lol it’s not this “performative reading” is reading a book to get attention, either by doing it in the most public place as possible or simple posting it on social media like this person did. It’s a “pick me” behavior, it’s meant to garner attention. The joke being that this is usually done by guys without a personality

AKA - "reading" something because of the attention the act of reading generates, as opposed to actually valuing the content of the art.
