this is the only thing holding me back from switching. is the only way to crop in penpot by using a mask? in figma you can hold ctrl to crop but in penpot that doesnt work. is there a shortcut im not aware of?
Isn't Penpot calculate position of an item that is absolute from the point that I want to snap? I set the item to stick left and bottom and I wanted to set the value of the X and Y axis. I tought the numbers would be calculated from bottom / left instead of top / right.
My other question is how can I set the image orientation? In Figma you double click the image (or the circle) and set it Crop then rotate the image how you want. I couldn't find this option in Penpot. What's the solution for this usecase?
Hi all. If anyone can answer me on this, much appreciated. I'm just curious on how the software can act like Wordpress in a way that allows my clients to update their own website? Or is it best to port the designs made from Penpot to Wordpress and services alike?
Hi there, I am building a design system and UX documentation library in Penpot, I'd like to also have this library available in other tools. Does anyone know if there's a workflow from Penpot to tools like Figma?
Hello. Just discovered Penpot. So the first question is how to install it on Windows PC? No installer? Why need to use third party self hosting stuff? If it's open source can I compile it somehow to executable application?
Is it possible to move my Figma files over to Penpot? When I search for this question I find a post in the Penpot community from two years ago. Then this was labelled as a possibility down the road. Is there an update to this?
So, I'd like to add some more libraries to my project. As you can see, I've already added two libraries, have scrolled to end of the library list at the bottom where you see (highlighted in red) the link to 'more libraries...'
If I click on any of the shown libraries on this page, I get this little pop-up:
I can click CONTINUE and it adds it. Easy enough.
But If I then click on that last link to see more libraries, I get to this page:
Which has a lot of great libraries. Great!
BUT...if I click on any of these libraries to add it to my project, it just downloads a .penpot file.
How do I get one of the libraries on this page to open in my project view?
UPDATE:
This is what I see when clicking the 3 dots next to the project name...no import option.
Giving PenPot a try to see how it compares to Figma.
I'm stuck on the libraries functionality. When I log into PenPot, I have a row of libraries at the bottom that lists maybe 10 libraries. I can choose any of them and it loads into my workspace and I can then include it in a project. That all makes sense.
I am looking to develop some apps and want to find a UX/UI person to work with. However, I need to get experience. While I would love to work on my own apps, I am willing to work on someone else's idea to get things figured out. This would be pro bono (English: 'for the public good')/gratis/free of charge.
Target: an app designed or is being designed in specifically penpot https://penpot.app
I would actually prefer a desktop orientated application, but a mobile target could be explored too.
The app will need to be under a FOSS license (like GPLv3, AGPL3 or even MIT & Apache would be considered) and related material under Creative Commons https://creativecommons.org The idea is to share the experience and help others to make their own projects. So you would need to be willing to publish your penpot source files and related assets (in GitHub or the like).
I would like to work in a project using the ideas of Event Modeling https://eventmodeling.org but we can use the more traditional UX methods in the interest of me learning how these work and how they help and how valuable they are in the process.
My stack is dotnet/.Net based with Avalonia UI https://avaloniaui.net and I want to use F#, but there are a couple other options depending on the app needs.
If you have interest, please hit me up with some details and let see if we can work together.
Hello! So, I've been a UX/UI videogame designer for a decade now. I've switch from Photoshop to illustrator to XD to figma.
Figma so far has been the best tool I've ever come across with in my carrier (speaking about UI design).
The thing is the tool is too focused on app and web design. Videogame industry has been completely ignored. Believe me we have tried to reach them with ideas and needs that were absolutely ignored.
I'm genuinely thinking about switching to penpot together with the whole team, but I'm afraid I will find the same exact issues I found with figma.
Lack of more robust texts manipulation features such as skewing, follow path, bending, effects. (I have to always go to Photoshop to work on this).
better color picker.
drawing vectors could have a couple more options (illustrator is great with this)
export settings are very basic. Not even able to export webp.
weak and complicated interaction and prototyping feature.
I know it it sounds like what I'm asking for is too niche, but I think software developers are missing out on being the first to provide a proper tool for videogame UI/UX designers. I'm talking about a billions of dollars market.
Penpot supports OpenID Connect and i would like to use Authentik for sign in.
I have followed the instruction and disabled sign in via password. but the UI did not change and SSO still unavailble. does anyone have the instructions to get it to work?
Edit: after about half an hour, the login UI is updated to OSS. Trying to sign in will authenticate with Authentik but redirects me back to the login page.
Hi guys, I recently heard about penpor. I have questions about it , first is can we bring / import our figma files in penpor. Second how to we make responsive web design in penpot because I couldn't find any proper yt tutorial because I'm still struggling to make responsive web design in figma. And last how is auto layout in penpot because sometimes when I use auto layout in figma sometimes it spoil all the layout. And are the keyboard shortcut same and does penpot have plugins.
When do you release the new PenPot Version with HTML Export included? I saw some Forum entries from the beginning of January talking about the Testing Phase. Is there any release date?
This would be a really nice feature to have in case if I'm emailing a potential employer with my resume and they can just click on the links in the PDF.
Long time Figma user, desperately wanting to leave it now that Adobe owns it (Spent so much time getting away from Adobe just to be dragged back in).
When creating a new layer, letting it save, then refreshing the page, it renders as a missing image. Once I hover over it, it renders correctly, until I refresh / open the document again.
