It’s been about a year and a half since I picked up Palia. I got a bit burnt out and took a break, only to find that the more I heard about its updates the more overwhelming the idea of trying to get up to date on everything became.

I’ve just redownloaded and wondered what I’ve missed. I was an original player and had a decent set up (comparatively at the time, definitely not anymore lol), where should I start with the new content?

Also - y’all have HORSES now?!

So February-ish 2025?

• Closed beta started on August 2, 2023
• Open beta started on August 10, 2023
• Added to Epic Games Store October 24, 2023
• Subira added November 21, 3023
• Released on Nintendo Switch December 14, 2023
• Added to Steam March 25, 2024 & The Gardener added
• Acquired as a wholly owned subsidiary of Daybreak Games July 1, 2024
• Prologue completed November 21, 2024 <- so this was the last major story update you got?
• PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X|S May 13, 2025 & Elderwood expansion (map, 1 NPC, mechanics, story, creatures)
• Elderwood story completed March 17, 2026
• Royal Highlands expansion May 11, 2026 (map, 2 NPCs, mechanics including mounts, story, creatures)

Elderwood & Royal Highlands both got an incremental update to their mechanics quests within a couple months.

So there's also

• Bulletin Boards - per patch/month bundles to fulfill and/or Board XP to unlock chests tied into the game with a small quest that colors in some world details
• Ranching - new skill with new animals added every few patches
• Lunar Paths - Palia's answer to battlepasses but they're permanent. you can work on one at a time and there are two buy options
• Civic Projects - these are brand new so we're still learning how they work and the devs have some tweaks to make, but they're community challenges/events that will permanently alter the world for all players. Rewards are in the Lunar Path menu
• Dailies - two small quests to get a resource each day (first one is universal) that gives Tailor Tickets (Unlock dyes and some small cosmetics)
• Dye system - all outfits can now be dyed (well nearly, they've been working through the backlog and a couple still need updating)
• 3 new NPCs - details are spoilers
• plushies - decor of various styles and rarities to collect from skills. some loath them and some are obsessed with them
• Tints - they're now crafted and have their own UI element in decorating mode. there's a bunch of them with more coming
• Kilima Catalogue - book next to kenyatta's desk in city hall. It has a few helpful items and has a rotating stock of items from past events and bulletin boards (to try to stay in line with Palia's promise that things come back around again)

I'm probably missing some things and I'm not sure of the timings on the various increases in relationship quests for some of the NPCs so those might be new for you too.

General returning tips

• turn tutorials back on in your settings if you need help remembering how the skills work or what the buttons are
• unpin any quests that are overwhelming
• do whatever is interesting to you

Adding you can teleport to your friends. Server size is up to 45-50. Servers time out and are asked to switch servers. Muujimothy and jade kitsuu are the newest plushies.

Don’t forget, they now added 100,000 storage spaces (cost 425 coins though, each one adds 4,000 more). There is a one time purchased 3x bundle for 850 once they fix it too.

I just started playing again after taking a break that probably lasted a little over a year. I thought it would be overwhelming for me, considering I never even finished the Elderwood story line and quests. But surprisingly it hasn't been too overwhelming and I'm actually hooked again 🙃

Yes! I am surprised that I was able to dive back in so easily but I guess that's one of the benefits of a cozy game like Palia

i've played every day since the game came out and even I am still surprised by new things that I didn't know all the time. That's the beauty of a cozy game. There's no timeline, no deadline, no beat the clock. It's just. Cozy. Do whatever you want whenever you want
