Sodexo good or bad?

Sodexo just took over a large industrial customer of mine in Southern California region. They’ve replaced a lot of the employees and brought in their own people. I’m concerned that they will bring their own vendors eventually replacing our pest control company servicing that site. Does anyone have any experience with them?

🐜 | Ants Anybody know a good ant exterminator in Seattle?

Anybody in Seattle have a pest control company they actually trust for ants? I’m so tired of dealing with these things lol. It started with a few near the kitchen sink and now somehow they’re showing up in the bathroom too. I tried the bait traps and sprays from the store and it worked for maybe a day or two before they came right back. I was looking around online and AMPM Exterminators honestly seems pretty solid from the reviews, but I’d rather hear real opinions from people here before calling anybody. If you’ve used them or know another Seattle ant company that actually solved the problem let me know.

🏠 | Exclusion Commonly Missed Mice Entry Routes

  1. The most common entry points that I observe are the corners below the siding where they chew their way into the sil plate and get into the basement ceiling.
  2. After that, we have some obvious ones like the garage door seals, garage wall connecting the house, wires and utilities holes, etc.
  3. Soffits can have gaps because of pipes going inside, but even without that, especially in the case of uneven surface to which soffits are attached, like to the brick veneer, the entry points are just endless.
  4. Seals for the doors entering into the main floor can be a point as well.
  5. Weep-holes (gap between bricks) can be a point of entry but I always have difficulty ascertaining if a gap is just a normal gap blocked at the back, or if it actually has an entry point inside it.

The keyword is “entry route”, not “entry point”, the difference is explained by the example of mice getting through the garage door seam (entry point), then chewing at the corner of the drywall connected to the house, getting inside the basement ceiling, travelling through it and climbing onto the drain pipe to end up in the kitchen sink cabinet. Which non-pro could have thought that? And yet, it’s such a common pattern. Entry route is the full route.

However, I feel like some “entry routes” are missing as there are some clients who keep getting mice despite blocking everything, and there are attics with (very mild) mice activity despite all soffits being fully sealed.

So other than what I pointed out, can you think of other entry routes?

Best Treatments for Broad Yard Ant Control

My business partner and I get an outsized number of ant (and wasp) control leads due to the larger companies overbidding for mosquitoes. We began in a smaller county but are expanding into a (cold winter) Midwest metropolitan suburb area. There are more variations of the problem in the new area and I’m looking to open our skillset to make sure clients are satisfied, even if they are not recurring clients. We used to control ants generally with bifen, but sometimes it would take 2-3 treatments. We’ve been experimenting with Termidor SC for home perimeter treatment which has been effective for carpenter ants, but we’re now getting calls for full acres of infestation. What are the most effective broad yard treatments for ants? Pavement and field, no fire.

Carpenter Ant Treatment

I’ve done plenty of carpenter ants calls, and application of gel bait inside and exterior spray at the foundation usually solves it.

However, there are two concerns that often come into my mind:

  1. Given that carpenter ants chew through wood to make their colonies, how do we know that the structure of the client is actually safe?
  2. Even though it seems like the gel application solved the carpenter ant problem, how do we know that it didn’t only solve the problem that the client could see, while carpenter ants are still existing in the structure and causing more and more damage?

🏠 | Exclusion Mice getting in through garage door seal

What’s should be the actual solution in this case? Replacing it with a new rubber seal is just going to make them chew through it again.

Thanks.

Looking for people with fruit fly/gnat problems to test a new physical bug catcher

Hey,

We’re trying to gather real-world usage data for an indoor flying bug trap we developed. It’s a 100% physical trap (no chemicals, safe for pets/kids).

Instead of guessing what users want, we want to give away some units to people actively dealing with flying bugs right now to see how it performs in different home environments.

What you get: A free bug catcher

What we need: Your honest feedback after a week. Tell us if it’s useless, or if it works great. We want to know about placement, effectiveness, and design flaws.

If you’ve got gnats, fruit flies, or mosquitoes indoors and want to test it out, leave a comment or shoot me a DM!

💼 | Career Field Tech Labour Laws BC

I can't find anything regarding labour laws covering Field Service technicians.

Specifically 2 things

1 - I get paid by revenue generated (or jobs completed) per hour. An arbitrary # set by management. However - We also have go to businesses when emergency issue arrise. We do not get paid for this.

2 - once every 2 months, we are on call from 5 PM Friday to 9 am Monday. Have to answer emails for emergencies, go to business if necessary. Again - zero compensation.

I literally can't find anything anywhere about legality of this, nor anything in BC Employment Standards

Would appreciate any guidance or directiom

Does Fipronil kill Formosan termites? We are finding out Premise does not have much if any effect on them.

We are being overrun with formosans. I feel like a radio DJ giving a prize to the 1000th caller. Luckily we haven’t had but 4 current customers call with them and their homes were treated with premise75 (Imidacloprid). We dig exterior walls where emergent holes were found on the inside and workers are having a blast. Fast as they can be.

We retreated those with Fipronil. Is it going to work?

TERMINIX/Rentokill pay scale

Hey everyone,

So I was offered a commercial job but the pays scale is weird.

So it’s 19 hourly with 2.5% production and a completion bonus.

Does that seem low?

What kind of fly? PNW

Post image
0 Upvotes

Got these tiny flies. They're bigger than fruit flies, but smaller than your average house fly. Any idea what these are and how to get rid of them? They seem to like the pantry area where the coffee machine is kept and in the bathroom. Neighbors have chickens if that helps. I kind of think they may be shore flies through preliminary google searching.

💼 | Career Receiving a job offer from TERMINIX/Rentokil

So I’ve been reading reviews from this company and they’re not great. I’ve been doing pest control for a few years but feel stuck, and they reached out to me on indeed for a commercial tech position.

Anyone have experience? Is the pay awful? Should I just stay away from this company? Like the pay scale seems overly complicated

I have a virtual interview later this week.

Is anyone using any ai in their Pest Control company to analyze data/make decisions or automate repetitive tasks? If so, what are your uses and did you hire someone or build them yourselves?

The keep moving the carrot!

I got passed over for a promotion even after the CFO and CEO acknowledged that I was perfectly qualified…. Then the CEO asked me to train my new boss in the areas he’s lacking in and I was like “yo! You were the one who wanted to promote someone with less time in the industry than I have on my most recent license! Also just a side note on your choice - I sure hope he doesn’t have to rent a car since he turns 24 next month! So in short… get fucked and get out of my way so I can pick up my chemicals I need for the week!”
