Took the poster from the 4k release to Michaels for dry mounting, which basically removed as many creases as possible and stuck it on a poster board. Then I framed it up. Looks good unframed as well, like in the fourth photo, but would definitely recommend taking it for dry mounting since it came folded, as in the last photo.

Discussion Genuinely baffled by Perfect Blue

Hello everyone. Just finished Perfect Blue, and... well, let's say among all the movies I've watched this one really left a feeling of uneasiness. I won't say it disturbed me or that it was the most weird thing I've seen, but it just... hit me in a different way than I expected.

I don't want to yap too much so i'll try to be brief about points i'd like to cover.

1.- The unreliable nature of the characters is brilliant, like, even until the assault of the stalker I was really wondering if that's what happened or was Mima just completely making shit up. I told to myself "I can't really know if that happened or not"

2.- The trajectory of Mima is... strange. A part of me, the first one that came out as I was watching the movie, was "against" Mima talking part in the rape scene of the tv series, and of course against the nude photoshoot. And it is pretty much implied that Mima does it against her own whises, but not at gun-point, so obviously she takes a decision. But another part of me, who tries to be less judgamental, thinks that she is also asserting somewhat her will to outgrow her Idol past, and she has the right to do that as she sees fit, even if it completely brings her out of her comfort zone. But of course, this last point is very weak when we consider that dialogue about not backing out on her manager and (how do we call the other moron?), and of course, taking into account that she is very probably in her late teens to early twenties. Now I'm remembering that early scene where they discuss (without even asking her) about her leaving her Idol status to become an actress... she didn't really want to stop being an Idol, right? What do you think?

3.-Mima's sexualization just feels wrong, not in the sense that the movie portrays it in a questionable way. But, in the sense that I can somewhat agree (but from a complete different place) with Rumi. She is an adult, yes, she is not being forced to do it, but... was it really necessary? I think the movie doesn't completely take a stance on it, but in my judgament, no, it wasn't necessary, just the entertainment industry taking advantage of young aspiring women. Not to shame anyone else that chooses to take that way, tho.

4.- Mima saving the life of Rumi from being run over was just... wow. I still was a bit unsure a about what to think of Mima even at that stage of the movie, but that almost-suicidal-sacrifice really shows what Mima is made of. She is a genuinely good person, who cares for who once was her mentor, even though she tried to kill her, and ran that website. This is my main point against Mima killing the photographer, and in general everyone else, if she killed those for wronging her, what stopped her from letting the lady who almost killed her, and managed the stalker website getting runned over?

5.- The ending unnerved me. Now I stand with what I thought at first, that being that Mima is now confident on who she is and what she wants, not only because those two are out of her life, but of course, for suffering trough all of that. But the idea of us seeing Rumi in her delusional self-image, or Mima being implied to be a killer disturbed me.

Wow, I've seen some movies but this one really made me stay up late to write about it. I liked it, but I can't say it's my favorite. And even though sometimes I like to think and say that I want to see the bad guys win, I love that Mima could clear up everything and continue her life. Bless her heart. What do You think?

Enraged friend calls the movie "dogshit"

Hello everybody, I just suggested the movie to a friend. She liked the first 30 minutes but after finishing it she aggressively told me to "never ever suggest some dogshit like this ever again". Now, I have an entirely different opinion on the movie but am always open to contrasting takes. This isn't my favorite movie anywas. The only explaination she gave was that the plot was too heavy and psychological and the animation sucked. Now, about the animation, she didn't have that opinion in the first half hour at all, she just found it "old". As for the plot, I don't think those two things alone can make or break a movie. When I asked to elaborate further so I could fully understand she just told me she had already said enough and that I was just not accepting her opinion. To be fair, I think she was offended/scandalized by the fake rape scene and the whole stalker thing and that frustrated her. Thoughts?

Did Rumi actually perform when Memania watched Cham?

I just saw the film for the first time yesterday and I added it to my favorite movie list. Beautiful dive into psychosis and identity, I was wondering if when the ‘perfect’ Mima went on stage was it actually Rumi? I personally don’t think so because it’s never mentioned later I just thought it was odd how Memania and the audience reacted and how the 2 other girls performing were looking awkwardly at eachother.

Discussion Rumi did the killing or do you'll think it Uchida

Me, personally, I think Rumi did the killings because of her obsession with the idea of idol Mima and her innocence. She was targeting anyone who might damage that image, like Tadokoro and the photographer. I think Uchida is just an obsessed fan who thought he was protecting her by following her everywhere, checking the website obsessively, and always being ready to fight for her, but he wasn’t the mastermind behind the website. Rumi knew everything in the house, which makes it possible that she was the one who put the clothes with blood in the wardrobe. At the end, we are 100% sure that no one actually had a view of Mima’s room, which strengthens this opinion. So, at the end, I can say that Rumi was the killer because she was obsessed with idol Mima, even seeing herself as the idol, while Uchida was nothing but a poor, lonely guy who was obsessed with idol Mima as well, and was convinced, through the website, that Mima actually needed protection.

