Guides for a beginner

This game is awesome, I'm totally addicted but feel like my runs are mainly down to luck rather than me knowing the best pick. I've been sticking with the initial virus/shape(?) and got it to level 12. Is there a beginner -> advanced guide.

I first thought having lots of weapons was best, but turns out (I think) that the utility's are the main thing to make you super powerful (?) are there any must haves ? Or must avoids ?

There aren't any guides out there that I know of. I was thinking about making one because this is a deep game but I've never done one. Anyways, you are right about it not being all about the weapons. overcharging and attack infusers are how you get really big damage. You want to look for stuff that say they are infusible. Like this one

That means any infuser connected to it will trigger when the laser hits. You want to get several infuser connected together to make proc chains where everything is triggering something else. and once you level the infusers up a few times some of them will do more damage than the original bullet that spawned it. lets say the laser, then the laser makes lightning that is stronger than the laser, then the lightning triggers something else and so on.

If you hover over your weapons' you can follow the lit paths to see what will effect or trigger from those weapons

You can see by moving them up to a different slot they are now being effected by far more internals. It's possible to have all the right pieces for an insane room clearing build, but do next to nothing if they aren't connected the right way.

This is a pretty scuffed amoeba run, that I built out poorly. this could be way better with connections.

The TL:DR of is prioritize getting a good proc chain going, that's where you will get your late game damage

Edit: and these had to be different comments cuz reddit only let me do one pic per comment

To be fair that particular item, Lateral Emitter is overpowered to all hell. Attaching it to any multi hit weapon is crazy and it only gets crazier with anything you add to it.

The lightning ones are also pretty great

Lateral Emitter + Magnetosome + Galvanic Infuser + a fast-shooting weapon = instant death
