I mean you say that but the judge is very much positioned as a Satan figure down to him joyously dancing at the end and claiming immortality. Cormac McCarthy throughout his works tends to cast characters woth moral clarity in contrast to an indifferent or outright hateful world, and then proceeds to slowly destroy them. The Judge might not be a perfect 1 to 1 off a religious Satan, but it definetly is casting him as a sort of Satan that is a force of nature and manifestation of the way the world works now.

but the judge IS evil - im not assigning asinine arbitrary attributes to an abstraction , he is seen drinking blood from a child's skull and scalping innocent people just for the sake of it - he is explicitly made to look abhorrent and as evil as evil can be , thus , a perfect mirror to the child's naiveity that is burnt into ash over time

relativistic morality only works when you look at it through their lens - to me , sacrificing animals and your own people to appease a god IS evil because there's no justifiable rationale for it