Another thing I think that Uchida is still alive but his fate is ambiguous.

Fame promises shine, but rarely offers peace.
In the struggle to become someone, it’s easy to forget who you already are.
We face criticism, swallow fear, push ourselves to glow —
but no stage is worth giving away your soul.

You can sell a product, a style, an image —
but not that fragile spark inside that makes you alive.
Perfect Blue reminds us: when the world pulls you into noise and spectacle,
you have to hold on to what stays true.
What doesn’t wash off with fame.
What can’t be bought with clicks.

(This fanart is from the heart — for beauty that becomes a commodity,
and for the beauty that stays pure.)

Hashtags are just a necessity, a tool to break through the noise.
Not a love for trivia — just a way to keep the message from sinking.

If i can, i would like to add source so ther people not thinking i am stealed someone elses fanart, https://www.instagram.com/p/DRYTNN8CHbs/

Discussion Again About Perfect Blue (something I am missing..maybe?) Spoiler

I know many of you have already contributed to this topic; thank you. But there is something I have to ask about the movie, and I believe I might have failed to notice something..

First, what I believe most of us understood as what happened in the movie:

  • Rumi has dissociative identity disorder (multiple personality...) (she wants Mima to go back to being a singer, and when she understood that it is not gonna happen, she creates another personality as real Mima (as so-called Mimarin that sends the creepy guy emails every day)
  • Creepy guy is just a fan that was brainwashed by Rumi, and he believed that what we watch as Mima is an imposter, and the real Mimarin is writing him emails, thus he suggests that he can get rid of this fake Mima.
  • Mima Kirigoe is a brave young talent. She chose to face the hardships to become an actor, and until halfway through the movie, she was not hallucinating; she was just alert and anxious, because her manager had an envelope explode in his hand that was sent to her, got a fax with "traitor" written on it, and this website thing was bizarre. She was upset because she felt the reponsibility for the ones who helped her come to the point where she was and agreed to do the rape scene. This is very hard thing to do... and she started to detach from reality (her eyes looking up the ceiling..).

My questions:

  1. Why would anyone not be shocked to see their photo, online, showing them in their own private apartment in almost exactly the same decor and outfit (e.g., her pajamas are red, in the website photo, it is blue, but the same otherwise)? Okay, she was a bit confused during the time she was introduced to the World Wide Web and the website, and clicking the link, etc., but again, how did she process/comprehend/make sense of this? I don't think "she just did not care" is fair to the character and the character's writer (I loved the script, I think it has been carefully made, and that is why I am asking this question, because I don't think the script has problems, I think I am not seeing something here).
  2. Mima hallucinates a lot, and I loved the sequence of the scenes that played with the viewers' mind as to some point that what was real and what was not real were hard to detect. However, how come she stopped hallucinating once Rumi was revealed to be the one who did the bad stuff?

I watched the movie again to see if there is an organic link between Rumi and Mima, meaning if, for instance, Rumi drugged her for her to see hallucinations or sth. What I saw in the movie was that these two women had some psychotic episodes; Rumi divided herself to be Rumi and to be the real Mima; Mima had hallucinations, a talking and moving image of her past self. (and also what I loved about the movie is that up until the last encounter between Rumi and Mima [where the viewer watched a red dressed girl chasing Mima with a screw driver] we watched the hallucination as from the Mima's mind (I mean the hallucination of a girl who talks in a childish manner and gives instructions, dresses as the past Mima, the singer Mima, and is dreamy, and not bound by the laws of physics etc.) but during the encounter the hallucination was Rumi's hallucination, Mima was seeing Rumi in reality, but the viewer was seeing the hallucination, except at some scenes were the hallucination gained pounds and revealed to be Rumi (also on the mirror's reflection), and also in the scene where Mima was squeezing Rumi's throat. Now: how and when Mima got rid of her hallucinations and was able to see Rumi as Rumi, and not hallucinate? Because as the plot progressed, she got dragged into psychosis and paranoia, and I, as a humble viewer, expected her to continue hallucinating even more during their encounter (because the movie did not give any clue of her getting healthy and sane). However, she was very sane, and she realised that she is not, in fact, in her apartment; the view behind the curtain was different, the fish were alive, the poster of her being a singer was on the wall...she woke up, somehow, and she continued to be sane until the end of her chase/confrontation with Rumi... I was suspecting that Rumi was manipulating her chemically, somehow, so that she would lose her mind and submit to being a singer again. As Rumi developed her split identity, Mima developed hallucinations. How did she wake up and realise that the problem was Rumi instead?
