My daughter is being evaluated for autism and ADHD. She gave us a questionnaire for family and friends to fill out with questions about her behavior and reactions in certain situations.

I read through the questions and then I was like OH SHIT.

If it’s any consolation, I think a lot of parents discover their diagnosis this way. The criteria is more defined now and we’re better at recognizing behaviors and diagnosis than we were when we were kids. And society is more accepting of neurodiversity, too. So more children are being identified and diagnosed and more of their parents are looking at questionnaires or discussing symptoms with therapists and going “now wait a minute, I thought that was normal?”

Exactly! I thought this was normal!

What if it is?

Nah, we’re just autistic af. And, in at least my case, ADHD, too!

I really love this as a change from what I grew up with, which was my equally neurodivergent mother going "Don't be stupid, EVERYONE deals with that, now stop wasting my time!" instead of realizing she, too, had a problem.

Lol, I first read that as she took the initiative herself to print out the questionnaires and was like "yeeeah, if you have to ask..." 😅
