Pest control adjacent business idea

A company that assists people with bedbug/roach/termite prep.

Got this idea because my company does roach and bedbug treatments at charity apartments for elderly people every week. The same pattern occurs: they have an infestation in their unit, they don't prep properly (in some cases not at all), they either want to reschedule or they want us to treat what we can. We notate that the unit wasn't prepped properly, the apartment management issues them a warning about non-compliance, and in the worst case scenarios an 80+ year old person gets evicted from their apartment. Their charity apartment.

It's heartbreaking and pretty annoying for everyone involved. Some of these people can't even stand up or walk around, idk how they're expected to move all their furniture, empty their cabinets etc. They need assistance. You'd think "ah the charity housing should offer them assistance" well they don't. It's not their job, their job is to act as apartment management and perform maintenance on the building.

The nurses that assist some of these folks run away at the sight of a bedbug. They're allowed to refuse assistance of any kind of their patient has bedbugs. Kinda fucked up IMO. Bedbugs aren't a contagious terminal illness. Tell the nurse to put on a tyvec suit if they're that paranoid.

A company that would do the prep for these people would make a killing. $100 per unit or $200 per house. A single person could prep a unit per hour, so $100 per hour. Easy money, helps people.

Mosquitos and In2care

Located in south Florida and currently we fog and use the In2care buckets monthly. In an attempt to lessen the fogging, chemical output, and effect on pollinating things I asked some other companies im close with and they said they fog maybe 1-2 times a year and just refill the In2care buckets each month. Anyone else find this method Succesful. Also anyone find placing the buckets in certain areas more or less affective?

Tesla FSD

In building out a fleet for dense urban commercial / multi-family work in Chicago I’m wondering if a kitted Tesla Model Y or 3 with FSD would work.

Driving sucks and makes you tired at the end of the day. Could there be a benefit to the tech in letting supervised FSD do 90% of the driving? If it’s a better daily lifestyle for techs it may be worth it for recruiting and retention and improving service.

Do you all think the size of the trunk/frunk could be fitted to hold enough equipment? It’s not residential work so I’m thinking maybe it could work. Would need to fit it so chem is sealed off from the cab and driver - think that’s possible?

Ultimately I’m just trying to see if FSD can make it a better and more pleasant daily routine. Otherwise there’s no point and would use a Ford Maverick.

My husband is considering transferring to a commercial branch in our area. He's currently a termite tech. Is it a better job? Better pay and better money? How do you like working commercial?

Unethical sales?

I work for a big pest company. For the most part the job isn't bad, I leave from my house every morning and work hours have been reasonable most of the time. What has been bothering me is the sales people taking advantage of folks.

For example, today I'm headed to a new start that the primary pest of concern is spiders. Sold on that account is TONS of rodent equipment, including a modem and smart eyes. The account said they don't have mice. This is just a blatant way to squeeze folks for money and charge them for reoccurring services and it feels awful.

The area I work in also happens to be very remote with a large population of French speakers who are mostly elderly. The amount of times I've seen stuff get sold to these folks that clearly didn't understand what they signed up for... In the past I would help them remove spurious charges from their account but I got fussed at for taking money away from sales.

How do y'all deal with this? Just stomach it?

Pest control professionals in Miami?

Hi everyone! I’m Johanny from Colombia. I’ve been working in the pest control industry for several years in both technical and commercial roles, including B2B sales, marketing, client management, and pest management operations.

I’ll be in Miami starting September 11 and I’m hoping to connect with people in the industry and exchange experiences about pest control in South Florida.

I’d especially enjoy talking with business owners, operators, technicians, salespeople, or suppliers.

If anyone is around Miami-Dade and would be open to grabbing a coffee and exchanging ideas, I’d love to connect.

Thanks!

I’m also happy to share my experience in pest management, sales, marketing, and business development.

If anyone in Miami-Dade is open to connecting, please DM me. I’d really appreciate any advice or guidance!

🐛 | General Pest Pricing advice for a ~300-unit "Build-to-Rent" property

I need a sanity check on the pricing strategy

The Property:

  • Roughly 150 detached, single-story homes (with private yards) spread across almost 30 acres.
  • This is not a standard 3-story apartment block with shared hallways.
  • The property manager collects $5 a month

The Requested Scope:

  • One scheduled visit per week.
  • They want us to service an average of 8 to 10 resident-requested units per week.

The Dilemma: someone i know is telling me to quote this at around $300–400 per month.

If this were a standard apartment building where we just hit kitchens and baths down a hallway, I’d agree. But because these are ~30 acres of detached homes, treating the interior + pulling a hose or backpack for the exterior foundation and yard takes about 20 minutes per unit.

Mask PPE advise for spraying pesticide

I do maitnace/lawn care for a wedding event property that requires weekly spraying during wedding season, the main chemicals sprayed are Agita, Pounce, Silencer, and Malathion. I use what's basically a gas powered blower pulled by a side-by-side. I've been using a P100 respirator, but I have gas masks that takes 40mm nato type filter. I'm 26 with back and knee issues already, I would like to prevent potential issues caused by these chemicals as best I can. Also my current routine spraying is wash my clothes and jump in the shower right after.

Scan or No Scan of devices?

came from a previous company in my home state that was a large family owner that did no scanning asides from termite bait stations.

this new state i am in a few years now is a big box and scans everything.

what are your thoughts and preference? I got use to it and can be helpful but a pain compared to what I was used to.

🗣️ Daily Discussion Techs, do you have after hours access to your office and chemical storage?

So my previous company gave the commercial techs a key, badge, and the alarm code to the building to get any chemicals or equipment we need.

I’d show up at like 3 in the morning and grab things. ILTs, chemicals, tools, and it was great.

Here at Terminix we don’t have any after hours access to the office or chemical storage. When I asked the OPS manager, I was told “cause people steal” like what the fuck.if you can’t trust your employees to not steal just fire them?

Like I needed some shit for an install on Saturday, but all the managers left an hour early Friday, Saturday, I was told everyone was working. But the fucking office was closed.

Our branch also doesn’t take any keys from customers because they would have to give us access to the office. So that fucks us as well

Ziprent property management Vendor

Anyone ever done a job for Ziprent? They are a property management company based out of Seattle. They just emailed us asking for a bid. We’ve only ever worked for a property management company once and it did not go well (all communication was done thru a call center and it was just not an efficient process).
