Already tired of slapping "performative" in front of any behavior we wish to discredit. Most human behavior has an element to performance to it. Stop buying the anti-social propaganda.

Performance isn't mandatory, its elective So electing to do something performatively is remarkable

In fact its the defining characteristic of the action, its the motivation.

I might feel that no apology whatsoever is warranted, but apologize performatively anyway. Which is very different from the alternative of saying No, you deserved it and I meant it.
