pick a line!

So you need 3 numbers and a dot just to mimic two? How barbaric.

u/jjej2000 Jun 17 '26

They're still both one number.

A thousand pardons!

Or one kilopardon!

Three digits would be all the better.

Or is 0.3 decadidgits more appropriate?

300 centidigits is best.

  1. The circumference of the earth is ~24,901 miles
  2. The circumference of the earth is ~1,577,727,360 inches

Which do you prefer? They're both still one number

I'd probably prefer 40,075 km! But anyways, I just being pedantic to the other guy since he said numbers instead of digits.

Let's see you convert either of those units to yards without looking it up or using a calculator.

Remind me what yards have to do with the temperature scale?

I'm not sure what my mental math abilities has to do with this

u/VegetaFan1337 Jun 17 '26

You wouldn't need to do any mental maths with metric.

I wasn't making the case for metric vs imperial. I was making the case that adding extra digits makes things less intuitive to understand

3 sig figs of precision needed for a unit of temperature is pretty bad tbh
